I'm baaaaaack.

Thanks, Pat.  I'll avoid jumping onto any two-bit free network in this town and then trying to log into here.  The hotel is working OK so that'll do me.

On one of the local newscasts last weekend, I happened to catch one of the Red Bull Flugtag entrants during takeoff with an "SJU" logo on the front. Did anyone see that or know who the brave lads were from alma mater?

Clearly no aeronautical engineers were involved - looks like some hockey players. 8-)

Good link, tmerts. It was definitely a hockey theme - pretty cool.

Looks like I'm gonna have to break down and buy my #21 Twins jersey.

Their bio:

QuoteTEAM NAME: Two Minutes for Flying
HOME HANGAR: Hastings, MN
PILOT: Andrew Einhaus
FLIGHT CREW: Michael Conzemius, Jake Budde, Alex Nicholas, Adam Sheldon, Kyle Stark
ITINERARY: The guys on Two Minutes for Flying are ready for their close‐up. Posting on
the team's Facebook page, pilot Andrew Einhaus caps a list of "mandatory team
workout" exercises with "50 push‐ups to develop glistening pecs for interview
purposes." Although captain Michael Conzemius declines comment on the current state
of his squad's pectoral muscles, he does share Andrew's belief in the importance of
crowd‐pleasing charisma. The skipper says that he expects to win over the Harriet
Island audience with "pre‐flight interviews, interaction with the crowd and our skit."
In the unlikely event that a competing team exhibits a greater degree of animal
magnetism, these six graduates from St. John's University have a solid back‐up plan.
"Minnesota is commonly referred to as the 'State of Hockey,'" Michael explains. "So, it
was fitting to create a craft that (builds on) the theme." The team will pay homage to
the "coolest game on earth" by creating a craft inspired by hockey's penalty box, where
scofflaws routinely spend two minutes for hooking, roughing and other minor offenses.
Should their machine stay true to its name and remain aloft for 120 seconds, Two
Minutes for Flying will enter the Red Bull Flugtag record books in a major way.

MIAC'ers.

I just found my latest Twitter Favorite.  Ray Grant from Hamline.  He has something to say to the MIAC this year.

www.twitter.com/RayGrant15

-@d3football Mark my words, I'm a receiver at Hamline University and we hope to see Williamette in the playoffs. They WILL NOT DEFEAT us.

-@D3Keith We're out to prove something big this season. We're returning every starter on both side of the ball excluding 1.

-@D3Keith People look at us on paper and the conference we're in count us out. Thats about to change.

-@D3Keith Yessir. We were quite inexperienced last year. There's going to be a rumble in the MIAC.

...Trust me Ray..I marked down your words.

Solid content Tmert, Duff, Fins & WC11.
WC11 -I have just now circled Nov. 13,2010 on my calendar  :o
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Well, 105, at least he's excited about the season!

Hamline's last five games are

USTD
@ Concordia
St. Olaf
Bethel
@ SJU

Assuming Mr. Grant can still walk by the time the Pipers get to SJU on 11/13, I'm sure he'll get a nice reception.  He'll sure figure out by then that he's not home in Florida. 8-)

Haven't posted all summer, but hockey's over (my Caps got run over by a lesser team, but that's not the point) I'm playing golf with one time USGA Rules guru Tom Meeks on Sunday and Monday. Anybody got any questions for him?

faunch

Mr. Grant (Hamline Piper via Fla)
Hamline lost to UST by 53 in what was probably a run-up score.
Hamline lost to SJU by 34 in a game that the Johnnies eased up and could have pounded you be 50 except they were playing UST the next week and didn't want to expend too much energy or show to much to the Tommies.
I'm sure the Pipers have improved some, however the Toms and the Jays will most likely still have enough firepower to handle the boys from Snelling Ave.

Bragging Pipers?  Gimme a break.  Is this like that Auggie transfer a few years back that was spouting off about how good he was before the season even started?
