Hamline already did that years ago. If it happens, SJU will get on another roll and UST will certainly fall back to mediocrity.

Must be thrilling to roll a conference opponent and have fewer fans than a Wayzata high school game.

Ah faunch, the old fall back shot at attendance...has it gotten that bad for you guys? Grasping at straws there, buddy. That's the same argument Cubs fans go to when taking shots at Sox fans.

56 to 7...I was expecting a win, but wasn't expecting that.

So guys, going to be in Collegeville next weekend. Leaving at noon from Grand Forks Friday and staying in St. Cloud. I assume you'll all be in the south endzone per usual. TDT, I'm not stopping in Sauk Centre to get Hamms if you don't drink any. Also bringing 3 dudes that have never seen the rivalry in person. One is the director of media relations for UND athletics. Looking forward to seeing all you guys.

Didn't think the cobbers would do that bad against UST this weekend.  Looks like they were without their starting qb for the game for an injury.  Definately not the best place to play your first collegiate game at the #4 team in the nation.  Looks like horan tried a junior and freshman qb at times.

Fair point, but I put more merit on these types of statistics:

                                                     Con      UST
TOTAL OFFENSE YARDS...........      167      503
  Total offense plays.........            56       71
Average Gain Per Play.......         3.0      7.1

No, Wrigley Field is much, much nicer than the Cell and there are true baseball fans at Wrigley, that is the argument. That is like the same argument for SJU vs. UST, better stadium and knowledgeable  fans at SJU.

Willy Wonka

Wonka will be rolling in bright and early Saturday morning to test out the culinary spread for the first time this fall. Unfortunately, Frank "Johnnies Do Butts" Rickard is still too ashamed of his last visit to campus to join me.

Will Veek be so kind as to supply the Diet Dew again this weekend?
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

WashedUp

Carleton's homecoming game has been moved to Northfield's Memorial Field, next to Northfield High School.  Here is an update on the flooding:

"Wrigley Field is much, much nicer than the Cell" Who are you kidding? Has it been awhile since you've been? Place is literally falling apart.

As for the "true baseball fans" analogy, doesn't warrant more of a response than to say, whatever you've got to tell yourself, man.

I was there this year several times-It is way better than the Cell-Oh and it is a Landmark-the Cell-never.
And yes the true fans are at Wrigley-but if you want believe that fewer fans equal better fans-WOW.

As a Cubs fan, i might have to admit that the Cell is probably nicer...only b/c it's newer. But as far as which pall park i would rather watch a game in...nothing beats Wrigley.

Not sure I follow either argument. I think it has to do with sustained success over a long period of time. If UST was to become the football institution that SJU has been for 40+ years, games on campus would become a priority for the student body. 8400 for a Concordia game is unprecedented, anywhere in D3. I know there good fan bases: Linfield, Mount Union, etc. But one thing these schools have in common is great squads year in and year out. UST fans do have the reputation of being snooty and the SJU games is traditionally an excuse to socialize as the motto has been, "We don't care about football, we're just here to party and make off-color references about your sexual orientation." That being said, the culture is changing there, and where I don't ever see UST drawing 8400 for Concordia, I do think that drawing 4500 to 5000 people a game is realistic.

There was a great crowd against UWRF, which is normally the case for the opener, but this time it was different. I think people are starting to take notice a little more. We also have Goofer home games and the infinite amount of stuff to do in the Twin Citites to deal with as well. It may never have the draw that Collegeville does, but it has potential. (Renovating the grandstands would be huge as well)

Has what gotten that bad? The fact they're two-time defending conference champs or the 12 straight - and 16 out of 17 - wins over St. Thomas? Yes, the Tommies won two games last year in the playoffs and the Johnnies didn't. But if we're going by last year, how's that have more bearing on Saturday's game than the fact the Johnnies stuffed the St. Thomas offense for nearly the entire game last year until a few blunders gave the Tommies a shot? If we're making analogies to other sports that don't really make sense, it's more like Yankees and the Twins. Or, if you prefer, St. Thomas basketball against St. John's basketball.

Bethel has reason to brag or be arrogant before playing the Johnnies. St. Thomas? Not so much.

I don't think Johnnie fans will be at all surprised if the Tommies win Saturday. But you're making it sound like the Johnnies are facing Whitewater.

Not that the Tommies need to grasp for positives when talking about the recent past in the rivalry, but this is a note on the Tommies' website.

18 of the last 38 football games between St. Thomas and St. John's have been decided by seven or fewer points.

So they've got that going for them.

Bench: Relax.  Just tell em your with TDT on Saturday.  Just don't roll in (like you have in the past) with a Terdy of Hamm's on your shoulder.  That tends to draw the ire of the power hungry rent-a-cops...

Ok just scored 4 tickets for Game 2 of the ALDS next Thursday night likely against the hated Yankees.  Anybody wanna go?

ROR has seen a few of the Johnnie/Tommie shirts already (including purchased a few, much to the delight of his wife).  Perhaps he can fill us in on the debauchery...

Plans are being hatched for early arrival into Collegeville on Saturday morning to secure parking in tailgate lot.  Perhaps as early as 7am....

"Excuse me sir, why do you have a 30 pack of Hamm's on your shoulder?"

"Cuz I like to party...thought you knew."

Wrigley: Better ballpark.

Who exactly is making it sound like you're playing Whitewater? Haven't read any posts that should have you feeling that way, but it makes me happy to hear you are! That's exactly where my, 'has it gotten that bad' question comes from.

Don't mistake confidence as arrogance. While I have a healthy respect for the Johns football program, I like The Tommies odds.

Feel free to thump your chest about all your past bravado if it makes you feel better, but know that we're not concerned about your past.

Looking forward to Saturday!
