Veek: Who is this "Larry" you speak of?  TDT will place a call or two with Mr. Rogers and make sure we have some hot bevies on Saturday morning.  The Kool-Aid should only be served when it is 60+ degrees for optimal flavor.

Zip: I have my Duct tape ready for your mouth when you come to sit in Veek's VIP seats.  No more booing or F-n-heimers from you in the stands...

RE: Caruso

This guy is an afterthought.  0-2.  Clearly loves to hear himself talk and speaks almost entirely in cliches.  At least Gags is funny even if you have heard the stories 87 times.  TDT listened to the VOJ interview.  Snooze, Caruso bores me....

Closed Circuit to the Little Wiener Dog: You've reached a new low when you are complimentary to the Bethel posters and seek out their reassurance that you are a "family man".  This continued pandering for Karma with be met with strong and decisive -K....

Hello all, had to create a new profile as I have not posted in so long. Used to be SJU92#57. Anyway, was in attendence for the J/T game this past Sat. Wow! What a game and what a turn out. Other than the parking nightmare, kid's and I had a great time. As a former player and until this yr, a game day regular, my assesment of the team is as such. D-played great, o-line played fairly well, but as I have noticed over the course of the last several yrs, only Jimmy could be in charge of this offensive juggernaut!!!!  God help us if Gag's ever does quit/die and Jimmy takes over....... :'(

Returned from Portland today.  Sorry TDT, no time to scout Linfield or participate in any protests.

I highly recommend El Gauacho in Portland.  Especially if someone else is picking up the tab.

Ok, so how about this then, seeing as it's Thursday and the season isn't over, a little football talk?  Maybe? No?  I'll try my best...

Carleton v UST.  I can't see this being close as UST's line will likely dominate Carleton's D.  But, Ramler did have the scheme to tear through their D last year.  But, he had a QB complete something like 86% of his passes that game.  I don't think it will be like Carleton's Bethel game, I'd guess an 18 point win for UST, if not a little closer.

Olaf v SJU:  This is actually kind of interesting.  Olaf has big boys on their line that could allow them to stay in the game.  If anything, just watch Leon Clark play.  He's got D1 talent in a D3 body.  Don't think the rest of the Oles have the talent to stay with the Johnnies though.  23-13 SJU

Carleton v. UST: I think UST wins this one going away, but I agree it is probably closer than the Bethel game.  Not that UST is worse than Bethel, but because the knights were super young to start the year.  No question, Ramler can coach, and I think his team is probably the one that will have improved the most over the course of the year considering where they started.

Olaf v. SJU:  If this game is close, it is because Olaf's defense is better than advertised.  These Olaf teams are the polar opposite of the Meidt version.  They are anemic on offense and physical on defense.  I wasn't that impressed with Clark against Bethel and don't see him going off against SJU's defense.  That said, I think Olaf keeps it close until mid way through the 3rd, when SJU pulls away.  There will be a few key turnovers by Olaf that will spell their doom going down the stretch.

GAC v. AUG: I think Augsburg wins this one, there offense will be too much for GAC to handle defensively.  And GAC doesn't have the offensive weapons to keep pace.

Hamline v. Cobbers: I think the Cobbers show some pride here and win going away.  However, I wouldn't be shocked if Hamline kept it close, especially given Concordia's recent penchant for turning the ball over in droves.

I wont't be surprised if the cobbers lose 30-13 to HAM.  Cobbers have a difficult time scoring and hamline is a good team.

CN...you trying some reverse psyh.. ::)  that way if they do loose, which I don't see happening, you won't be as disappointed, but if they do win you can enjoy it more.... ;D

Looks like the board has been keeping a nice pace since I last saw it.  Another exciting MIAC season is upon us.  I don't know much news about the cobbers exiting fall camp this year.  It looks like they have transferred Larson from defense to starting QB to start the year.  He might get a rude awakening on Saturday as the cobbs host 8th ranked Williamette.  I will be rooting for the cobbers no doubt, but don't be surprised if the cobbs get down early to see some rotating QB's in the game.  I just hope it doesn't turn out like SJU with 3 qb's rotating into the middle part of the season, but maybe I do because you have to do whatever it takes to win the MIAC!

Making matters even worse is the Cobbers' schedule doesn't give them any early breathers:  #8 Willamette, @ Valley City County Credit Union St., #13 St. John's, @ Bethel, @ #22 St. Thomas.  Yuck.  I think they graduated something like 98% of their offensive production from last season and are starting a defensive back at QB.  If they don't figure their offense out in a hurry, things could get brutal for what should be a pretty talented team.  And that's not exactly the easiest offense for an inexperienced team to run.

'Nation, what happened to the Cobbers?  If they don't win out (which will be tough with back-to-back trips to Northfield in a couple weeks) they'll at least match their worst MIAC record since 1951.  Unbelievable.  Did anyone in Moorhead see this coming?

