Is it possible to have a dscussion about the future of SJU football and the coaching staff without being considered a heretic?  Are there people of real influence close to this program who have a plan for the future or must the Emperor (no disrespect intended) be truly naked before the discussion commences?

I'm not exactly sure where you're going with this.  What do you want to discuss?  John's not going to retire till he's ready, and I think his job is pretty secure as far as the university goes.  I, along with the rest of the SJU faithful here, have no influence over the program.

that was touching, I cried at several points during the letter.  :'(

Before reading this, I was convinced our world was going in the tank, I am now confident the ship has been righted. Thank you Glenn Caruso, thank you UST fans, I will sleep better tonight  ::)

BlueandGold, you won the game, enjoy it, or is that not enough.  Even in the back of your mind, you are asking yourself, what if SJU doesn't turn the ball over and looking at UST and saying "oh my"

Was it only me or did others see Haugen sitting on the bench after the BU?  He looking like a dejected and demoralized man.

You mean Haugen wasn't grinning from ear-to-ear, rolling around on the grass in jubilation after dropping a game that eliminated the team from playoff consideration? He looked dejected? Yes, that makes no sense. Must be more to that story. Time for cryptic, cliched comments about emperors and people of influence. Are there people close to the program who have a plan for the future? I'm guessing yes. And I'm guessing the names include John, Jim, Gary and Jerry.

I am looking forward to when Jimmy G is leading the Johnnies onto the field!  ;D

When John G. is done coaching, I wouldn't be surprised if Tim Brewster takes over the Johnnie program.  Who would Johnnie fans like to see Jimmy G or Timmy B?

I agree John is not going anywhere until he is ready and I agree his job is safe for as long as he wants it.  In the land of the ideal, it would be comforting to know that there are at least the broad brush strokes of what a transition plan looks like if and when the time comes.

In the land of the practical, it is almost impossible (almost, but not impossible) to have that discussion, and yet with each passing day, the need grows and the question (from recruits at least) will only increase in volume.  Having been a part of that conversation once and the answer being less than satisfactory (from my perspective), I cannot imagine the situation improving.  And, here is and where the tide will turn.

In the end, I guess it is called tilting at windmills -- on my part that is.

Thinking the possibility of bethel and UST will be undefeated when they play on Oct. 23rd at ust, will the attendence break 2000 people?

Most of the Faithful have quit speculating since any prospects you can come up with will be too old to coach when John finally retires.  ;)

What exaclty is the question?

sfury,

I seemed to have touched a nerve and I wasn't even trying -- believe it or not.

Your sarcasm aside, yes, I thought it unusual for the D Coordinator to be sitting on the bench, as he was, regardless of the implications.  The group you mention should not decide what the future looks like once the head coach decides he is content.

Very sensible.  As noted, simply tilting.

The question is, why do you right this open letter? What is the purpose of it - it is just really weird.

On another note, attendance was 4,000 Saturday, I assume if both Bethel and UST are undefeated there will be 5,000 + at the game.
