Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Stiftungsfestivities yesterday and for all the culinary delight donations. That had to be the largest turnout ever for the tailgate party. Enjoyed meeting the two Vikings cheerleaders.

Anyone else still on campus around 4:45 p.m. when the power went off throughout the entire campus? That was strange. Evidently it started in St. Joe.

JJR,

We went to Mass thinking we would miss traffic..... WRONG!

We still sat in traffic about 40 minutes to leave campus.

bench - Does UND recruit a$$h0les to play hockey there, or does their D!@k of a coach turn them into a$$h0!es? It showed when they started a fight last year when going through the handshake line. Now, it seems as though they don't know the meaning of a whistle, or don't know that slashing an opposing player with your stick on the back of the leg, after the whistle isn't hockey.

I like good, tough, hard-nosed hockey, but when they cross the line like that, it's just called dirty play.

No...it's just Sioux/Gopher hockey. What FSN and Doug Woog won't show or talk about is Wheeler checking 5'6" Ryan Duncan from behind. Finley is a goon and tried yanking him out of the handshake line but I doubt there was any sincerity to it. Lucia and the Goofers face wash, punch, push, spear, slash with the best of them. It's just WCHA hockey. It's always that way whether it's Mankato, Denver, St. Cloud, etc. UND is no different than anybody else in that regard.

Did anyone else notice the UST players in the matching black team gear?  I thought there was either an MIAC or NCAA rule regarding the number of players that can "travel" with the team.  Does that rule just regulate the number of players that can dress on the road?  Does anybody know if the Tommies take this many guys on the road w/ them every week?

The guys in the black travel seperately but are allowed to stand on the sidelines. They just didn't make the travel squad...I had a few weekends like that back in my day too. Lol

I noticed that too.  There were a lot of them.  Very nice warm up suits they were sporting.  I wonder why John doesn't issue them to all our guys.  They are normally in jeans and t-shirts. 8)

I suspect that is somewhere in the list of no's
*No Warm up suits
*No goofy huddle at the mid-field gyrating and chanting pre-game
*No pants hanging low exposing boxer shorts
*No "bling"

Was able to make a last minute visit to see the game yesterday.  I was definitely off on my prediction on the game, but way on about the Tommie QB, he is just not good.  UST's D played well I thought.  14 points should be enough to win.  Talked to one of the UST coaches after the game, and his reaction was exactly what I thought it would be, the defense played good but the offense constantly put them in bad situations.

I was not impressed by Wartman after watching him play.  He's a good RB, but not a great one.  I've definitely watched 2 RBs (Clark and Flannery) this year that are much better.

I was impressed by SJU.  I think they are a playoff caliber team.  Wimmer and the defense played very well and handled a good UST O-line.  If SJU doesn't crap their pants in the 4th quarter, that game isn't close.

Caruso made 2 great play calls in that game though.  UST's first TD was an awesome play that was beautiful to watch, and if anyone noticed, their TD to tie was the same play the ran against Carleton to win last year.  Both plays were executed perfectly, though it was really the only time their offense did anything good the entire day.

Do have to mention that the storming the field at the end was pretty lame.  There are certain times when that's warranted, this was not one of them.

Pat, PRF, How dumb do you think I am? I knew exactly who he was talking about, I just wanted to jab him for not knowing WHAT, he's talking about.

bench. If someone crosschecks you, and you give them a shot, or a facewash back, it's known as standing up for yourself. The thing I see with UND is illegal, dirty stuff AFTER the whistle. Who does what first is important here. I watch a lot of the WCHA, and see tough stuff in most games, but most of it is before the whistle blows, except for UND. Should I believe you, or my lyin' eyes?

I suspect that if St. Thomas ever moved to D-I FCS, those 64 football scholarships would help level the playing field a bit.

Pat,

Are you referring to the ones they already have  8) or do you think FCS would allow them an additional 64?

Your brother's comments on the Star Tribune website about last season's game (video and still photographic evidence  :o :o :o ) has me wondering when Oliver Stone will be brought in to direct "Robbery on Snelling Ave...a D3football production"

When the journalist becomes part of the story, they have failed.

Hey Veek, I'm pretty sure the WBHR website has the game audio archived if you need to track down a recording of the end of Saturday's game--I saw you slip out a little early.  I know, I know...  When the craft fair comes to town, sometimes a guy's got to make sacrifices.

TC - funny stuff.  Someday you may have a two year old son who is celebrating his second birthday like mine was yesterday.  While I would never leave a close game early without good reason if I would have stayed until the end it would have been disastrous.  My parents who were at the game didn't arrive to my house until after 6 p.m. which was 1 3/4 hours later than me and I left at the end of regulation.

I'm going to save a copy of your post for my son so in 10 years he has a good reason when he kicks your ass at a Stiftungsfest.

My sources inform me that the Baltimore Ravens are at this moment attempting to sign SJU placekicker Russell Gliadon to contract for the remainder of the season.  They have sent a car to drive him to the airport so that he can make the flight back Baltimore with the team this evening.

I'm assuming that they aren't looking at him as a punter as well.

What a great game today.

Looks like TC, TDT, and Maniac will have some crow to eat at our next tailgate.  I'll bet my last dollar that TDT won't consume his portion, though.  He'll probably just hide it in a pocket of his nice girly winter coat.  And whatever you do, please do not ask him about his NICE winter coat or you will get a 15 minute story about he searched for a deal forever and then scored a girly version at an 80 % discount.  Who cares!!

Nice seeing OAS, his bride to be, Wonka, ROR, ROR Jr, and being able to meet Oz today, albeit briefly.

I think that today may have been the largest Stiftungsfest we have ever had.  I'm looking forward to next week.

GO JOHNNIES!!!

What is with TDT and his winter wardrobe.... must be time for him to fly south with the rest of the snow birds.

My small pack of born and bread Minnesotans had no problem battling the pure sunshine and 45 degree weather with just a mere hoodie.

I hope TDT is around to see the end of the season.

Actually, I heard that call went to UW-W's new D-3 record holder for career kicking points, Jeff Schebler.  The Vikings should be giving the game ball to the Raven's kicker in the locker room right about now.   ;)
