It was a low blow meant in jest but it may read overly sharp.  Oops.  In that case I meant it.  ;)

@ smedindy:

The real question for DIII in the next 15 to 20 years is whether or not anyone will actually be able to afford it. The MIAC offers some great options for schools, but they are already cost restrictive. If trends continue with the current rate of tuition hikes (looking at the last 20 years), private schools are going to be almost totally unaffordable unless you're very wealthy. It's not at all out of the realm of possibility that when my son is ready to go to college that MIAC schools will cost $65,000 to $80,000 a year!  There is no possible way I'll be able to afford that, and I think most people would be in the same boat. Unfortunate, but that is the way we are trending.

But that's the way it is nationally. Of the Top 100 schools with the highest tuition, the MIAC members are:

Carleton - 26
Macalester - 63
St. Olaf - 94

Considering that these are the D-1 scholarship schools (non-Ivy) in the Top 100, I think the MIAC is still a great value.

The NESCAC is rife with expensive schools. Where is the law of diminishing returns? Is an education at Bates really worth that much more than Gustavus Adolphus or Concordia?

News from Frank Rajkowski's blog.

Boyle — who first sprained the thumb in a win at Hamline on Oct. 10 and reaggravated the injury late in the first quarter of his team's 10-3 victory over St. Olaf Saturday at Clemens Stadium — underwent X-rays Monday, which he said came back negative as far as a possible fracture goes.

But he will undergo an MRI today to check for a possible tear of the ulnar collateral ligament, a condition commonly known as Gamekeeper's thumb.

Interesting read there, props on sticking your neck out!
IMHO:
UWW is the clear number 1. I see 2 3 and 4 a complete toss up at this point, you can look at SOS and regional win loss but its all conjecture at this point. From my perspective (homer I know) Central has been the most dominant. Only 1 win by less than 14 (to the defending WIAC champ and currently tied for first place UWSP team), while dominating everyone else sans Dubuque winning by 14. Still a solid victory. If Central can win out against Wartburg and BV (both 4-3) in dominating fashion they could easily be the 2nd West team at the end of the season behind UWW as SJU has already beaten its toughes opponents as has Linfield (I believe).

Will be interesting to see it pan out!

Mr. Ypsi

With Wheaton losing, most are now predicting MUC goes 'East' and UWW goes 'North'.  Therefore, you are probably guessing on a #1 'West' seed.  I see it as an absolute toss-up among St. John's, Linfield, and Central.  (With Monmouth #4, unless they also get sent 'North'.)

Definitely agree, they are talking about West Regional Rankings though. Which will always have UWW in it.

You very well could be right, DutchHawk--SJU/Linfield/Central could end up in any order right now.  I think we'll know more this week after UWSP plays UWW-- if UWSP is for real and gives UWW a game, that will bring Central up a notch; however, if UWW blows out UWSP I would think otherwise.  Keep in mind that SJU has already played and beaten its toughest tests of the year in Bethel and UST; Central has been circling the Wartburg date as of late and needs to get through the Knights to be sitting in the same position.  I also put great stock in second place Coe's narrow win over GAC-- who has really struggled in the MIAC this year.  So undefeated in a tough MIAC takes the nod over undefeated in a good (but not great) IIAC by my calculation.  But we'll see this week.

Got ya - I was mixing up two different sets of predictions.

Nice poll . . . what's a "cal lute?"

Or should that be "who?"

johnnie esq -
Id have to agree with your assessment of the IIAC this year. Doesnt seem like we are even on the level with where we usually are. Or maybe the Dutch are just that good  this year ;)

Im hoping UWSP keeps it real close, OT maybe...but dont really want them to win, will probably keep UWW in the West and add UWSP, unless they decide to ship us to the North as was discussed on the IIAC board due to proximity to opponents in Michigan, WI, IL, and into Indiana. Wow...so much conjecture still too early with 3 weeks to go.
