Interesting game for Bethel today. Aakre was out, may be done for a while. Hopefully bye week is enough, but we'll see.

As a result, they went to the Wildcat a decent amount today. Put Flannery at QB and freshman Lindh at RB. They both ended up with over 100 yds rushing. Bethel also turned it over deep in there own territory a couple of times setting up Hamline scores.

Final score: BU 20 - Hamline 17 on a last second field goal.

I think we'd have to have Aakre back to have any chance at winning out, although graff put up ok numbers today.

I'll admit, I was way off on my USTd 31, SJU 14 prediction.  Why didn't anyone tell me that Morse was so bad?!?!?  On any pass longer than about 10 yards, he simply threw it to a random location at a random height and velocity.  Would it go to a Tommie?  Would it go to a Johnnie?  Would you even be able to tell who the intended receiver was?!?!?  WHO KNOWS!!!

UST will be playing "Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues" to console themselves when this one is over:

Well, TC, you're supposed to tell us these things ;)

I guess this means that since the Johnnies beat such a juggernaut, they should move way up in the rankings. My guess is that St Thomas could remain in place, since at last count, only one  team rated ahead of them lost. I think that could change. Johnnies should move up at least one spot.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Wow, did I underestimate SJU's defense. After seeing UST push StO around, and BU move the ball fairly well v. SJU, I felt UST would be able to move freely. Boy, was that wrong. I'll have to bring some crow to a Striffy fest for JJR to grill for me.

But I was impressed at how UST battled back. After Stantion's INT in Q3, I was ready to concede, and in the past UST would have fallen apart. Fighting back like they did, clawing their way to an OT shows a healthy change in attitude from the Roney era. Comments about choking can be retired.

The stats show a deadeven game-- 245-239 in total offense, 15-13 in 1st downs.

Awesome crowd, atmosphere & even the weather was perfect.

An 11/28 rematch would be sweet. Both teams have business to take care of between then & now.

Hopefully, Jeffrey Hilliard is OK....that was a scary scene.

T-shirt of the day was the one with "Thank God for St Ben's" and an ornate cross on the front and a clever back that would not amuse Bennie  :)

What was the punchline to those "Thank God for..." shirts?  I never saw the back of one.  PM me if needed.

Wasn't too impressed by the shirts this year.  The Tommies' shirts I saw were crass without being creative (the train and evolution shirts), the Johnnies' shirts I saw (Red + Blue = Purple) would have been a smashing success at a parochial middle school.  I'm sure I missed some good ones.  What were they?

Some quick thoughts on the game today:

1. The reffing was atrocious. Waldvogel's block was NOT a clip late in the first half...and then he was blatantly tackled while running a route on the very next play. Caruso had every right to be upset. I can't say for certain that it cost the Tommies points — Morse was still on the field — but that sequence inside the 20 certainly didn't help the cause.

And what was that gong show of a finish? Signal the GD touchdown before you sprint off the field, stripes! As oAs said afterward, be emphatic with that call and make sure everyone sees it.

2. Morse is atrocious, or at least was today. Even the best running attack will struggle if the defense doesn't have to worry about the passing game.

3. Hey Ryan Coleman, was your life REALLY in danger from the excited fans whose toes were an inch over the white line during overtime? You sounded like you were on a soap opera. I was embarrassed for you after that tirade.

4. My favorite shirt was one that snuck into the game under some overalls. It said "Tommie Girls" on the front and then "You can't spell sl*t without UST." I used a star to censor it, but even Oz should be able to figure that one out. Very offensive. Very creative. Very funny.

5. It was fun seeing ROR get blasted on the sidelines. I hope everyone got to enjoy that as much as I did from two feet away. But he still introduced me to his daughter after the game...as her stalker. I couldn't tell if she was more weirded out than I was, but it was certainly an awkward moment for us all. Thanks for that  >:(

Sorry, two more things to add.

1. That INT by the Johnnies (#13?) in the third quarter was ridiculous.

2. Ryan Hoag's second game in the United Football League is about to start on HDNet! He made a big impact in the opener according to the box score, which listed him under "player participation."

1.  Beautiful day in Collegeville.

2.  Agreed....the officiating was horrendous.  Those clowns didn't seem to have a flag in their pocket the first half.  I've got a picture an obvious holding and another of an obvious block in the back.  And yes...Waldvogel was friggin' mugged @ the end of the 1st half.

3.  I think Boyle's thumb is more messed up than anyone thought.  That would explain the Jays lack of a passing game.

4.  It's funny that even though he is a right handed quarterback Morse cannot make the pass to right side of the field.  On the 1st quarter interception the SJU CB Powell fell down and still picked it off because the pass was so bad.

5.  I keep thinking of the quote by Gags earlier this season about keeping the game close and the Tommies will find a way to screw it up.  Maybe he should substitute Tommies with Jimmy (what the hell was with that screen in the 4th quarter)?  The QB draw was a good call but the screen sucked.

6.  I heard that the bad snap on the punt was a result of some mis-communication.  Evidently the Johnnines were going to fake it w/ a short snap to up back however he audibled out of it and the long snapper didn't hear it?  Can anybody confirm this?

6.  What happend to ROR on the sidelines?

Whoa, whoa, whoa...  We don't need anyone getting a big head around here.

Back safe in GF watching the Sioux/Gopher game on TV.

Great to get up there and see all you guys again. Hopefully we both win out and who knows? Rematch? Not if UWW has anything to say about it I'm guessing.

SJU's line play on both sides was exceptional today...was quite impressed. Greg Morse was all over the place. I hate SJU. Peace.

Johnnie/Tommie Game winning touchdown signal.

Contrary to popular belief the official did signal the touchdown immediately.
I apologize for the blurriness of the pics.

Hey, all.  Back up in the Rapids.

What a great game.  The sun always smiles on Johnnies, you could say.

A very sincere thank you to all for the hospitality.  You made the trip back very enjoyable.  I would like to particularly thank fins for the great seat.  And with a perfect unobstructed view to the OT TD.  Who could ask for more with a straight face?

As for T-shirts: my favorite was spotted walking back to the car.  We were following a Bennie with:

"Tommie Football

Going down on the field

and each other

since 1885"

CC to VOJ:  I tried to get upstairs twice to say hello but couldn't get it done.  Larry the Cable Guy would not be impressed.
