This question is for the multitude of St. Johns fans on this board. Does anyone know if the Metrodome will be used for any playoff games? Has this ever been done in the past? Thanks.

Highly unlikely they'd play a game in the dome.  That was one of the reasons for the new Sprinturf in 2002, so that they wouldn't have to (or be forced to) move late season games.  They did travel to Fargo for a playoff game back in 2001.

Thanks. Would there be any extreme weather-related situation in which you think a game would be moved to the Metrodome, even with only several days notice?

Maybe a giant snowfall, in which case the field could not be cleared. But then that might prevent a team from even traveling to Minnesota.

Unfortunately, no burgers or chile for me on Saturday, but for my culinary contribution, The Sizzle is served.

From The Sizzle:

For  MIAC footbal discussion during the season, and general football, fishing, beer, women chatter year-round, there is no substitute for the MIAC Post Patterns board. This board is how I met a lot of the ne'er-do-wells who grace these pages and frequent the famous Johnnie pre-game tailgate. The board is a sub-part of d3football.com, which is the peerless site for all D3 football information. If you haven't already, lurk on the board or register and log in. We always welcome new blood, even Tommies.

Well done, finsleft.

I can find no reason to move a game, outside of a nuclear emergency in Monticello and being down wind from the reactor. As Buckman noted, the SprinTurf was put in for this reason, not having to move late season games to a different venue. If it snows several inches to several feet, snow removal equipment (plows)can be used  to clear the surface quickly. I will defer to Redtooth to go into greater detail, as he was very involved with the installation process. Cold is not an issue. The game against Coe in 2002 was a cold day ( if I remember it was below zero windchill) I will defer to Duffman, as he played in the game & if I remember- he wore short sleeves!  :P

No, with a turf field, I cannot imagine them moving a game.  Snow is easy to clear off of it.  We moved a game to the Fargo Dome my senior year due to an 18" snowfall and a grass field that was way beyond repair, but they put the turf in the following summer, so no worries at all.  The game SJUSection105 mentioned versus Coe was mighty fricking cold.  I remember the windchill was hovering just above zero.  We still played there.  And yes, I wore short sleeves  ;D  Long sleeves are for quarterbacks and 2nd-teamers.

The more interesting snow related question is which namby-pamby sissy team does SteelCurtain support who apparently can't play in the cold?  Redlands?  I'm on the BlackBerry and can't check any details, but it sounds to me like the fear of a SoCal surfer hoping to be in the position of seeing a few Central Minnesota snow flakes.

Well Oz, he doesn't use his school e-mail like certain Augsburg receivers from last year.. ;)

With all due respect to DuffMan and the Coe game, ask Dr. Dirk about 1976 vs. Buena Vista....about 18 inches of snow on the ground and sub-zero windchills....the starters were in street clothes (and parkas) in the second half in the national semi-finals!!!

Count me in. I was ticketed in 2003 and caught the flu Thursday afternoon before my Friday flight. Being an adult I stayed home instead of infect the airplane and section 105 at Clemens.
Now I cannot wait to rush the field!

A quick scan showed that most of SteelCurtains posts have been on the Northwest board Oz.

If everyone is right and SJU is the #1 seed in the "West," I would like to see UWW again. That would mean SJU is playing in the Semis-not bad. And, partying with Flash is quite the experience-especially with the Groovy Beer!  8)

I'll second that.

All true.  The Iowa writer covering the game wrote something about seeing a Polar Bear in the woods near the visitor stands.

Nope. The NCAA would have to spend money to rent a neutral site. They do that already with the Stagg Bowl. Plus, it would be hard for stadiums to 'hold' dates on the whim that the NCAA may be calling to put a football game that may get to 1/3 capacity (sad, but true) when they could do something else. (Not just talking about the Metrodome, but other stadia around the nation).

Stadia? Are you sure the plural is not stadii?
