I'm here.  I had a couple of shots I was gonna take at the statements of Boyle coming into his own and being a really good starting quarterback, but I decided I didn't want to get stoned this week.

I got lumped together with PRF2009A?!?!  My arguments have been very sound, they just happen to almost always go against the red-tinted SJU fans, which instantly makes my arguments seem illogical/blasphemous  to them.

TC - People have talked about SJU's wins being unimpressive, and I don't know which side to take.  SJU fans can talk about their "domination" of UST all they want, but it was a close game, and I never felt that SJU showed they were the clearly dominant team, if someone can point out to me how that was shown, I would love to see it.  But they still have shown they can beat very good teams in Bethel and UST.

That being said, the SJU defense is VERY good.  I agree completely with that statement.  The SJU defense has always been built around speed in the LB crew, and now they have that with strength to boot.  But one thing that I think could be brought up is the lack of passing offense in the MIAC.  The last two years we have seen some very good QBs and WRs go through the MIAC, this year...nothing.  If there is a weakness in SJU's D, it could be the corners and that could be the factor in the playoffs.

14-17 points could be enough to win some games, but what about the games when it's not, then what happens?

Its not the corners...Haik, Powell and now especially Bonyge are very good cover guys who support against the run well, Bonyge might be the most physical corner in the MIAC...when the Johnnies have been attacked through the air and given up the big play is that sometimes the safety's make mistakes...it happens but for the most part they have played well this year...

You are right you don't need to have the biggest offensive line, but if you are going to sit back there and throw the football you better have someone be able to hold out Schroeder, Hayes, Meyer and others then a repeat of Augsburg and Hamline will happen...

Carleton faithful, please join us for the Stiftungsfestivities this Saturday in the parking lot above the scoreboard end of the field. We usually get things going about 10:00 a.m. Bring a culinary delight to share if you like. In addition to the world famous Stiftungsfest burgers, we will be having some wonderful chili courtesy of the Arths and pork chops from Von Hanson's Meats. Hope to see you in Collegeville.

VOJ - I haven't watched much of SJU's corners this year.  I just don't think they've been  tested by anyone.  Auggie Tech is about system and short passing, not much corners can do there, Waldvogel plays a lot of slot and had a terrible quarterback throwing to him.  If SJU's defense slips up, I would expect it to be through the air.  I doubt SJU's corner scheme has changed very much from previous years: keep them in front, give them the short stuff, stay sound fundamentally and make the tackle.

And I actually meant to say the defensive backfield as a whole, as the corners are usually the same each year, no lock-down guy, but no weak link that will get beat downfield often.

Except maybe once by an exceptional throwing team for a touchdown. Then that offense has to score twice to win.

Unfortunately, no burgers or chile for me on Saturday, but for my culinary contribution, The Sizzle is served.

Carleton probably shouldn't worry you this year.  They have made strides since the beginning of this year, but because they're missing a recruiting class, they just don't have the depth to absorb injuries.  I'm not sure what the injury status is but I can guarantee you a couple people had to have gone down.

Their D has improved but it won't be enough to stop the SJU rushing attack.  On offense, they're receivers and quarterback are young and still very raw.  Maybe they can keep it close for a while ala 2006, but I don't think they have the ability to make a major upset this year.  Next year though...they could be a 7-9 win team...

Do you know anything about why there has been a quarterback switch?  Kind of late the in season for that, unless Ramler wants to see some game action of his back-up heading into next year.

I think the regional rankings had to be adjusted to give more creditability of a move of UWW to the North...I think things point to a possible Kohawk party at Clemens on the 21st...

I don't think the switch was due to giving the back-up experience.  Anderson played in 7 games his freshman year and even made a start when Henfling went down.  I would say that is adequate experience for a backup.  Also, he is older than Schmid, so there is no preparing for when Schmid leaves going on.  I would say that the change was more due to the 11 interceptions and multiple fumbles that Schmid had on the season.  I also heard a rumor that Schmid was a little banged up, so that might have played some role as well.

Schmid is banged up.  I'm not sure who will be starting this week.

Schimd has played decent but just had too many costly turnovers this year.  He has really improved as a runner from the beginning of the year, but he needs to get a better vibe going with his receivers.  His arm is there, he's really got a cannon, but he needs to develop his reading ability and learn how to use his arm in games.  Too many moonballs.  The only way to do that is by staying in the offseason and summer and working with your receivers.  If he does that, he has a chance to be very good.  If he doesn't, then, well I don't know.

Quick note: he actually played a snap against the Johnnies last year.  SJU defense is all based off of keying the linemen, as I'm sure you know VOJ, and on one play Schmid came in, half the line went one way, half the other, and Schmid ran up the middle for an uncontested 4 yards.  Probably didn't want to risk getting Henfling killed if it didn't work.

May have also had something to do with the Henfling lacking any real speed, though he probably would have pump faked and side stepped his way to at least 7 yards.

No, I think you have to be able to read, solve the world's problems, and be able develop a cure for all diseases. Combined with that you are required to lack common sense and all social skills. :D

This question is for the multitude of St. Johns fans on this board. Does anyone know if the Metrodome will be used for any playoff games? Has this ever been done in the past? Thanks.

I want to give a SHOUT OUT to Columbus Blue Jacket head coach Ken Hitchcock on coaching his 1,000th game. OOPS! Too soon bennie? ;)

Highly unlikely they'd play a game in the dome.  That was one of the reasons for the new Sprinturf in 2002, so that they wouldn't have to (or be forced to) move late season games.  They did travel to Fargo for a playoff game back in 2001.

I am not sure that last night's game should count toward the total... :-[
