bennie,
Just for your viewing. I saw it as it happened so can't watch again.  8-)

I will admit that I am becoming less and less of an Ovechkin fan. I am getting to the point where I think if you seriously injure an opponent with a careless play (a push from behind, while going at a good clip, five feet from the boards qualifies), you should be out for the same amount of time as the injured player. "It was not a hard hit," Ovechkin said. "I just wanted to push him." Campbell has a broken clavicle and ribs. Me thinks that result takes more than a little love pat... I still don't like Crosby though! :P

Just read somewhere (Puck Daddy maybe) that Alex is not subject to automatic suspension since his last two thuggeries were over 40 days ago and the slate was wiped clean. I think I used to use Confession like that when I was a lad.  :P

The rules are a little complex regarding that 40 days. I think it's 41 games (half a season.)

In defense of Ovechkin, and I agree with the league's wording of "reckless", the injury was more of a bad combination of events, than the violence of the "hit" It looked to me like Campbell was trying to brace himself, and as he was raising his right skate to get into a wider stance, that is when the shove put his skate back on the ice, off balance, and caught in the ice causing him to topple. Not a good outcome, but later in the game, Semin was hit directly from behind into the boards much more violently, face first, but was not hurt and no penalty was called. Which was the worse hit? Also I won't revisit Dan Boyle's slue foot on Semin in the Olympics, except to say it was a premeditated attempt to injure, and hardly anyone knows about it, and Boyle is not tainted.

In regard to the thought that a player should be out as long as the injured player what if someone who has had a series of concussions, gets a relatively mild check, suffers a career ending concussion. Should the latest offender be banished for life? How about all the hitters who caused concussions in the past. Bottom line, hockey is a violent sport, and there will be injuries. Watch a few games, and you will see worse hits than Ovechkin's every game where no penalty is called. Or incidents like the Matt Cooke/ Marc Savard debacle where no punishment was meted out.

Sorry, but at least Ovechkin hasn't dropped his gloves and attacked another unsuspecting center in the face-off circle with no warning, a la Sid The Kid. His questionable hits have all been bang-bang plays in the flow of a fast moving game that were only inches from being legal hits.

Hitler played hockey.

Eva Braun and her girlfriends had a Saturday afternoon league.  They played tough.  No masks.

I agree with Adolf - but I'm off the Wopper for a while, too.

BTW, today's USA Today has a front page article in the "Money" section on real estate in St. Cloud - and a nice picture of Fins' house. 8-)

Hey tmert, are you familiar with this Gunnar Sandberg kid?  Hope things work out for him.  Yikes.

Very familiar with the incident; it's getting a lot of attention.  The coma was induced to protect the young man and medically he's "stable" but right now it's just a wait and see situation.  They played a game yesterday and both teams used wood bats, which was a nice show of support.  The school is #13's alma mater.

57 & Retagent,
Did you guys see this quote?

"I just know there was no malice intended," Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau said. "He didn't go to hurt him. He went to hit him, and he hit him, but the hit didn't cause the damage. The boards caused the damage."

Um...the hit pushed him into the boards. The boards didn't jump out and get Campbell. What a silly statement... :P

...and he prefers Burger King to McDonald's.

Ha!  Of all the Hitler vids I have seen, that is the best.  It even surpasses the original 'Hitler hates the Flyers' video.

The nonsensical subtlety of this is classic.  Particularly impressive is that the theme is maintained for 3 1/2 minutes across multiple scenes.  Too good.

Wormy Lickspittle #1: Steiner, you need to go back to town.

Steiner: Ey up chaps.  Oh for f**** sake, what does he want?  I just got back.  I've got me fags, light bulbs and pens, so I'm sorted.

Wormy Lickspittle #2: Look, he wants Burger King, and he's in a bit of a rant about it.  [Classic blank stare on Steiner's face]  If you want to tell him that he should be happy with Eva Braun's crappy scones, you tell him.
