RE: Tommie Crowd

Look, it is really inconsequential here.  I stated it was a pathetic crowd for homecoming at UST.  A quick check of the box score says 3250 were in attendance.  This is almost exactly the 2/3 full that I proclaimed (UST Stadium has a 5K capacity).  Do the math.  Caruso may have started to change the "mindset" at UST, but he can't force people to come to the games.

And I suspect they never will.

Not to defend the Tommies and more to just remind everyone how special the MIAC is in D3 football, but 3250 is still a pretty good crowd for d3 nationally.  The MIAC led all conferences last year with 3956 fans per game.  Second was the American Southwest Conference with 2615.  This year, SJU, Concordia, Bethel and NCC are all in the top 20 (though I would guess NCC's numbers are inflated as they can't count good up on the hill).

Hell, even Carleton averaged 3100 last year, and that was with a reported crowd of 438 against Macalester.

Not to continue this rather silly, mundane topic any further (even though I kind of started it)....how does Carleton get their attendance figures without selling tickets?  Also...it's my guess that SJU helps most of the schools keep up their attendance average since their fans travel so well.

I'm not really sure how they keep the numbers.  My guess is it wouldn't be that hard to get a rough estimation.  And while they did have over 6k at the SJU game last year, and that was a conference championship game, Carleton did get over 6k at the Auggie Tech game as well.

If Johnnie fans travel so well, why was there twice as many people at the Tommie game?  3250 in weather like that is an improvement for the Tommies.  It wasn't where it should or could be, but it's a step in the right direction.

If those pictures are not representative, then show us the better one.  I suspect if there was a better one, then you would have already linked to it rather than appeal to Concordia players to save the argument for you.  If you haven't looked yet then I'm surprised.  After all, it's not like you just creaked into here to say something two weeks before the Johnnie game, unlike to those fair-weather basketball fans, eh?

You're right I looked and couldn't find one, but lack of evidence doesn't mean there is isn't any evidence. And it's actually less than one week before the TOMMIE game, and if you actually did any sort of research you'd see I've actually posted before. Just hard for you to notice between all your bad jokes and Johnnie teat suckling.

I've read AO's question three times and I still can't figure out what he is asking.  The first clause of the first sentence seems to start a slam on SJU, but the second clause makes no sense in that context.  The second sentence seems to suggest that the Johnnies do travel well.

Maybe he means twice as many people at the Johnnie game last year (7,700) at UST(d) than last week against CON?  That again is an uncharacteristic complement of SJU, but then maybe the weather comment is a hedge against a compliment.

My head is spinning.  Perhaps AO is still a little punch-drunk from the weekend's battle with and ultimate defeat by Martin Luther.

Oh, wow, Pat.  So the Tommies managed to fill their stadium 2/3 full at their homecoming this year instead of less than half full last year?  BFD.  If you know anything about UST, and maybe you do, you know they would die to have the alumni and fan support that SJU does.   But it doesn't grow on trees, and you don't buy it, either (though the Tommies have been relentlessly trying the latter).  There is a there there at Saint John's; and with all their money and championships, the Tommies don't have it.

How is it possible that a Johnnie from California has an inferiority complex with a school that hasn't won a conference title in, what, 10 years? 20 years? 30 years?
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

You're right.  Just because we haven't seen a coherent argument out of UST doesn't mean that one hasn't been made.  Somewhere.  At some point.

...

Two blokes were walking through a cemetery when they happened upon a tombstone that read: "Here lies John Sweeney, a good man and a Tommie fan."

So, one of them asked the other: "When the hell did they start putting two people in one grave?"

Jeff, Steve and Jim are all Tommie supporters working on the same building site, when a big steel beam fell down and killed Jeff.  Steve and Jim flipped a coin, and Steve went off to tell Jeff's wife.  Two hours later, Steve came back with a case of Milwaukee's Best under his arm. "Hey, where did you get that" Jim said, "You were supposed to be telling Jeff's missus her husband's dead."

"Jeff's missus gave this to me," Steve said. "I knocked on the door and when this chick answered I said, 'Are you Jeff's widow?' 'Bugger off - I'm not a widow,' she said and I said, 'I bet you a case of grog you ARE!!'"

A rich Tommie supporter wants to commemorate his well-loved dog, who has just died, by making a gold statue of it, so he pops off to his local jeweler.

He says to the jeweler, "Can you make me a gold statue of my dog?"

The jeweler replies, "Certainly, sir. Would you like it 18 carat?"

To which the Tommie supporter says, "No, mate, I want it chewing a bone."

Wonka,

WTF- inferiority complex?  he is simply replying to Pat's facts with other facts 1.)UST is jealous of Johnnie alumni & fan support 2.)Even though Tommies don't understand there just are certain things money can't buy 3.) Not written, but implied, Tommies Suck
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
