While we're at it, why didn't the Cobbs utilize the field turf installation to tear up the track and put the field closer to the stands?  Did they even bother charging admission to the tens of people who came to the single outdoor track meet last year?  Seems to me that Moorhead has plenty of flat land in which to move the soccer and track facilities to.

Who charges admission for track meets?  Or any sport for that matter?

Since my last link was such a success, based on the instant karma hit I took, I'm going to try another one. Lord knows none of us could ever get sick of Hoag, right?  ::)

As an aside, the guy is now 30 (31?) years old and playing for an expansion UFL team. He said he was going to try to make it to the NFL for 3 years and then go to his dream job — teaching. That was 7.5 years ago. Whoops!
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Hamline, and what country do you live in where they don't charge admission for college football games?

+k    I think I'd take Hoag over Javon Walker though.

Carleton doesn't charge admission for any non-championship sporting events.  It's free and still no one shows up.

It is a "no go" for the Vikings cheerleaders for the Tommie game on October 2. I would imagine they were probably concerned about wearing purple and being associated with UST(D). ;D

I had a nice visit with Terri Traen from KQRS last Saturday at the state baseball tournament in Bird Island. Her son plays for Loretto. If her schedule permits, she will try to make it to a Johnnie game this fall and the Stiftungsfestivities.

Speaking of the Stiftungsfest celebration, it is this weekend in Norwood Young America. Try to make it if you can. Hairball is playing Friday night. That band rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone have an extra ticket for the Lady Gaga concerts this coming week at the Xcel Center in St. Paul?

I went to a few outdoor track meets last season and was supposed to pay, but it's very easy to sneak in.  Whether there is a track separating the football field from the stands or not you are about the same distance from the field of play.  Why would you tear up a perfectly good track anyway?  I also realize that concordia made a bad decision to put up to date field turf down for a football field.  Looking at the pictures of Northwestern's field it looks like someones back year because there is a fence around it and a house in the background.  Awesome!

Dear JJR,

Stiftungsfestivities weekend. You are in heaven, my friend. Don't ruin it by going to a Lady Gaga concert. If I had a ticket I'd pay you to take it. She's no Paris Hilton.  :P

Dear Cobbernation,

For your soul to go to heaven, you must mail in your track meet ticket money to the institutions you blew the gate on. Not paying is wrong, unless it's to a Lady Gaga concert, where I don't know why anyone would want to sneek in.

I would suggest you take a visit down to the new Hollingsworth field in St. Peter if you have not already done so, then you can report back with your findings about whether the field is closer to the stands than up in cobber land.  For that matter get a seat in the upper deck of tcf bank stadium and you'll be closer to the field than half of the seats at the Jake.  Despite having a track team and no outdoor track, st. cloud state didn't put one around their new field.  Maybe that was a little foresight in case they follow through and eliminate the track team but still.  as for Northwestern's field, are you maybe looking at pictures of the iowa northwestern's field?   If you are looking at the field, you're probably seeing the concession stand or maintenance building, not a house.  In terms of places to watch college football in Minnesota, I think Concordia would rate pretty low.  Field turf doesn't help much.

Just got my first chance to peruse Kickoff 2010.

Very nice indeed.  8-)

Agreed.

I for one was shocked that there was not a feature done on Ray Grant, the self proclaimed star receiver from Hamline.

I think anyone who has been to the new stadium can agree that it is very nice (I would say it is the nicest facility in the MIAC), but I still don't understand how replacing the playing surface justifies ripping down the stadium, moving the stands 30 feet or so closer and building a new facility for you track team.

And really, the main reason watching a game at Concordia rates so low is that you have to go to Moorhead to do it.

BDB,

I sneek into the cobber track meets.  Trust me I am paying my fair share of "ticket money" aka loans to Concordia.

Gustavus' field is nice, however 5 yds behind the endzone is a nice brick wall to crash into after going all out for a catch.

AO,

What's up with St. Cloud St. not in the MIAC so I really don't care.  TCF is nice, but that's the gophers and again the Big Ten nothing to do with the MIAC.  Also, I am sure St. Johns fans would agree that turf doesn't help them win.  Remember the kicker from last year who would miss PAT, but could nail a 50 yarder for a win on turf.  Plus, St. Johns doesn't win too often on their home field and either does St. Thomas.  Are you kidding me?  However, I would say that concordia lost some home field advantage by putting in turf since they are a run first team and in muddy conditions can grind it out for wins.  Remember Concorida has been in the top 10 for attendance of football games in the past half decade, so it can't be that bad.  Agreed with washedup that a saturday drive from the cities to moorhead doesn't exactly rank high on my list for things to do on saturday's.

Oh, I don't know...  a little make up, explosive putty, and a jack-hammer might help some, I guess.
