News from the Northern Territory where the women are tough and the men run scared...

"No oral sex, says ute crash waitress "

A WOMAN accused of performing a sexual act on a man when he crashed in Darwin's rural area is outraged at the allegation and says it is "absolutely wrong"...

"I was not sucking his d*** - and it's pretty obvious that wasn't the case ... you only have to look at the mark on my chest," she said.

"Clearly I had my seatbelt on, so it's impossible that I'd be leaning over sucking his d*** unless he is hung like a donkey or I've got a f****** rubber neck.

The story only goes down (chuckle, chuckle) from there.

RE: Tommie Crowd

Look, it is really inconsequential here.  I stated it was a pathetic crowd for homecoming at UST.  A quick check of the box score says 3250 were in attendance.  This is almost exactly the 2/3 full that I proclaimed (UST Stadium has a 5K capacity).  Do the math.  Caruso may have started to change the "mindset" at UST, but he can't force people to come to the games.

Not to defend the Tommies and more to just remind everyone how special the MIAC is in D3 football, but 3250 is still a pretty good crowd for d3 nationally.  The MIAC led all conferences last year with 3956 fans per game.  Second was the American Southwest Conference with 2615.  This year, SJU, Concordia, Bethel and NCC are all in the top 20 (though I would guess NCC's numbers are inflated as they can't count good up on the hill).

Hell, even Carleton averaged 3100 last year, and that was with a reported crowd of 438 against Macalester.

Not to continue this rather silly, mundane topic any further (even though I kind of started it)....how does Carleton get their attendance figures without selling tickets?  Also...it's my guess that SJU helps most of the schools keep up their attendance average since their fans travel so well.
If Johnnie fans travel so well, why was there twice as many people at the Tommie game?  3250 in weather like that is an improvement for the Tommies.  It wasn't where it should or could be, but it's a step in the right direction.

I've read AO's question three times and I still can't figure out what he is asking.  The first clause of the first sentence seems to start a slam on SJU, but the second clause makes no sense in that context.  The second sentence seems to suggest that the Johnnies do travel well.

Maybe he means twice as many people at the Johnnie game last year (7,700) at UST(d) than last week against CON?  That again is an uncharacteristic complement of SJU, but then maybe the weather comment is a hedge against a compliment.

My head is spinning.  Perhaps AO is still a little punch-drunk from the weekend's battle with and ultimate defeat by Martin Luther.
Attendance for the Johnnie game last saturday: 1748, Attendance for the Tommie game: 3250.   The Johnnie fans do travel well, but not so well that they're playing in the most highly attended game every week.

Of the 3250, how many were cobber fans?  1000+?

Do the math. Last year's Homecoming game had 2300 in attendance.

http://athletics.bethel.edu/custompages/football/2008/stats/ust-fb.htm

Math: 41% increase year over year.

Oh, wow, Pat.  So the Tommies managed to fill their stadium 2/3 full at their homecoming this year instead of less than half full last year?  BFD.  If you know anything about UST, and maybe you do, you know they would die to have the alumni and fan support that SJU does.   But it doesn't grow on trees, and you don't buy it, either (though the Tommies have been relentlessly trying the latter).  There is a there there at Saint John's; and with all their money and championships, the Tommies don't have it.

Deep breath, tmerton. All I was saying was that things might be improving, and since we were challenged to do the math, I did it.

Cobbernation: No idea and no idea how many Bethel fans at last year's UST homecoming either.

Yeah, there's also 5 teams with higher SOS than Mount Union, but I doubt those teams can beat MUC  :D

The way I look at it, they've both beat the Cobbers, Pipers, and Gustavus, so throw those out the window.  In MIAC play, SJU's beaten Bethel and UST's beaten St. Olaf.  Bethel's a tougher team, hand's down.  In non-conference play, SJU's beat UW-River Falls and UW-Eau Claire.  The Tommies have beaten Macalester.  I don't think that anyone thinks that Mac could beat either of those UW schools.

The SOS calculation isn't perfect.  I think SJU's played a tougher schedule.

I agree with SOS calculation not being perfect.  I was only curious to see the reaction by both teams' fans.

Don't underestimate Northfield Community College, they have the chance to throw a wrench into things when they play SJU.  Bethel only beat them by 8.  Bethel is the better team, but NCC will have a shot at SJU.

The Oles scare me every year.  It's never a given--some years it's a Johnnie blowout, other years, it is too close for comfort.  Gotta get past the Tom Toms before it even matter, though.
