Speaking of ice fishing, keep the weekend of February 12-14 on your calendars for the EelPout Festival on Leech Lake in Walker. The Bikini Ice Fishing Team will be making an appearance for the third year in a row.

Personally I would have chosen Flannery over Waldvogel...Flannery got 100 vs SJU D and Fritz did not exactly stuff the stat line and take out the stats vs MAC and Augy and NWestern and things get a little tamer...

I also thought Stanton should have been on the 1st team...

Johnnie fans don't sleep for the winter.  They go ice fishing.   ;)
Or discuss hockey! ;)

Beer drinking seems to be quite popular as well.  :D

Johnnie Red,

You go to Leech Lake? I've been a regular attendee at Moondance Jam for several years now. I think I may have to see what this Bikini Ice Fishing Team is all about.

Haters, SJU Rubes, Raider Guy, et al,

Get your clicker fingers ready for some Benchwarmer smite.

Ahem...Where I am very impressed with Mt. Union's ability to lower their admissions standards so low that they can actually take the football players that can't hack it academically at Ohio St. I do not feel they are a better team than Whitewater this year. In addition, it is a fact that President William McKinley enjoyed his matriculation at Allegheny exponentially more than his time at Mt. Union. As it was documented in a letter to his parents: "Dearest Mother and Father, Alliance sucks and smells like hot dog water. I am transferring to Allegheny and then fighting in what is sure to be a bloody Civil War because it sucks so bad. Your Son, William." If you feel slighted by these comments I will say I should have started Pierre Garcon over Steve Breaston yesterday.

Other than that, it should be pointed out that everything Linfield, SJU, Mt. Union and Whitewater have done in the last decade really doesn't have anything to do with 2009. You can continue to congratulate yourself on your past successes and continue to say, "Whatever, you guys make the playoffs for the first time in 19 years so you think you can brag" as much as you want. But the fact remains the same: SJU turned the ball over a billion times and lost. UST scored a bunch and won. SJU's season is done. UST's is not. That sucks for you and I'm sorry. But not really.

UST may win on Saturday, they may lose. They may lose to Linfield or Mary Hardin Baylor or win. They may go to Whitewater and get pounded by 30. Doesn't matter. Because in 2010, if SJU goes further in the playoffs than UST I'm not going to say, "Whatever, we made it farther than you in 2009."

Wow... I guess I don't know who should've gotten the MVP, but that line is pretty tame in conference.  I guess he was a gamebreaker and coaches gave it to him for that.  If Bethel has one more win, Flannery probably gets the nod.

I would like to point out that Cornish got 2nd team.  I rest my case.

I personally would have gone with Wartman over Waldvogel as well, though if I remember correctly you can only nominate one player per team for MVP.

Noticeably missing from the first team All-Conference list: Tim Cornish.  Nice call K.

Probably hurt Flannery that he only had 2 rushing TDs in conference this year and wasn't really a receiving threat out of the backfield.

So many topics to discuss....

I will not be jumping on the USTd wagon for the balance of their season.  Good for them that they were able to beat the perennial powerhouse Monmouth and double their all-time playoff wins to 2 (the last one being nearly 20 years ago when I was playing).  They will likely win again this week if Boyle is unable to go for Coe, but will have a rude awakening with the winner of MHB and Linfield.

If I have learned one thing over the years playing, coaching and following D3 football is that respect and admiration (especially in the playoffs) is earned over multiple games and seasons.  That is a major reason so many SJU fans and former players back teams like Linfield, UWWW and Mount Union once the SJU season is over.  There are few things as impressive as consistent, sustained success in college football and nothing as hard to accomplish.  Ask Linfield how hard it has been to get back after the National Championship or even Bethel two years removed from the West Region Championship...

In terms of how SJU's season ended......too many bad memories when we can't hold on to the GD football; either on offense or defense.  If the young players that experienced the taste of that kind of a loss can commit themselves to getting faster, stronger and more mentally tough over the off season I have all the confidence in the world that next year's team won't be finished playing in November.  Maybe this type of loss creates the HUNGER and SWAGGER of old.........

Hopefully off-season work will also help prevent playing playoff games with a Mash ward.  This team seemed to be put together with duct tape, Elmer's glue, popsicle sticks and Tylenol.

Congratulations to the seniors that finished their careers....it was a pleasure to have you uphold the Unrivaled Tradition that is SJU Football.

BTW- The only good thing to ever come out of USTd is Vince Flynn and his books....too bad one of my old teammates doesn't have his boss read a few of them.

USTBench, I made a mistake on the weekend for the EelPout Festival. It is the weekend of February 19-21. I know you would enjoy the bikini ice fishing team. They perform in a tent on a stage close to Leech Lake in Walker. Always nice seeing bikinied dancers in the middle of winter. ;D

Some of my siblings go to Moondance Jam. Sounds like that is a blast. Our family has lake property by Longville, so it is a short trip for the Jam and the Pout Festival.

First off, to those SJU Redlands fans that feels the need to bitch and yell loudly everytime a penalty is called on SJU Redlands, grow up.  The refs are doing their job.  They may make a mistake or two, but there is no way they screw up nearly as much as you may think, and there is a good chance that SJU Redlands has committed the called infraction.  Perhaps they may have a better vantage point and understanding of the rules than you do...just maybe
Hey -- good point. You could replace SJU with any team's name and there would be a lot of fans that would fit the description.

Hey, the Guru is right!

Insofar as those St. John's fans who can't or won't root for their archrival St. Thomas this week, I must wholeheartedly agree:

If Redlands were playing a team with a backfield of Hitler, Stalin, and Robespierre, starting wideouts of Pol Pot and Idi Amin, and coached by Osama bin Laden, I'd have to sit that one out.

There's some newbies that are doing some bragging, but maybe I should start.

I'm trying to hold my tongue Bench, my thinking is, after the few whiners realize the season is over for them they'll just crawl back into their little johnnie hole & sleep for the winter?

Let Us Pray...

Please Winter, what is it you are holding your tongue about? You make the playoffs for the first time in what 10 years and you win a game. Please enlighten us about the vast insights you have on Tommy playoff experiences and success. Let's just say when you have a couple playoff appearances under your belt and win a couple of games maybe then you will have something to say that means something. My guess is you will not be far behind climbing into that winter hole as well.  At least the Johnnies need more than one finger to count their playoff success in the last decade.

Enlighten on :o

You are not a typical Johnnie its pretty obvious. You & 3 of your cohorts are consistanly living in the past, you feel you have some sort of "right " to bash anyone other than your beloved Johnnies. Well, Give it up! You don't!

I think if you look all the way back thru the posts you will NOT find a comment by me that gloats, brags, stuts and/or overstep my bounds as a Tommie fan. If you can, show me, If your right I'll kiss your fat ass on the steps of the State Capitol & give you two days beforehand to draw a crowd.

You Guys LOST, GET OVER IT... I don't need a couple of playoff games under my belt to vist the boards & cheer for my team! You however have no vested interest nor horse in the race. Go Away!!!
