You want a legit reason to be a hater about students running onto the field?  Then consider that UST beat the spread in the pick 'ems because no extra point was kicked following the OT TD.  Probably wouldn't have kicked it anyway, but that's irrelevant when you're just looking for reasons to hate the Johnnies.

I have no problem with the fans rushing the field as long as they stay away from opposing players. It was an exciting game and an overtime win. As long as you're respectful to the other guys who played their hearts out and came up a little short.

I ran into a UST assistant at the movie theatre tonight and he said Hilliard was doing ok.  It was a concussion and apparently he has had several so there was extra concern.

oAs;  You're always running into people.... nice to meet the new Mrs. oAs on Saturday.

Has anyone else noticed that there is only one 7 - 0 team in D III?

Monmouth, Central and Hampden-Sydney are also 7-0.

Either my aged eyes are getting worse, or the Top 25 has changed since I looked last night. Probably the former.

In an OT game, they dont kick the PAT when the TD has already decided the game.

I dont have an issue with fans running onto the field in celebration, particularly in a huge game such as Saturday's or the infamous Bethel first win at Collegeville. As Bench and others point out, there are limits/boundaries that need to be observed but within those limits, I think its a great show of support.

Can SJU & UST avoid hangovers this weekend against the Northfield boys?  Most likely, but dont be surprised if either or both of the games end up a lot closer than they should.

Nov 7 now looms huge for UST and Bethel- the Royals MUST win out to have a prayer at a Pool C berth, and the Tommies cannot lose either to keep their hopes alive. I think a 9-1 UST is a lock for a Pool C, but at 8-2, BU needs a convincing win over UST.

Sag Sam- good to see you again Sat, and I've made the correction

Bench- great to meet you

JR, Dusty, Veek, TDT, Fins, ROR and others- good to see everyone again. Heck it was even nice hearing VOJ's voice postgame
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Looks like SJU is now ranked 5th in the new top25 poll.  Johnnies will be pulling for #13 North Central to beat #3 Wheaton this Saturday to possibly get a 1 seed in the playoffs.  Of course SJU has to worry about their own games first and foremost!

cobbernation

The cobbers had a tough day on saturday.  However, there is hope for qb when dunham (soph) came in the 4th quarter to throw for 244 yds, 2 TD's to force an overtime when we were down 17 with 8 mins remaining in the game!  Larson is arogant and I don't see him playing for the rest of the year at qb at least.  He is out there to pad his stats and try to take all the credit for victories.  Definately not a team player in my eyes.  This was the first time we have lost to auggie tech in 10 years and homecoming was a disappointment!  I don't see how a qb can be benched in 2 consecutive games and still start the following week.  I think this week the decision should be easy for horan to start dunham, if not my contributions to the college will cease!

By rule there is no PAT kicked in OT when the game is already won. Rushing the field had nothing to do with it.

Do have to mention that the storming the field at the end was pretty lame.  There are certain times when that's warranted, this was not one of them.

I can only remember 3, maybe 4 games in my 20 years of watching games in Collegeville when the students stormed the field.  One was after the Simpson playoff game in the late nineties.  Truth is a full scale brawl practically broke out between the two teams at the end of the game.  Luckily the student section was nowhere near the size as yesterday.  It could have been ugly.
The other was 409...not much reason to explain that one.
The other two were Bethel and St. Thomas this year.
In defense of the students....they have shown more exuberance and passion than I ever witnessed in the late 80's.  The Bethel and St. Thomas games were big.  Bethel had beat us 3 years straight and it looked like it would be 4.  After watching the Vikings game today a 49 yard last minute field goal is even hard for pros.  Yesterday's game had 13,000 fans and a Tommie team that was trying to prove that they were ready to take control of the MIAC.  It's what rivalries are about  They didn't tear down the goal post or trash anything that I know of.
I can almost guarantee that if BU and St. Thomas win those games their students would have stormed the SJU field.

Storm the field?  Big deal.  Close games, major rivalries.  If they storm the field after STO then you've got a complaint, until then you just have one more reason to hate the Johnnies:  not only do they win but their fans are happy they win.  And care.  If you didn't tie the shoe-laces of the chess club members, then CC's fans could storm after a win as well.

Wow, I'm surprised no one agreed with me about storming the field.  This is something I think happens too often in sports.  I wasn't putting down the Johnnie fans or students, and said nothing about Carleton, so I'm not sure why I took a shot for that.  I get it, you think Carleton fans are all nerds that don't care about sports.  They're not, get over it, we just study a lot and still compete with you on the field/court/playing field

I just think that storming the field is something that should occur after an absolutely amazing win.  As this article suggests:  http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=caple/090921&sportCat=ncf  a win over a #1 ranked team or for a conference championship would probably qualify.  But a regular season win over a team you haven't lost to at home in over a decade?  That's ranked what, 10 spots worse than you?  I would argue the same thing for the Bethel game.  The fact that there are only 2 other times you can remember other than this year should point to storming the field being held for a special win.

The fans get to be on the field after the game, why not wait until then to celebrate with your team?

This was a great win, but not a special win.

Oz is no dummy and I am quite sure the extra point comment was a jab at the host of anti Johnnie folks out there.  Plus I don't really see too many repercussions from the J's not covering the MIAC pick 'ems spread.   ::)

I'm just glad that I was able to help alleviate ROR Jr's morning woes so he was in top shape to snap that great picture.  ;)

As always, we Johnnie fans come through for one another in clutch situations.

Tmert - how's # 13 feeling?  I heard his name over the radio as being hurt on my way to the craft fair.
Go Johnnies!!!
