Sigh...

At least I was correct on my third point.  Also, it is the holy grail of rumors.  I got that bit correct as well.  I seem to remember art least two posts that suggested johnniefootball.com would take a credibility hit if the rumor wasn't true.  And I think there was three, but I'm on the blackberry and it's too hard to go back and check.  Sigh.

AO,
The cobbers are 5-4 on the year.
The Valley City State game is not considered in SOS calculations.  4-4 in-region record

Concordia would shred Northwestern. Period.
You usually could say the same thing about Augsburg....

But who cares about Concordia anyways, the only games with playoff implications this week are Johnnies vs Carleton and St. Thomas vs Northwestern.  I don't think if Reusse had been interviewing Johnnie players they would be asking for a rematch with St. Thomas.  From the Johnnie fan perspective, Northwestern could eliminate the hated Tommies, and make the road to Salem a little smoother for the J's.   It's about time for the Tommies to find a way to screw it up as Gags had predicted in the pre-season..

Just a couple of observations from a non-Johnnie fan:

1.  Northwestern is VERY UNLIKELY to derail St. Thomas.
2.  There will be nothing smooth about the Johnnies "Road to Salem" whether St. Thomas qualifies or not.   ;)

Mrs. 57 & I got back from celebrating our grandson's life. Thanks again to all for the prayers and good wishes. The D3 Football family is truly amazing. We celebrated with fried catfish (several times). We highly recommend the catfish at the 'Boom-a-Rang' diner in Pryor, OK.
Hope to get back to JOHNNIE speed shortly.  ;)

You have been missed! Good to have you back! :)

Just for discussion sake, and granting that we (Johnnie Fans) would love to see SJU seeded #1 overall, What is the "right" thing to do? If the mathmatical criteria dictates that SJU is rated #1, but most intelligent D III fans would deem both UWW and MUC to be more deserving of such a distinction, what should be done?

I have always thought that objectivity has precedence, but I don't think you can be slaves to the numbers, when they are based on disparate data, i.e. winning percentage of teams played, when those teams are not of similar quality. But that's just me.

I really, really, really hope St. John's gets the #1 overall seed and either gets a chance to host Mount Union or UW-Whitewater in the national semifinals or avoid them entirely until the Stagg Bowl.  I also think it would be a total travesty.  The use of the current SOS system by the NCAA to select and seed teams is a big enough mistake as is.  There is no sense in compounding that mistake by making anyone besides MUC or UW-W the top team in the tournament when there is so much subjective evidence that they are clearly the top two teams in the country.

bennie - When did the Blue Jackets turn into a bunch of Goons?  First Hitch puts out a hit on Ovechkin, and they unleash their gang of thugs by their bench where they all but stick a shiv in his ribs, then Nash slices up Cam Ward like a Thanksgiving turkey. CALL OFF THE DOGS!!
Yeah, my comment to Ovechkin is that if you go over to the opponent's bench looking for trouble, don't be surprised if you find it! :P Admittedly, I find it far more entertaining when he does it to Sid and the Pens that when he does it to the Jackets. ;) I hope Ward will be okay. That was sure a scary accident.

@ AO and Cobber posters:

Do us all a favor. When you are quoting an ongoing conversation, edit the amount you quote. We don't need a recap of the same quote string over and over. Not to mention it takes up nearly half a page.

Let's see if I have it correctly. I'm going off the ice for a line change, and my path takes me past the opponents bench "looking for trouble", where an opponent decides to give me a shoulder shrug, I give it back to him, and I should expect to get set upon by the entire opponent's bench. I'll put that in my hockey Book O' Knowledge. This after the opponent's coach has declared he would hunt me down.

Because of this, the most exciting player in hockey is out of action. Maybe Voracek should watch his back.

LOL, I was going to say the same thing.  If UST makes the cut and ends up in the playoffs, and if they would end up facing the Johnnies at some point in the playoffs, there is no way that UST will be the toughest team to beat.

VOJ: TC and I walked by the FB Press Box late in the 4th Qtr.  The door was wide open and there was no security in sight.  A quick waltz up the stairs and you could have been interviewing TDT live on the air!!

Yea...not sure that would have been in the best interests of the Johnnie Football Radio Network, or those who listen, thanks for the offer though ;D

RE: The johnniefootball.com alleged rumor on Grant coming to SJU:

The full text is, "With rumors of EP head coach Mike Grant heading to Collegeville next fall here's one Johnnie fan who hopes he packs his trailer and saves room to bring along a few of his football playing graduates."

A couple obvious things to point out to the mouth-breathing Johnnie haters:

A) Dusty does not endorse the rumor, but merely hopes it's true.

B) This rumor is an annual favorite.  Name the year in the last five where this rumor was not circulated.

C) Tommies suck and Northwestern wishes it was good enough to suck.

I find it incredulous that in the space of a couple posts, people can defend a professional journalist who made multiple simple and obvious factual errors (as grateful that we are that he at least writes the error-ridden column) while at the same time trying to condemn a fan site for wishing the holy grail of rumors is finally true.

The thing about this persistent rumor is that it is so powerfully intoxicating or infuriating.  For the Johnnie fan it's a marriage of two legends and holds the promise of further Johnnie greatness, and for the other MIAC teams it represents at least another thirty years of sore necks as they crane their heads trying to see the leaders.

After reading this rumor AGAIN...part of it might be right...Coach Grant might be calling it quits, but the reason for doing so might have more to do with two sons who will be playing Division I football and his wanting to follow their careers rather than coach in Collegeville.

Winterhawk:  You are a Tommie (and a PP newbie) so I don't expect you to understand this, the point of my post was that it indeed was a JOKE.  Veek understands this and was just doing his usual stoke the fire.  Relax, take a valium, and come back tomorrow.

Your pithy comments are hilarious and endlessly entertaining.     And you're a good writer.    Keep 'em coming.

Plus, Veek is the perfect foil.      You two are quite a team.

I think the board is big enough for some humor in addition to the football banter that makes up  about  85 to 90% of the posts.

Thanks bennie. I was thinking about you when your lads put the 'Ente stampfen' on the Trojans.  ;)

BIG BIG game for the Jackets tomorrow in Columbus. I'll be rooting for them :P

Could not have stated it better myself. Being the impartial observer (or not) I do not see any way they should place anyone #1 except MUC or UWW. ;)
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Rumor come and go, John will end all rumors when he is ready. He's not ready and in no hurry to retire. He has stated numerous times, as long as he is in good health he will continue to coach. I personally hope that's for a long long time.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
