Robert Zimmerman

I agree completely with Sfury's long post (and not just because we were Greg House roomates), but I really liked his latest entry in his blog about devastating Johnnie football losses.  This helped me put Saturday's heartbreaking loss into perspective:

As much as that loss to UST sucked, I guarantee you that the players left it behind them by Sunday.  Time to focus on the Royals.  As much as I hate that glorified high school stadium, I suppose I will be there :(
I thought the game was in Arden Hills.  You can count me among the people disliking the high school feel of clemens with its track keeping everyone in the stands a healthy distance away from the field.

Just when I think maybe there's hope ...  :P

#1) No one cares about your opinion.

#2) Bethel's field is nice compared to Northwestern's.

#3) Better a track around the field than soccer lines on the field
1. Maybe you still are in high school?
2. I thought we were comparing Bethel and St. John's?
3. Agreed.  Though Northwestern does play about half their games without soccer lines as it isn't field turf and schedules differ between the sports.

Instead of building another story on the press box, why not tear up the track, put it around the soccer field, move the turf closer to the home side and build some substantial seating on the visitor side that can accomodate these 10,000+ games?  This clearly isn't the best johnnie team in recent memory but they still drew 16000 on Saturday.  A couple of upgrades can't hurt the recruiting everyone is complaining about on here.

To be fair, 6 of 9 MIAC stadiums have tracks around the field, and last time I checked, none shared a field with the baseball team.
The football field is shared with the softball team, the baseball field doubles as the football practice field, so it's the baseball field taking the brunt of the abuse here.  Keeps the grounds crew busy.  By the time Northwestern hosts a playoff game I would guess they'd have built a new stadium.  That is to say hopefully within 5 years.

1st: The track isn't that much of a distraction.
2nd:  It's a great location for the track as the surrounding trees and bowl most likely provide runners some relief from the wind.
3rd: It took about 100 years to get a track built at SJU..as early as the 1990's it was still a dirt track....no chance that it's moving.
4th: At least the staff in the SJU athletic department have the decency to bring in additional seating for big crowds.  Last time I was at a Bethel / SJU game I would guess that one-fourth to half of the crowd had a terrible seat or standing position to see the game.
5th: I would argue that with the hills, guest bleachers and student bleachers SJU has about the most seating in the league...in fact from D3Football.com  (don't you just love SJU coming in at 7482).

Interesting blog Shawn-the one thing I would say looking back on SJU stat leaders, is even in the not so good years, 2 defeats, they had young guys that made their the next year or after...Mayhew, Ramler, Loretz, Herbst.. on offense. Wagner, Novak, LaBore..on defense. Who is that next young star on this year's team? Who can carry SJU next year?

Pat Coleman

The 7,482 is without the extra temporary bleachers that were in place this weekend, for what it's worth.

How do the playoffs work in the MIAC?  Top two teams advance or do more advance than that?

Pat Coleman

There are no MIAC playoffs in football.

Here's the basics on the NCAA playoffs in football:

The BPD3 Level System Top 25 unveiled:

NOTE:
BPD3 Level System Top 25
To add to the intrigue and fun of the ranking system, I am creating "Levels" within the Top 25. In the "Level System", I will be grouping teams that are reasonably comparable in my opinion and exposing where I believe there is a drop-off of some kind between ranks.

Is there anyone "intruding" on Level 1 with UW-W and Mount Union?

Where do the "breaks" occur between levels?

Where do the Tommies land?

Is St. John's still part of the mix?

Hmmm ... six inches of sediment on the practice fields and they're mowing grass in the stadium?  No sediment there?  Any word yet on whether they'll play games there this year?

From what I have heard, they will not be playing there.  The field is in good shape, but there are no facilities around the stadium that could be used as a locker room or anything like that.  I could be wrong though, considering how fast the field is recovering.
