Fins;

When I was back in October and witnessed a spectacular Johnnie victory over the Tommies (despite the assurances from Barney as to the miserable state of Johnnie football), I watched a bit of Dish Network at my folk's place.  Plenty of variety and the interface was ok.  I noticed that at least 80% of the adds were for issues concerning manly performance.  I don't know how that compares to other distribution networks, but if a guy has trouble standing at attention, so to speak, he'll either be mighty grateful for all the options presented or particularly depressed by the unceasing negative reinforcement.

I am keeping my own reactions private, thank you very much.

Had Dishnetwork before moving.  Best thing was they had a Duel DVR Box.  Could record something in the Living Room and watch it in the Bedroom.  I don't know if other providers have added that feature yet.  One downfall is that you could only watch/record two shows at one time so if you were recording two shows, you had to watch one of them or something else that was previously recorded.

I hate that now I have Brighthouse Cable which doesn't offer the NFL Network.

I've had both Dish Network and DirecTV. Not all that much difference between the two. I have DirecTV now, and the options in programming, and Hi Def are pretty good. They have become a little complacent in that they don't have to give you much e.g. second Hi Def Video Recorder, without charging about two bills, so get what you can up front when they usually have free install and a few carrots to get you with them. I recommend their Sports Pack that has most local sports channels (Fox Sports. Comcast Sports, as well as ESPNU and CBS College) It's $10/month and well worth it.

You often hear about weather cutoffs, and it does happen, but usually these are short lived, and probably don't add up to the Cable breakdowns which tend to last longer. I have, on occasion, had to de-snow my satellite dish when snow is on it. Very heavy rain storms also interrupt, but again, usually for short times - less than 1/2 hour or so.

direct no doubt. Charter sucks, but they do have the best internet by twice.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

What he said, except replace Charter with Comcast.

Snow? :o

I've been thinking about the move from cable but have stuck with it for the internet and out of complacency.  One of my friends has Direct at home and Dish at his weekend place and doesn't seem to see much difference.  I used to understand that Dish was lite on sports channels but if that's no longer the case I'd be curious as to why Duff and Flash prefer Direct.  I don't believe Direct has Versus, which I regard as a negative; does Dish?

When's JohnnieFootball coming back online for 2010?  No spring practice reports?

DirectV has Versus but you have to have one of the expanded sports packages to get it.  I've had DirectV for four or five years and have been very satisfied.  I haven't had any equipment problems and have lost service on very few occassions related to weather systems.  After time it tends to get somewhat pricey but you just call them up, threatened to switch to Disch, and you can get a lower rate.  I've done it twice myself and I know several other people who have done it as well.

fins, if you do decide to go to DirectV let me know and I'll send you a referral coupon that could save both of us $100.  :D  You can PM or email me with your address.

Seems that Direct TV is the leader here. Even Mr. President weighed in via text, saying it's a no-brainer for Direct TV. But I think that must have something to do with them carrying the Oxygen channel.

BadgerWH: check your email. Thanks!

And karma as far as I can reach. (usually just short of my wallet)

It was dropped for a while due to pricing conflicts with Comcast, but Versus is back on DirecTV now.  I don't have any expanded sports package and I get it.

I guess I should have thought of the referral deal before BW, so we could keep it in the Johnnie family, but kudos to BW for being on the ball, and a Capitalist to boot.  My hats off to you badgerwarhawk. That's what I get for being a Chem Major, and not taking any Econ. :-\

Big article by Frank at the SC Times on Johnnie recruiting.

So how is the list shaping up?  Anyone got some feedback on these players?
