So guys, going to be in Collegeville next weekend. Leaving at noon from Grand Forks Friday and staying in St. Cloud. I assume you'll all be in the south endzone per usual. TDT, I'm not stopping in Sauk Centre to get Hamms if you don't drink any. Also bringing 3 dudes that have never seen the rivalry in person. One is the director of media relations for UND athletics. Looking forward to seeing all you guys.

Haha, he's far from brass. More like the guy that gets to upload the women's volleyball score at 10pm on a Friday night.

He's still working on making it as it's the women's hockey opener this weekend.
Bench-
As long as you're bringing the brass, why don't you drag Hakstol and his Irish Pa-in-law along, too? They each owe me a case of Hamm's and a fine cigar.

If you're going to be in the DC area, may I suggest a place for a good, inexpensive meal? There's a place called "El Pollo Rico" in Arlington, on Kenmore, just south of Wilson, near the Virginia Square Orange line Metro station. Not a very varied menu: !/4 chicken, 1/2 chicken or a whole chicken, with/or without fries and slaw. When I was last there about 5 years ago, it cost about $5.50 for the 1/4 with and a cola. It's Peruvian grilled chicken and is awesome. I actually believe it is listed in Zagat. If you go for lunch, get there before 11:30 or you'll be standing outside in line.

Second this. We just had EPR chicken from a Maryland branch last night. Be sure to get the yellow  and green sauces. We usually get the fried plantains as well  ... tremendous. One of the best bargain meals around. Prices haven't changed all that much. We got dinner for three for less than $25.

Really proud of the Carleton football team today.  Sure it was Hamline, but it was also the first dominant performance of the season.  Given all the factors working against the Knights this week, they easily could have packed it up for the season and mailed it in, but they responded to adversity with a great performance.  Ramler and Pagel had the team ready to play and did a great job of coaching.  The defense bounced back and the offense continued to produce.

Next week will be interesting, will Laird be ready to host a football game?  If not, where will the game be played?  Is this a one week show, or a sign of things to come for the Knights?  How many people will be at the SJU-UST game (I would think it would approach the record)?  Exciting week next week in the MIAC.

It was a good win, and one they needed. They're offense is coming together, and their defense finally started making plays. I know the rest of the schedule isn't Hamline, but I think this gives them a chance at getting some wins under their belt this season. It'll be interesting next week because Auggie Tech is a team that they should beat if they play well again.

I don't know what to think about the UST v SJU game...we'll learn if UST is as talented as they seem.

K, you gonna be at the game this week?

Can't make it, have a bachelor party Saturday night to go to. I'll likely be hitching a ride from Chicago on the 16th for the Olaf game.

Carleton's homecoming game has been moved to Northfield's Memorial Field, next to Northfield High School.  Here is an update on the flooding:

This is simply crazy. I hope that the students don't try anything like whitewater rafting!

Any thoughts on putting in field turf when the track is re-done?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I don't have any inside insight, but it would surprise me if Carleton put in field turf.  I never thought the field was in bad shape and it isn't a multi-use facility, as soccer and lacrosse have their own fields.  Also, field turf wouldn't have helped in this case and it may have been worse.  Carleton will already have to spend the money to replace the track and repair the other damage the flooding has caused.  It may well depend on how the field responds and if the turf needs to be replaced.  I have always been surprised at how well the field drains for being below the track, but this time might be a little different.

If Carleton does put in field turf, I would like to be the first one to endorse some maize-colored carpet.  As Eastern Washington has shown, grass doesn't necessarily need to be green or blue.

Ok here is the full culinary report for Veek's benefit.

Thurs:

Lunch at Elephant & Castle...decent open face turkey sammich with a thirst quenching lemonade
Dinner at Ella's Woodfired Pizza on 9th St.  Thought this was fantastic and tasted even better with a few ice cold Yuenglings on tap.  Lots of talent there for the Happy Hour!!!

Fri:
Dinner at the Nationals game.  Had a famous Ben's Chili Bowl chili dog.  Pretty outstanding if I do say so myself.  The original location on U Street is an institution...

Sat:
Lunch in Georgetown at Martin's Tavern sat in the booth where JFK proposed to Jackie Onassis.  Pretty tasty soft shell crab sammich.
Dinner at Legal Seafoods of Boston Mass fame.  Had an absolutely off the hook dish called the Louisiana Catfish Matrimony.  Hoping Veek will expand his tailgating menu to include this.  Catfish, shrimp, and Andouille sausage served with Jasmine rice and fresh green beans.  Pretty orgasmic.

Sun:
Dinner at Dulles.  Had the famous Five Guys burger.  Tasty but certainly not in the same hemisphere as In n Out in California.

Veek:  Please advise if you have further questions or concerns...

Thanks D.O.C.

Oh my good lord Eastern Washington, that turf is hideous.  I think that turf deserves a spot on Jim Rome's final burn.  If I was wittier, I'd try to think up some Jim Romeism's myself.  Alas, as I'm sure the Johnnie posters would be quick to point out, I'm only a Tommie.

Good catch (ha, ha).  Guess the folks down at Carleton aren't as smart as they'd like everyone to believe.

It would be nice if we had the option to hide members' posts similar to Facebook.  If I had that option I would not have to read posts like this one.  Who in the hell cares what you ate or where you ate it?  Having to read about your culinary escapades makes me sick.

Quite some time ago I believe.

Does anyone else have a problem with composing a message after you have quoted someone?  When I quote someone and attempt to add my message at the bottom the line that I am typing on keeps moving up and down a few lines with every keystroke.  When I type a character I immediately see it and then it disappears as I scroll up two or three lines.  This problem may have coincided with the new upgrade but I am not certain.

Pat, has anyone else reported having this problem?
