Dude love your handle...quality product there +K...adding Notre Dame in football would bring down the Big 10...I mean really when was the last time they were relevant in college football?  20 years ago?   I never want to hear "wake up the echoes" again, they are dead and buried no one under 40 has a clue what the hell they are talking about...

VOJ - I thought (?) I was reading an WIACer post about SJU there.

Here is the difference...a National Championship in 2003, Stagg Bowl appearance in 2000 and many runs to either the National Quarterfinals or National Semi-finals in this decade...oh and a few less head coaching hiring mistakes...
.............. considering that I believe Frank Leahy was coach at Notre Dame when John was hired  ;)

As to ND. I don't disagree about $$ from the Big 10. The problem is, ND is as proud as they come and they fully expect to return to form. And a return to form means they expect to be competing in BCS bowls year in and year out. If they aren't part of a conference, that payout is all theirs. If they're part of the Big 10 they are actually less likely to get those at large bids given the current criteria and then they have to share the proceeds. For the record, I think ND's best interest is joining the Big 10. From every angle, financially, academically and publicity (given that unless Kelly turns the ship fast NBC will likely be out) they would be better off and more stable as part of the conference, as recent years are revealing. The problem here is that ND doesn't realize this and is probably too proud to figure it out until it's too late.

FYI, on the BCS payout, it was adjusted a few years back so that if (ever again) ND is in a BCS bowl, they get about 40% of what a conference team would get (e.g., $4M instead of $10M).

Speaking as an alum, I have no interest in joining the Big 10.  However, events could eventually push them into a conference for football, as it did in basketball, and the Big 10 would be a logical choice.  If they're already at 12 teams, however, the inn might be full.

Gee, VOJ, I'm sensing some static in your broadcast; some unresolved issues perhaps.  If ND starts winning, things will turn on a dime and you'll be surprised how quickly things you thought were dead and buried rise again.  But they have to start winning.

Tmert...tune this in loud and clear...I don't like Notre Dame, probably never will, when it was Catholics vs Convicts I supported the Convicts every day and twice on Sunday...

College football is better when ND is winning its gives the haters something worthwhile to hate...

Good to know. And good point about the inn being full. What happens if ND can't return to form, NBC bows out of the deal and the Big 10 already has as 12th team. ND might be left standing out in the cold wishing they'd made the jump sooner...

FWIW, an article arguing ND needs the Big 10 more than the Big 10 needs ND: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/chi-18-haugh-notre-dame-dec18,0,6241081.column

D O.C.

You poor guys.

This is one time of the year the BCS for DIII would help because you guys would have been invited to one of the top bowls and had something concrete to talk about.   ;D

Happy Holidays and Blessings in your travels.

The author of that article used to be a writer for the South Bend Tribune during the Bob Davie and early Willingham years.  He never understood, or even seemed to like, Notre Dame then, so this article is no surprise.  Personally, I don't think there's one chance in ten that Notre Dame would join the Big 10.  Probably better that they go ahead and fill the 12th spot to take the subject off the table.

Here's a response to the Tribune article from a ND alum:

If anyone missed the 1-AA championship game they missed a very impressive performance by a guy named Szczur.  Also, a very impressive individual.
