In reply to the logic of the intercepted pass being a bad call, I commend the play call (not for the obvious reason). It's kind of like the MSU fake field goal vs. ND-if it works it's a great call, if it doesn't the oc/hc are goats.

The UST defense was most likely not expecting a pass in that situation, the SJU coaching staff was most definitely not comfortable with kicking the field goal from that distance, so why not throw a low risk, short route, sideline pattern in that scenario? I commend either one of the Gagliardi's who made the call-if it goes for 6 their genius. Either way, it shows stones.

Is there any scenario that you see Caruso going for a 2 pt. conversion after the Wartman ot td? Kicker had missed the last ep and a fg earlier-I thought they might. I realize conventional wisdom says you kick the ep and let your defense go win the game for you, but I wonder if it crossed his mind?

You're assuming the call on that play came in from the sidelines.

cobbernation

I attended the cobber homecoming game this past weekend and in a word "OUCH!"  Offense was flat, defense is young, inexperienced and it shows.  In 3 conference games the cobbs defense has allowed 40, 56 and 38 points.  It could be a tough road ahead for the cobbers.  I just don't understand how the cobbs could play the johnnies pretty tough on the road and get just owned by gustavus for homecoming.  The gusties running back probably had 150 yds + and made it look easy.  One thing might need change for the cobbs and it's pointing to the offensive formation.  The wing-T might have to go.  We have a good, young qb and decent receivers, I believe a pro style or spread offense might work better.   However, Micks Office is alive and well!

IF SJU beats BU, how could a BU defeat of the Tommies possibly be bad?  It might even give the Johnnies the AQ (depending on tie-break scenarios).  Remember that the polls have NOTHING (officially, at least) to do with playoff selection.  And who wins the Tommies/BU game will not in any way affect the SJU OWP or OOWP.  I can't figure your perceived downside.

If SJU, UST and BU all go 2-1 against each other and win out, the Johnnies are done. BU would get the AQ  as the team most removed from their last playoff appearance. UST would have only 1 loss, to an AQ playoff team and would be a very likely at large. SJU on the other hand would be the only team with two losses and it is very unlikely (it's only happened once) that a conference gets 3 teams in.

Now if they all split and BU and/or UST lose another game as well then it would be a different story. But unless SJU gets the AQ a lot of things will have to fall their way nationally to get an at large. But crazier things have happened.

I heard rumors of a PC-usTDT confrontation...have we heard the last of usTDT and Post Patterns???

I saw it, and I'm paraphrasing:

TDT: A hearty welcome to you and D3football.com
PC: Why thank you TDT
TDT: I know we disagree from time to time, but come, enjoy a bratwurst with me and let's discuss the keys to today's game.
PC: I would enjoy that.

I think that's about how it went. Some the details are a little fuzzy as I had a few adult beverages.

Thanks!  Just think how good they'll be when I get an HD video camera.  ;)

I thought TDT was more like Coach Kelly from Notre Dame and how he was talking to his players on the sidelines on Saturday night.

I was slightly hopped up on Veek's Diet Dew at the time (thanks again), but I don't think Bench is paraphrasing. That conversation belongs in direct quotes. I'm still not sure why ROR got involved before they could hug it out...

In other news, here's a quick piece I wrote with a video from Saturday's game. This video starts about 5 seconds after I denied a high-five from a Johnnie alum and got scolded for it...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

What the hell does this quote mean:  "Rightfully, as always, St. Thomas wins," Anderson said.

Also, it's the natural bowl, not the nature bowl.

Overall, a nicely done story.

You're suggesting TDPT was using the conversation to instill greater mental toughness and focus into PC? ???

Oh, was that what that was? I was just talking about the words he used-indicating that the brats and beer were really good.

A look at the Carleton football website reveals that their remaining home games are scheduled to be played at Northfield High.
