Badgerwarhawk, always ready for some ice fishing as long as it is done at the EelPout Festival, which will be February 19-21, 2010 in Walker on Leech Lake. The Bikini Ice Fishing Team will be making another appearance.

Bikini ice fishing, there aren't many things that could get me out on a frozen lake in February but that might work.

If it isn't one thing to complain about it'll be another...as long as it's a Johnnie monopoly on here.

Caruso owes nothing to Gags other than to give him his best shot. And "Caruso's Crew" is no more lame than dressing like clowns in drag and running around. At least we're getting a fan base that actually watches the game in Collegeville now. We still have buses of drunken idiots showing up at halftime with no clue that there's a game...but it's a start.

Nothing wrong with drunken idiots, right TDT? ;D

Bench;  The majority of time we enjoy acting like a bunch of old ladys with our petty little arguments. I know you're well aware of the Johnnie sarcasm we throw around on this site like copper pennies.

Fans having fun and supporting their team is exactly what makes the MIAC conference an all-around fun experience.  I thought the GC faux beards was very good.

What I don't agree with is the way WW speared tmerton regarding his opinions based on his commitment to fly half way across the country weekly to watch his son play.  I agree with TDT when he says WW has crossed the line once again.

As far as the monopoly on this board, I even suggested to WW that he oughta start a booster club to bolster their talking ranks and competitiveness in the conference.  WW's other half Frank Ricard has gone underground.

Regarding drunks showing up at halftime... a friend we invited up and her 8 year old daughter experienced "young college boys" puking in the corn fields on their way back to their car.  Don't know how close they got and don't know who the students might have been, but you are correct there were drunken fools at the game.  College students - jeeshh.

Can't speak to WW's comments...don't really know the full story.

I always circled the obvious blowouts on the schedule so my parents knew when to drive from North Dakota  ;D

Let's just say they got to watch a lot of Hamline, Mac, Carleton and Auggie Tech back in my day.

Ok, so how about this then, seeing as it's Thursday and the season isn't over, a little football talk?  Maybe? No?  I'll try my best...

Carleton v UST.  I can't see this being close as UST's line will likely dominate Carleton's D.  But, Ramler did have the scheme to tear through their D last year.  But, he had a QB complete something like 86% of his passes that game.  I don't think it will be like Carleton's Bethel game, I'd guess an 18 point win for UST, if not a little closer.

Olaf v SJU:  This is actually kind of interesting.  Olaf has big boys on their line that could allow them to stay in the game.  If anything, just watch Leon Clark play.  He's got D1 talent in a D3 body.  Don't think the rest of the Oles have the talent to stay with the Johnnies though.  23-13 SJU

Veek

Fins - since you won't be attending this Saturday's events is Larry in charge of refreshments and your space capsule thermos?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Hazzben - thanks for your post.
Go Johnnies!!!

Carleton v. UST: I think UST wins this one going away, but I agree it is probably closer than the Bethel game.  Not that UST is worse than Bethel, but because the knights were super young to start the year.  No question, Ramler can coach, and I think his team is probably the one that will have improved the most over the course of the year considering where they started.

Olaf v. SJU:  If this game is close, it is because Olaf's defense is better than advertised.  These Olaf teams are the polar opposite of the Meidt version.  They are anemic on offense and physical on defense.  I wasn't that impressed with Clark against Bethel and don't see him going off against SJU's defense.  That said, I think Olaf keeps it close until mid way through the 3rd, when SJU pulls away.  There will be a few key turnovers by Olaf that will spell their doom going down the stretch.

GAC v. AUG: I think Augsburg wins this one, there offense will be too much for GAC to handle defensively.  And GAC doesn't have the offensive weapons to keep pace.

Hamline v. Cobbers: I think the Cobbers show some pride here and win going away.  However, I wouldn't be shocked if Hamline kept it close, especially given Concordia's recent penchant for turning the ball over in droves.

Veek: Who is this "Larry" you speak of?  TDT will place a call or two with Mr. Rogers and make sure we have some hot bevies on Saturday morning.  The Kool-Aid should only be served when it is 60+ degrees for optimal flavor.

Zip: I have my Duct tape ready for your mouth when you come to sit in Veek's VIP seats.  No more booing or F-n-heimers from you in the stands...

RE: Caruso

This guy is an afterthought.  0-2.  Clearly loves to hear himself talk and speaks almost entirely in cliches.  At least Gags is funny even if you have heard the stories 87 times.  TDT listened to the VOJ interview.  Snooze, Caruso bores me....

I agree with Auggie Tech.  Their QB is actually very good, and could become a stud when his team stops being terrible around him.  CCM will probably win as well, but what happened to them?  At first, I thought they'd be pretty mediocre considering they lost so much.  Then, they beat Williamette and I figured they had guys lying in the wake.  Now, they're technically the worst team in the MIAC.

As for Leon Clark, I've seen him play twice and both me and another guy agreed that he has some amazing talent and speed.  I think part of the reason he can be unimpressive is that he just doesn't have enough surrounding him to help him get yards.   But I don't think he will do too much against SJU as long as their linebackers aren't still hungover from Saturday night.  With basically no passing game to worry about, their LBs will be flying to Clark.

D O.C.

Olaf v SJU: haven't heard the weather, the injury reports, the offensive or defensive schemes, or anything for that matter

I predict the home team will finish a 4th game by the skin of their teeth and go 8-0.

At least he doesn't wear women's jackets.

Clark hasn't been himself lately.  I think the nagging injury from the UST game has bothered him.  I think this bye week will do him well and he should be close to 100% for the game.

It is true, the Olaf teams of the past 2 years do seem to be polar opposites of the teams in the Meidt Era.  I think that is primarily due to a stark difference in our talent.  Not to say that the talent has been down recently, but rather it has been focused in a different area.  We don't have three receivers who could all probably start anywhere in the MIAC (but  current Ole Jennings has got a lot of talent) and a QB like Penz or Wilsey who can sit in the pocket and chuck the ball 75 yards.  Instead we have a slew of solid RBs and a QB who is as dangerous with his legs as he is with his arm.

Even before Meidt left, he talked with us about the need to switch focus on our offense to a more "down to earth" style of play.  He clearly recognized that he no longer had the players to run his record-setting scheme anymore.  Like any good coach, he was willing to adapt his system to match the abilities of his players.  I think had Meidt been here, you wouldn't see a whole lot of difference with how Coach OJ runs things now.  Regardless, and you guys will hear this from me a lot, Olzewski has done a stellar job with his first head coaching gig and I expect Olaf will soon be challenging for the MIAC title again.
