Gustavus' field is nice, however 5 yds behind the endzone is a nice brick wall to crash into after going all out for a catch.

Hollingsworth (sp?) is beautiful, but I have to agree.  It's just a little too cozy.

A tradition unrivaled...

BDB,

I sneek into the cobber track meets.  Trust me I am paying my fair share of "ticket money" aka loans to Concordia.

Cobbernation, is it normal to have to pay to get in to a MIAC track meet?

I would think the chance of having a random javelin cruise missiling into your skull might be payment enough.  ;D

I think anyone who has been to the new stadium can agree that it is very nice (I would say it is the nicest facility in the MIAC), but I still don't understand how replacing the playing surface justifies ripping down the stadium, moving the stands 30 feet or so closer and building a new facility for you track team.

And really, the main reason watching a game at Concordia rates so low is that you have to go to Moorhead to do it.
Concordia is the rare stadium in the state with an equally large visitor stand, so you'd either give the other side even worse views or you would tear that one down and put in some new seating, but you certainly wouldn't have to tear down the home side to put the field turf closer.  It was obviously a much easier decision to get rid of the track for the national sports center in blaine as all of the permanent seating was on one side.

AO,

What's up with St. Cloud St. not in the MIAC so I really don't care.  TCF is nice, but that's the gophers and again the Big Ten nothing to do with the MIAC.  Also, I am sure St. Johns fans would agree that turf doesn't help them win.  Remember the kicker from last year who would miss PAT, but could nail a 50 yarder for a win on turf.  Plus, St. Johns doesn't win too often on their home field and either does St. Thomas.  Are you kidding me?  However, I would say that concordia lost some home field advantage by putting in turf since they are a run first team and in muddy conditions can grind it out for wins.  Remember Concorida has been in the top 10 for attendance of football games in the past half decade, so it can't be that bad.  Agreed with washedup that a saturday drive from the cities to moorhead doesn't exactly rank high on my list for things to do on saturday's.
What does being in the miac have to do with building 5000 seat football stadiums? The Jake has been around for nearly 50 years, it may be time for some more serious renovations.  Might make the trip to Moorhead a little more appealing.

Count me among the people who don't understand why Gustavus didn't allow a little more room behind the end zone, especially in the corners.  Seems more like a design flaw than a cost-cutting measure.

The appealing part is the smell of the sugar beet farms on a windy day and in moorhead it's windy everyday! ;D mmmmmm!

Mick's Office is the only real reason to go to Moorhead.

Johnnies nearly needed to find a new coach.

From Frank's SC Times blog:

Quote
There was a scary moment at practice Saturday when head coach John Gagliardi was knocked to the turf.
A deeply thrown ball during passing drills took receivers into an area where Gagliardi was watching another part of practice. But the 83-year-old got right back up and said he was doing OK afterward. He was even able to joke about it to his players after practice, warning the quarterbacks to keep from throwing the ball into other areas on the practice field, lest a starter get injured.

Unreported? Guy who threw the ball got cut.

Have to drop a flag here. :-\  The guy who threw the ball was not cut.

Touchdown Tommy

Touchdown T has to call an audible on his attendance for the opening day beatdown of Northwestern.  A 3 day business trip late next week takes me away from Collegeville (Denver/St. Louis/Phoenix).
