The only reason one should approach Garrison Keillor is to slap some sense into his monotonous being.

I find Keillor to be quite a bore at times as well, but years ago I purchased a four CD set (four seasons, if I remember correctly) of Lake Wobegone stories and I love that thing.

Whenever the wife and I are back and driving to SJU for a visit, we start talking about Johnny Torvelson on his way to visit SCSU before his freshman year.  "Oh, Johnny, wouldya look at dat?" his grandma would say.  And he was crammed into the seat next to his uncle, Senator K. Torvelson (his mom named him Senator because she thought it sounded important).  Johnny was all embarrassed that the the city folk in St Cloud would recognize them for the country folk they were.  Too good.

And my all time favorite is one about Flag Day where all the people dress up in red, white, and blue hats and make a giant flag on mainstreet.  Of course, they are forced to go on top of the Five & Dime one at a time to look at it.  This continues until the last person, a little granny, says, "Oh, nooo.  I don' need ta see da flag."  I could swear he must have just finished talking to my grandma when he dreamt up that story.

What, he's dissed hockey or revenue agents?  Bad Garrison.

Birthday wishes to finsleft, I hope you don't have to act your age today.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Ditto.  And there's no way he's that old yet.

"A Fairly Good Place For Quite Some Time" - This is the business motto of the place where we'll be going on Sunday after the SJU graduation ceremonies.  Hard to resist, don't you think?  ::)

Tmert, Hope to see you on Sunday! Sum jr. will be taking part in the ceremonies as well!!
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

Thank you for the wishes and congrats to the grads!
I will be celebrating in grand style as I drive down to "da cities" and meet my boys (or 2/3rds of them) for dinner, followed by my 11 yr. old nephew's baseball game in St. Louis Park.
Maybe a Hamm's or 2 tomorrow night? The game'll be on in the gee-rodge and I'll be serving hot dogs, chips and peanuts. Stop on over...

This must leave Gags feeling pretty good about Jimmy's chances of taking over in a few years.

Thoughts???

In any job search, connections and "who you know" never hurts. But I know John Haws personally, and I can't imagine there were any better qualified individuals for that position. He has lived and breathed soccer since he was born, and is passionate about the sport. He also went to SJU and is passionate about SJU. But beyond the legacy, he's really a good guy. The school's lucky to have a guy like John.

Quite the Haws coaching legacy at SJU!  My dad was coached by Terry and was actually with him when he passed away at the National Catholic College Wrestling Championships in 1973.  Pat coached at SJU forever, and now John has taken over the reigns.  Three generations coaching at one school--that can't happen all that often.

A tradition unrivaled...

P.S. you are assuming that Jimmy taking over would make Gags feel good? Maybe he'll feel good enough knowing that his kid has a decent job over the years and another person takes over? I don't know either way, I'm just sayin...

Since I have great admiration for Oz, and in deference to his opinion, I will reevaluate Garrison Keilor. Since we're all above average, and all.

I thought this sounded real good when you posted it yesterday fins, but you might want to have some rain checks available for tonight's gee-rodge festivities.  :(

I'm not here to talk about the past, but how long until we hear about Snoop having had lunch with Dallas Braden?
Everyday is payday in paradise.

I just read an article on nfl.com about Favre's likely return.  Boring as hell until the part about if Favre doesn't return then Jackson will do just fine.

That's why the Vikes aren't getting a new stadium (aside from the recession, of course).  Despite all the moves to get great players and pay the money needed to assemble a properly good team, Childress continues to flub on the quarterback question like a fourth chair clarinet band member working the hot chicks.  It's as if he has no clue at all.

If the Vikings go with Jackson this year, I'll be forced to take up cricket for a season just to have something to watch on the TV.
