Golfer loses arm in gator attack

Officials say an alligator bit off part of a golfer's arm as he leaned over to pick up his ball at a private South Carolina course.

The man, who is in his 70s, was retrieving his ball from a pond when the 10-foot alligator bit him at Ocean Creek Golf Course in Beaufort County. The gator pulled the golfer into the pond and ripped off his arm in the struggle. His golf partners were able to free him.

Wildlife workers killed the alligator and retrieved the arm in the hopes it might be reattached.

The man has not been identified. He was being treated at the Medical University of South Carolina, but officials there would not release any information about him.

A call to the golf course was not immediately returned.

Wow, this takes water hazards to a whole new level. The only thing I have experienced that's even close is one time I was playing golf and the ball got stuck and when I went to retrieve it one of the blades of the windmill came around and smacked me in the head.

Didn't this happen to Chubbs in "Happy Gilmore"?

Is anyone interested in starting a fund to let TDT "practice" with this guy? I'm sure the results would make most of us smile...

For the last time, this past Saturday was my son's birthday.  We were hosting a party that began at 5 p.m...

YOUR KID WAS TURNING TWO!!!!  You could have had his birthday party on the Fourth of July and told him the fireworks were just for him and he wouldn't haven't known the difference.  Since when is poor planning on your part suddenly my problem?

In the immortal words of warrior-poet Sam Cassell, "Some guys run their house.  Some guys run around their house.  I'm a guy who runs my house!"  So tell us, Veek, which are you?

This is like listening to priests talk about marriage, only worse.  Notwithstanding the comments of Duff, Oz and others, TC, I'm sure this happy state will come your way some day.  And when it does, there are many of us who will want to check on your status - to make sure that you remain a guy who runs his house.  I can't wait.

Veek

I do run my house, even though my wife may not agree with this statement. :)    If I didn't run my house I wouldn't have been in Collegeville at all this past Saturday.  If I would have stayed until the end, however, I wouldn't have made it back to my house until after 6 p.m., which is when my parents finally showed up from the game.

+k to Duff for his great post.  I'm waiting to hear TC's or TDT's comeback to that one.

Go Johnnies!!!

Hey... I have the world's happiest marriage.  Just ask my wife.  She'll tell you that is the answer I've been instructed to give.

(And I've been playing a good straight man for bennie's above par comedy routine lately.  See?  Well trained and happy husband.)

I will start to get worried if and only if they start limiting the tailgating at Lambeau.  That will be the sign of the apocalypse.

Speaking of stuff from last weekend, how weak was Caruso's Construction Crew?  Hard hats, giant tools and blacked on "beards."  Did you guys singe some corks and do it that way?  What's that all about?  The new I-35 bridge has already been constructed.

Also, Caruso doesn't have to go to John and profess fealty, but he's coached for 2 years in the MIAC with the winningest coach in the history of college football and he hasn't seen fit to speak to him other than to say "Nice win" after the end of two games?

Do you really think it's THAT unusual for the coaches at rival schools to not speak to each other? I'm sure Jim Smith and Steve Fritz are cordial since it's been 20+ years...but do you think Lane Kiffin stays up at night whispering sweet nothings to Urban Meyer? Does Rick Neuheisel have Pete Carroll on speed dial? Not when there is this and this kind of stuff going on when an upstart tries to upset the balance.

Get a clue, old man. Gags has earned his stripes — to say the least — but that doesn't mean everyone has to be his best friend or worship him immediately upon joining the conference, even if you and your son came halfway across the nation to do just that. This is much ado about nothing.

It's easy to show up and cheer for a team that has been a national power for as long as most posters have known the program. You Johnnies have it easy in that respect. Guys like Bench and I have suffered through more than you can imagine with our respective football programs. I can only hope that Haugen does the same thing for GAC that Caruso has done for UST. It's been far too long since Gustie football was relevant.

And I actually stood with a number of Johnnie students who LOVED the construction crew bit by UST. It's those type of fans who make the D3 atmosphere truly special. Hopefully the SJU students can come up with some sort of response if/when they meet again...cause I'm guessing those props will get passed down for as long as Caruso stays in town.

Wonka,
This statement is getting close to crossing the line. When you were a player, nobody questioned why you went to GAC instead of following your father to Concordia.

Rip on the team (as a whole) the coaches and the fans all you want- but don't go after an individual player's decision as to what school he decided to attend.

When St. Olaf opened the Florida pipeline- the coaches were the target- not the kids. Let's respect the bounderies
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Fellas...anyone tune into the Js game on AM 1330 this last weekend?  I had a report that they aired a game that was not SJU, anyone else run into this issue?

thanks...

VOJ;  Wondering also if you could post the interview with Coach Caruso from Saturday's broadcast.  The archive you currently have listed begins with your SJU/UST game call.

Developing....

I don't have control over that...IT at SJU does and there were some issues regarding the airing of Johnnies football this weekend.  I still have it in our system however for today and some of tomorrow, would you like me to send it to someone at johnniefootball.com?

Okay, okay...

So let me get this straight:

1) If it wasn't for "short fields," some bad mistakes, etc...SJU would've won 56 to 0. UST got outplayed all game. Their D sucked and the only reason they were in it was essentially that SJU players had tripped over their own feet a number of times.

2) Glenn Caruso is a media whore because he's been on KSTP and a few local radio shows.

3) Glenn Caruso should have to pay "homage" to Gags by getting on one knee and kissing his rings.

4) Glenn Caruso shouldn't be such a rah rah guy...he should concede the point that UST/SJU game is predetermined and we should focus on sneaking into the back door of the playoffs.

5) Glenn Caruso should not say "them" or "they" when referring to mighty SJU. He should call them the "Big Red Machine" or the "3 time National Champion St. John's University Johnnies"

     OR

We can be glad that the games are competitive and your rivals are someone worth hating again. In other words, Glenn Caruso is the exact opposite of Don Roney and this is such a good thing it makes me want to cry. See: http://johnniefootball.com/archive/touchdowntommy/2007/10/23/touchdown-ts-post-corner-5/

It's not exactly Hayes v. Schembechler, nor will it ever be, but Glenn Caruso is not supposed to like you. He supposed to want to beat the hell out of you..and if he doesn't it should keep him up at night.  In addition, he should be excited about his football team and not be satisfied with with 6 and @#%!ing 4!

Go to hell SJU!

Except everyone on MIACPP, I like you guys.

Since no one else has corrected this...its 4
