Pick'em's are up..

a couple of notes:  I put the line at 4.5 as I see the Tommies winning 24-21 on a late field goal, or 28-23 with the Johnnies kicking 3 field goals and a too little too late TD.

from Gene's blog over at tommiesports.com yesterday "St. John's doesn't permit live videocasts of football."  We had a discussion with VOJ less than a year ago, and he was under the impression that the radio contract did not prevent video webcasts, so maybe something has changed?  Or maybe the Johnnie administration is worried about losing attendance if they were to videocast?  Does this policy make sense to anyone?

My opinion on the video webcasts has a couple parts to it.
1.  I think there is a concern about a drop in attendance.
2.  I think John and the coaching staff are worried that it will allow teams to get additional scouting on them and are also worried that teams might have way to record the live stream.  I've got to believe that there is a way to record a live stream although I don't know if MIAC and other D3 teams would have software or technology to do it.
3.   I also believe that live video streams could be a fabulous marketing tool and revenue stream for SJU.  I gotta believe that people would pay up to $5 bucks to watch a game.

Again...these are only my opinions.

Hello everyone!  First post here.  I haven't seen St. Thomas play yet but I was at the St. John's game this Saturday to see them whip up on Augsburg.  My son attends Augsburg (freshman) and this was my first time ever seeing St. John's play.  They are a solid team.  I had my video camera and recorded the game.  If you weren't in attendance you can check out a couple of highlight videos I posted on my YouTube site...

Second Half Highlights

A friend of mine's son plays for St. Thomas and says they are pretty good.  It should be a good game this weekend.

It's very simple & economical to record a live video stream or web-based video content. As long as streaming media is not protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management), it can be done legally. I've use WM Recorder. It can be purchased for as little as $50 - I have the suite for $79 that allows me to record, convert, capture and split video for editing in a bundled package. There are many other software packages that cost as little as $30 that can simply capture the video. Many have demo versions available to download and get a taste for what you can do. I'm sure there is other software costing a bit more, but these do the trick.

There in summation is why SJU games are not streamed.

On a related note....I also believe we have not seen the best game out of SJU for a reason.  John, Jimmy, Jerry, and Gary have most likely not brought out the "big guns" against the likes of Nwstrn and Augsburg as well as UWEC and even CC.  I've heard it many times that John doesn't like to show much on film.

I would rather win than not show much. I bet teams like UWW and Mount don't care what opposing coaches see on video-it is all about stopping the plays and if you don't have the horses, doesn't matter how much film you have of ooposing team.

I suspect that's true, considering I can see a number of Mount Union games on television.

Wow. That's a rare bit of paranoia coming out of the Johnnie camp. I thought they were immune to such feelings.

Message to Jackass!  TC has your number.  Buck up and take it like a man.  I realize that is hard, or nearly impossible, for you to do but please try.
Go Johnnies!!!

I'm looking forward to storming SJU's field with the opposing crowd like your buddy Dinny and I did a few years back. I believe you even got a nice memento from us to commemorate the occasion, right Mr. Prez?  :-*

I'll be there with bells on. May even bring a notebook to jot down some choice quotes in the rare moments when I'm not stuffing my face.

Veek - You Diet Dew'd me last year for this showdown and your Johnnies were able to sneak one out in OT. I can't imagine you'd want to risk breaking tradition...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

1. Fact
2. Fact
3. See reason #2. The potential $3000 made from the video stream isn't worth letting the whole west region gain access to every single game come playoff time.

Not a whole lot to gain for the program to stream games. Some may call it paranoia, others call it being protective of the program.

1. It may be a fact that they're worried, but that doesn't mean that the actual result wouldn't be higher attendance.
2. The NCAA mandates that all playoff teams exchange high quality full length game film from the last three games from the sideline and the endzone.  It's also not very hard to make a call to any of the earlier games opponents to get those films as well.
3. I think the people famous for incessant ads over the pa at the game could find a way to make more than $3000 from a videocast.

Is this really relevant with the new digital video exchange system? My understanding is that basically every game is posted on the server for all coaches to access. I believe the one limiting factor is at the beginning of the season if your opponent has only played one game and you've played two, you only post one game on the server.

We used to record basketball games back when streaming first started. Then the basketball teams used this same digital server with every game posted to it, so there wasn't any reason to record them any more. I think now, in both football and basketball, there's so much footage that you could watch every game your opponent has played, if time allowed for it.