As for Leon Clark, I've seen him play twice and both me and another guy agreed that he has some amazing talent and speed.  I think part of the reason he can be unimpressive is that he just doesn't have enough surrounding him to help him get yards.   But I don't think he will do too much against SJU as long as their linebackers aren't still hungover from Saturday night.  With basically no passing game to worry about, their LBs will be flying to Clark.

Clark impressed me in a couple of snaps last year against Carleton and the season opener against Luther.

Ok, let me get this straight...

1. It's perfectly legit to steal from equipment piles of opposing teams and brag about it for years on end afterward.
2. It's kosher to rip on coaches for, essentially, being affiliated with any team other than the Johnnies.
3. It's crossing the line when I point out a Californian, who was leading the anti-Caruso talk, now leads the worship sessions at the Temple of Gags in Collegeville.

I'm not sure what I was thinking. Thanks for finally clearing that up for me.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

How do any of the posters know whether Caruso and Gags speak with each other? Seems to me like a lot of venomous chatter based on hearsay and assumption.

Personally. I doubt any of the coaches spend a lot of time interacting socially with coaches from other schools, primarily because they are so focused on their job and that job consumes a lot of time and energy, leaving little of either for anything beyond their families. But for all I (or any of us on here) know the MIAC football coaches could have a weekly wine tasting get-together.

Ok...time to set the record straight on this issue...I know its "popular" to have dislike for Glen Caruso by Johnnies posters, but after doing some chatting with those who are involved with Johnnies Football those feelings may be a little mis-guided.

Coach Caruso has made a few overtures to meet with Coach Gagliardi, including once around the Minnesota High School All-Star football festivities, but as far as I know a meeting has not happened.

Olaf v SJU: haven't heard the weather, the injury reports, the offensive or defensive schemes, or anything for that matter

I predict the home team will finish a 4th game by the skin of their teeth and go 8-0.

D.O.C.

The weather should be perfect with temps at 52 maybe a little better...with no threat of rain

As for SJU they are as healthy as they have been all season, especially on the offensive side of the ball, with the exception of Nick Schnieder who is out for the year everyone else seems to be close to or at 100%.  On defense look for Nick Gunderson to get more than a series as he attempts to play with a tough knee injury.

Even though the Ole's sport the MIAC's toughest run defense, the Johnnies Collegeville Moving Company(the CMC) feel they can run the football, just a matter of where...with the smallish linebackers the Ole's have look for power football similiar to what they threw at UST.  It may not be the most exciting way to win, but it sure paid off in OT when the Tommies front seven was gassed.

As for the air attack, the Johnnies will spread the field and look for favorable matchups, I think Josh Overman has a big game as he is over a few nicks from previous games, his size over the middle will be tough for the Ole's to handle

As for the Ole's...they have a talented back in Clark, but this year other than Logan Flannery who should be first team MIAC and had a "quiet" 100 yards, no runningback has had an easy time against the SJU D.  Look for more of the same and how easy does he go down?  Johnnies have had problems with bigger backs who give as much punishment as they get and I am not sure Clark is that kind of a back.  As for the passing game, according to reports young backup quarterback Clay Garrett throws the ball a little better than Haberman, but Haberman scared defenses with his ability to run and with his punctured lung putting him on the sidelines, it might be an easier matchup for SJU.  Jennings is the top WR and he has the speed to beat the Johnnies deep, so he will need attention, maybe not as much as Waldvogel generated but similiar.

All in all I see a 31-7 win for SJU at home, provided thee is no Tommie hangover, if the boys are not as sharp as they need to be it could be more of a 24-14 game.

Holy crap, I might actually agree with something VOJ says....nah...screw it.

My guess is that SJU will be able to hold in Clark for the most part if not all the game, but he's gonna be the fastest player on the field and could break a TD run or two.  If he can get past the LB level, he's likely gone, but that's not an easy task.  If SJU CAN spread the field the Oles defensive scheme is very susceptible to seam routes down the middle and the like, but I haven't seen anything from Boyle or the SJU offense that shows they can do that.

The Ole team is a lot like last year in that they're getting better late in the year, so I'd see it more like the second score than the first.

OleHog74

The success of the Ole offense is truly going to live and die with the line tomorrow.  With Garret getting the start, he is going to rely on the veterans up front to protect him and be the on-field leaders that this team needs.  That being said, Clay has a great arm and if he can overcome the jitters of making his first collegiate start up in Collegeville, he should have plenty of opportunities to showcase his throwing ability.

I have to think that SJU will make shutting Clark and Foss down their top priority, which may leave them vulnerable to being hit deep.  I expect at least two long completions from Garret to Jennings.

Its gonna be a great game, I am really wishing i could be there.
