BlueandGold.  I didn't say both were in the BU game.  The call on the one yard line covers the margin of loss.  Sans that call, who knows what the game looks like.  The second call being an interception at UWEC that carried the defender into the endzone -- ball on the 20 yard line?  Nope, WIAC officials put the ball on the three.  Huh?  I think the rule is crystal clear and I have yet to see any reasonable explanation.  As I recall, SJU three and out, punt/short field for UWEC, UWEC scores on that possession and takes the lead.

For the record, I am with the coaches on this one, play the game, don't let it come down to the officials.  For the record, I stand by UST crushing BU.
I can't speak to UWEC, wasn't there. As for last Saturday, the call was correct. I was up in the booth and watched the replay on CTV. VOJ also jumped over into our cubbyhole to look at the replay and them i listened to him confirm on air that it was a turnover.

Bottom line, quit blaming the officials. There were calls on both sides that could have been better, and that happens every game. Quit crying over spilt milk Almost.

And maybe UST does beat Bethel, but I doubt they crush us. I don't think any Bethel fans have been claiming we are going to destroy UST, they are ranked fourth in the country for a reason. That said, I fully expect our players and coaches to throw their all into the game. And call me a homer, but I do think we can win if we play well enough, but who cares right now, we've got GAC this week first.

Bench,

I'm really sorry to hear about your brother. I can't imagine losing my brother like that. That said, it sounds like you were a great comfort to him all the way up until he died, I'm sure that made a huge difference to him. And you're right, Caruso's actions make him sound like a class act.

It can be easy to want to vilify the opposing coaches, players and fans, but my experience has been that they are all--at the DIII level anyway--pretty good people. I think it's what makes following this level of football so enjoyable. (don't worry TDT, I'm in no way impugning your reputation by assuming you're a good guy ;))

WashedUp

I was hoping some Olaf fans would be making their yearly appearance on this board to talk some smack in anticipation of the game this weekend.  Did they all follow Meidt to Washington?

Bottom Line is, Caruso IS a Class Act!

Does anyone know where he is this year? He isn't listed on the Redskins staff with Shannahan coming in.
Perhaps Meidt can be the new Gopher coach as he has both NFL & Head coaching experience  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

hazzbeen,

Since you have the advantage, what was correct about the call?  I was on the vistors side, and there was just a small issue with the PA system -- like no volume.  I can only surmise the following:  fumble before the goal line, ground didn't cause the fumble, ball recovered by BU.  From  where I sat, it looked like he crossed the goal line and was on his back on the ground when it was funbled, clearly I am wrong.

Far from crying in my milk.  The point is the officials I have seen in my brief encounter with DIII football are dreadful.  I question whether half of them understand the rule book, whether half of them are healthy enough to even be in position to make the correct call, and know that most of them are barely better than high school officials.  If that is crying, I have a gallon of milk for you!

Geez.  Anyone got keys to a furniture warehouse with a bunch of armchairs?  We got a lotta folks around here that need somewhere to sit down.

You're perspective of what happened on that fumble is all we have to know about the kind of official you'd make...

My only comment about MIAC officiating is that I have watched a little over 4 games this season (parts of the SJU/UWEC and SJU/BU game online) and the Saturday game at BU was the first one that I recall a holding penalty called on an offensive line.  It actually went against BU and at the time was a real benefit to SJU.  I just can't believe that all of these teams have such stellar o-lines that are able to play such clean games.  As a former basketball official it's my philosophy that if a player breaks the rules and gains an advantage over an opponent you blow the whistle or throw the damn flag.  If players, coaches or fans don't want me making class then play within the confines of the rules.

Hazzbeen,

That is twice now you have hurt my feelings, what an internet bully.  First suggesting I was cry baby and now I assume suggesting I would make a bad official.

Would it have been so very hard to just review the video?  I think I will unplug the interlynk machine now.

<< it's my philosophy that if a player breaks the rules and gains an advantage over an opponent you blow the whistle or throw the damn flag.>>

That is exactly the way a game should be called -- and I don't care if it is against my team or not.

I will also ad to the list of crimes by MIAC football officials that there is absolutely no consistency in how the rules are called across crews.

Wow, for stating a couple of pages back that people shouldn't worry about the officials, and that the players shouldn't let the game come down to officiating, you've sure got a lot to say about the refs.

Are MIAC refs the best? No. I don't think anyone will argue that, but they are doing a thankless job that not a ton of people want.

Maybe you should sign up?

AlmostEx

Thankless?  How about having a little pride in your job, regardless of how thankless it is?

If I use that "logic" if any one of us feel un/under-appreciated in our chosen profession, we are entitled to do a half-a$$, bull-$hit job?  Actually, that may not be such a bad form of logic -- pretty much explains human-kind!

Is there a limit on much I can post daily?  Is there a daily record?

It looks like it will be a Battle Royal between Bethel and STU in the MIAC this year.    What are the bets for those of you who have seen both teams?
