Well it's good that at least we aren't throwing rumors around like nickels here. :-\

I heard the Texas Tech chancellor, who actually sounded pretty much like a normal human being rather than a snooty academic. He said that he never saw anyone who was so beligerant when someone was trying to help him, when talking about Leach. To me, it sounded like he would have been satisfied if Leach would have made nicey nice, and everyone could have been able to get along. In the end, he said he had no choice since Leach was being such an a-hole. My word not his, but that was the gist.

You certainly fell for the TT PR blitz.  As a start, you might want to go back and actually quote what the chancellor said - which isn't much, but he certainly didn't use either belligerent, which even he apparently knows would be over the line.  One of my partners knows a guy who was on the athletic board at TT.  When the TT chancellor and athletic director wanted to hire Bobby Knight, they told this guy how they expected him to vote.  He didn't vote the way they wanted, and a day later he was no longer on the athletic board.  But feel free to fall in line with the TT story if you want.  I'm sure they're nice reasonable guys.

And maybe Craig James gave Freebird his bathroom pass or something, but he's been a true ESPN know-nothing for years.

I bet it went like this...

Day 1...
Leach:  You little ****.   Why are you showing up for practice in civies and sunglasses, even if you are injured?

James:  I'm in sunglasses because bright lights will hurt my concussion.

Leach:  You little ****.  Sit in the shed if the bright lights hurt your eyes.  I'm tired of your prima dona ways and your a-hole father.

Day 2...
Leach:  You little ****.  Nice uniform.  Love the sunnies.  Go sit in the ****'* shed.

Trainer:  This ain't right.  Go sit in the media room.

James:  My daddy ain't gonna like this.

Day 3...
The world discovers that coaches can be a-holes and players can be prima dona's and parents can be a-holes to boot.  Surprise.

Moral of the story?  Send your football loving kids to SJU where they can play for Gagliardi.

What type of place do you live in that you still use a bathroom pass?  I would contend he provides better than average color analysis and mixes things up well with Fowler and Palmer in the booth.

However this will certainly damage his credibility and if there is solid evidence of wrong doing on his part then given espn's recent trend of firings it wouldn't be that surprising to see him moved from his current position.

Bennie,

Too bad about your Ducks. I watched the game with a Ducks fan. He was going on & on about the number of uniform combinations the Ducks have, and that the combination they wore yesterday were the best combo.....

I guess they chose their "best looking" uniforms vs. their "luckiest" uniforms  :-[

Still, far and away a better showing than the Golden Rodents
Hey at least no one threw any punches! ;) I'm not positive, but when they were interviewing Jim Tressel after the game, I could have sworn I saw Austin Murphy behind him. I kept thinking I know that guy from somewhere and then it hit me. It was a nice little "Johnnie fans are everywhere" moment! ;D

Bennie, I too saw Austin Murphy standing behind Tressel.  Looked like he needed a hair cut.

I have no dog in this fight. I haven't listened to Craig James enough to give an opinion on his insight. I guess that means he is neither great nor horrible, or I think I would have noticed. I didn't quote the chancellor because I heard him while on the treadmill, and didn't have my reporter's notebook, only tried to convey the tone of his comments. Going by the comments of players and Asst Coaches there seems to be two camps regarding Leach.

1.) He's a good coach, but he's an a$$hole.

2.) He's an a$$hole.

Again, I don't really give a rat's keister about it, just saying what I've heard. I haven't fallen for anything yet.

I would echo retegent's recollection of the chancellor's comments, but I would be willing to bet those comments weren't written by the chancellor. Like tmerton said, part of the TT PR machine.

Not sure what happened in this whole mess, but I liked the comment from Lou Holtz following the TT chancellor comments. It was something like "I always felt as the head football coach it was my job to please the president, not the president's job to please me." My guess is that's the trap that caught Leach. A good lesson for every football coach out there--you're never bigger than the institution in the long haul. You may be in the short term until you have a losing season/stop winning (see Bowden, Bobby vs. FSU).

SID,
Would be interesting to get Ramler's take since he visited Lubbock not so long ago. ....

You may be a James loving groupie wannabe, but I'm still looking forward to showing you a good time.  Just don't complain to daddy when I lock you in a shed.

Give my mobile (cell phone for you US residents) a ring when you arrive.  You should have the number (starts 0404) but if you don't then send me an email at work and I'll send it to you,

Would anyone like to see Leach as the head coach of the gopher football program?

I would just like to see someone actually coach as a head coach for the goophers.  We've got lots of sheds in Minnesota.  I reckon Leach would do just fine.

Nope.

Brewster is going to get an extension, so there are a couple more years to look forward to the Insight Bowl with a 6-6 (2-6 in Big Ten) record........

I truly feel there will be someone who will be in the mold of Tubby Smith who will be available when Brewster finally gets fired. Perhaps, when a Tubby like football coach become available, this will trigger a Brewster firing. I just don't feel Leach is that guy.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
