A meeting did happen between Gags and Caruso...it went like this:

Caruso: Coach Gagliardi, Glenn Caruso, head coach at UST, nice to meet you. You've done so much for small college football, it's a real honor.
Gags: Huh? Who are you? What?
Caruso: MY NAME IS GLENN CARUSO! I COACH UST! IT'S A REAL HONOR TO MEET YOU SIR!
Gags: I think the nurses are stealing from me.
Caruso: I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR GAME THIS YEAR!
Nurse: It's time for your nap Coach Gagliardi
Gags: (Spits in nurse's face) I'm not gonna let no damn German spy put me down for nap!
Caruso: Well, I'll talk to you later coach. Nice seeing you!
Gags: DON'T GO SHE'S TRYING TO POISON ME!

It's not that a meeting didn't take place, it's just HIPPA regulations prevent the staff at the old folks home from talking about it, and Gags clearly doesn't remember.

Looks like the board has been keeping a nice pace since I last saw it.  Another exciting MIAC season is upon us.  I don't know much news about the cobbers exiting fall camp this year.  It looks like they have transferred Larson from defense to starting QB to start the year.  He might get a rude awakening on Saturday as the cobbs host 8th ranked Williamette.  I will be rooting for the cobbers no doubt, but don't be surprised if the cobbs get down early to see some rotating QB's in the game.  I just hope it doesn't turn out like SJU with 3 qb's rotating into the middle part of the season, but maybe I do because you have to do whatever it takes to win the MIAC!

Making matters even worse is the Cobbers' schedule doesn't give them any early breathers:  #8 Willamette, @ Valley City County Credit Union St., #13 St. John's, @ Bethel, @ #22 St. Thomas.  Yuck.  I think they graduated something like 98% of their offensive production from last season and are starting a defensive back at QB.  If they don't figure their offense out in a hurry, things could get brutal for what should be a pretty talented team.   And that's not exactly the easiest offense for an inexperienced team to run.

'Nation, what happened to the Cobbers?  If they don't win out (which will be tough with back-to-back trips to Northfield in a couple weeks) they'll at least match their worst MIAC record since 1951.  Unbelievable.  Did anyone in Moorhead see this coming?

Turnovers, turnovers, and some more turnovers. That and the defensive secondary has been picked apart most of the season.

CN...you trying some reverse psyh.. ::)  that way if they do loose, which I don't see happening, you won't be as disappointed, but if they do win you can enjoy it more.... ;D

Yes...trying!  I think the cobbers are better than what their record shows.  Just as cobberfevr says "Turnovers are absolutely the reason why they haven't won since week 2"

TC,
Me personally didn't see this happening after 2 wins to start the year.  However, we have had a string of bad luck just like the 9 blown calls in the postseason for MLB playoffs.  For ex. the ball isn't bouncing in our direction as well as the yankeess have had it.  THey have been fortunate to get the calls and bounces, unlike the cobbers this season.  But turnovers are a huge part of losses, Lee Corso says "if you have more takeaways in the season you will most likely have a winning record and if you have more giveaways you will not!"

Olaf v SJU: haven't heard the weather, the injury reports, the offensive or defensive schemes, or anything for that matter

I predict the home team will finish a 4th game by the skin of their teeth and go 8-0.

D.O.C.

The weather should be perfect with temps at 52 maybe a little better...with no threat of rain

As for SJU they are as healthy as they have been all season, especially on the offensive side of the ball, with the exception of Nick Schnieder who is out for the year everyone else seems to be close to or at 100%.  On defense look for Nick Gunderson to get more than a series as he attempts to play with a tough knee injury.

Even though the Ole's sport the MIAC's toughest run defense, the Johnnies Collegeville Moving Company(the CMC) feel they can run the football, just a matter of where...with the smallish linebackers the Ole's have look for power football similiar to what they threw at UST.  It may not be the most exciting way to win, but it sure paid off in OT when the Tommies front seven was gassed.

As for the air attack, the Johnnies will spread the field and look for favorable matchups, I think Josh Overman has a big game as he is over a few nicks from previous games, his size over the middle will be tough for the Ole's to handle

As for the Ole's...they have a talented back in Clark, but this year other than Logan Flannery who should be first team MIAC and had a "quiet" 100 yards, no runningback has had an easy time against the SJU D.  Look for more of the same and how easy does he go down?  Johnnies have had problems with bigger backs who give as much punishment as they get and I am not sure Clark is that kind of a back.  As for the passing game, according to reports young backup quarterback Clay Garrett throws the ball a little better than Haberman, but Haberman scared defenses with his ability to run and with his punctured lung putting him on the sidelines, it might be an easier matchup for SJU.  Jennings is the top WR and he has the speed to beat the Johnnies deep, so he will need attention, maybe not as much as Waldvogel generated but similiar.

All in all I see a 31-7 win for SJU at home, provided thee is no Tommie hangover, if the boys are not as sharp as they need to be it could be more of a 24-14 game.

Holy crap, I might actually agree with something VOJ says....nah...screw it.

My guess is that SJU will be able to hold in Clark for the most part if not all the game, but he's gonna be the fastest player on the field and could break a TD run or two.  If he can get past the LB level, he's likely gone, but that's not an easy task.  If SJU CAN spread the field the Oles defensive scheme is very susceptible to seam routes down the middle and the like, but I haven't seen anything from Boyle or the SJU offense that shows they can do that.

The Ole team is a lot like last year in that they're getting better late in the year, so I'd see it more like the second score than the first.

K...Clark break a TD run or two?  That is a little aggressive...especially with him coming back from an injury, and the WR Jones not 100% as well.

SJU has shown empty backfield this year a number of times, so spreading the field or running plays from a trips formation is second nature...the CMC will move the football on the ground setting up other options...

A bye week can do wonders on injuries.

Lining up in a formation and actually showing you can be successful from it are two different things.  It won't be that easy to move on the ground against them.  They held Bethel's running game to 14 points...

stanbob

14 will be enough for the Johnnies to win this game.
Everyday is payday in paradise.

Well you could always create a message board on Johhniefootball.com and then you guys can talk to each other about how awesome you are. Or you could learn to take some good natured ribbing every now and then. I mean, a team that wins that often doesn't give me much material to work with, so I make due with what I have.
