Willy Wonka

I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

smed - I hope you have/had a good time in my old home town. Nice place, but not all that many good lunch places. Bub's is a nice quaint place though.

Good time. Good drive down there. Good meeting. So yeah, it was good!

Pretty quiet week in here with the Johnnies having their bye and UST(d) and the Ole's vanquished.

We still have an at-large waiting for us...Auggie Tech is a formaility despite what happened LAST year. Bethel week I'll get excited again.

A formality is Mt. Union against Muskingum
A formality is Indianapolis over the St. Louis Rams

If a team beats you LAST YEAR and has a winning record THIS YEAR, then it is not a formality.

Due to the closure of the Bay Bridge (agh), I took the ferry in to work this morning and sat with another guy I work with.  He's been suffering through the collapse of the Cal Bears against Bennie's Ducks and Sumander's Troy Boys, so I tried to cheer him up with some stories of how to be 8-0 by the skin of your teeth.  At that point he disclosed that some former QB from GAC named Lane Erickson had married into his family.  Seems Erickson was MIAC Player of the Year in 1968 and, according to my friend, had a tryout with the Oakland Raiders before heading off to dental school at the U.

I found this tidbit from the Gustie archives for the 1967 season:

QuoteQuarterback Lane Erickson ended the conference season with the best pass completion record in the MIAC. Lane threw the ball 85 times and completed 48 of those for a completion percentage of .565.

85 passes in one season?  .565 completion percentage?  Wowser. :o Makes your realize how different the offenses were back then, doesn't it?

Seems he set up his practice in St. Cloud and thus spent his dental career cleaning teeth for Johnnie fans. ;)

D O.C.

But what did he do after the nitrous oxide was applied?

Well, yes and no. Augustana (IL) in 2005 threw 33 passes all year!

Yepper! 17-33 for 368 yards, 3 TD, 4 INT.

One Favre gunslinging Sunday...or one season (12 games) for 2005 Augustana! Heck, they only threw 2 passes when they lost 44-7 to Mt. Union. Of course, Nate Kmic ran for just 361 yards that day against them.

It doesn't matter how you put points on the board - just put 'em on the board. (Or keep the other team off of the board - that works, too.)

And then there was the oil vs. water game that year. Augie 52, Catholic 26 (though it was 42-7 after three).

Augie - 65 rushes for 516 yards, 2 pass plays for 48 yards.
Catholic - 13 rushes for 39 yards, 70 pass plays for 490 yards, including 3 sacks for -18.

Ok, I'm done. I was just intrigued by this whole thing...

Despite some shaky second half defense the last couple of weeks the Men of Troy have held on for a couple of wins. They will need to play a complete game if they want to beat Bennie's Ducks this Saturday!

Tmert, how are my favorite girls doing?

WOW!

Didn't see that coming.  UWW drops to #4 in the West?  Yet two WIAC squads on the list?

Very interesting.  I could see SJU/Linfield/Central in any order, as did I see Coe/UST/Oxy in any order too.  And at least I got UWSP right.

Looks like the committee went right by the book-- which is their right to do but does seem to break with tradition a bit.  Obviously this will change a little bit but it does seem that the path to Salem this year from the West will go through McMinnville.  However, it does ask the question-- is it possible that Linfield moves to the South region?  A flight is a flight, right?

So they just picked names out of a hat, then?

Actually, that makes about as much sense as ordering teams by OW% and OOW% would.
