I come from a long line of ref...not haters. Ref antagonists. I'm still bitter about some calls in a high school basketball game made 17 years ago by the state's former Speaker of the House. But, I don't think the refs have cost the Johnnies that much this year. I do think the Eau Claire spot on the interception was absurd. And it definitely shifted the momentum, as the field position game was completely in Eau Claire's advantage the rest of the way. But the Johnnies still had numerous chances to put that game away.

But the first Pederson fumble at the 1-yard-line on Saturday was definitely the right call. The Bethel video crew had a great angle on the replay and it was just a great play by the defender to strip Pederson before he hit the ground and before he crossed the end zone. If the Johnnies had thrown a challenge flag on the play, they would have been out a timeout. And as hazz said, VOJ said he too glanced at the replay and agreed with the call.

Now, the calls in that 1994 Albion game...those did cost the Johnnies the shot at a national title.

Bench,

I'm really sorry to hear about your brother. I can't imagine losing my brother like that. That said, it sounds like you were a great comfort to him all the way up until he died, I'm sure that made a huge difference to him. And you're right, Caruso's actions make him sound like a class act.

Bottom Line is, Caruso IS a Class Act!

Isn't that what I just said  ???

Yep, just reinforcing what you pointed out!

What is this all about??

http://www.tommiesports.com/ftbl/news/Letter_10-11.html

What exaclty is the question?

The guy impresses me more and more by the minute. Cue the Gopher talk!

The question is, why do you right this open letter? What is the purpose of it - it is just really weird.

On another note, attendance was 4,000 Saturday, I assume if both Bethel and UST are undefeated there will be 5,000 + at the game.

Is this theRIGHT kind of tommie edumacation?

Thankless?  How about having a little pride in your job, regardless of how thankless it is?

If I use that "logic" if any one of us feel un/under-appreciated in our chosen profession, we are entitled to do a half-a$$, bull-$hit job?  Actually, that may not be such a bad form of logic -- pretty much explains human-kind!

Is there a limit on much I can post daily?  Is there a daily record?

There is a difference between thankless jobs and one where a bunch of  Rubes go on a message board and ream you anonymously every time their team loses.  We all know that the MIAC refs aren't perfect.  But to imply that they aren't going out and doing their best to call the game fair and make it an enjoyable experience for everyone is classless.

Because of you were to wrong it, then the letter may carry a grudge for years and just cause a lot of unhappiness.  And we don't want letters doing that, do we?

Hint: It's 3:27 in the afternoon and I'm still in the office this Wednesday.  Despite the culture, it's not yet beer o' clock.  Another hour and 33 minutes for that.

Maybe you were as excited as I was when my LPGE Thunder sent Sviggum and son home unhappy in the 98' state semifinals at the civic center.  I was a bit concerned throughout the game that the fix was in for Kenyon Wanamingo as Arne the gov was sitting with the Sviggums yukking it up.

There, that ought to balance out the earlier bit I posted about LPGE having the nations longest football losing streak.

A new beer commercial just caught my eye tonight.  Made me chuckle.

EDIT:  And I see the rest of the add campaign is a lowly run of anti-American tripe.  Sydney beer tastes like crap and 98% of their commercials suck.

There is a big difference between not being perfect in a job and just not caring or intentionally doing it poorly. I'd agree that the refs could be better at times, but these guys get paid less and receive less training than the guys you see on TV everyday. Sometimes the pay doesn't even cover travel expenses.

Not agreeing with a call is one thing, but it is a tough and thankless job and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they're doing their best. But in the heat of the moment I was yelling a few times on Saturday, but that's more my problem than theirs  :)

Go diddle yourself, unless of course I somehow missed the super secret, double decoded message from D3.com on how to translate WashedUp into your real identity, in which case I apologize and will call you shortly to discuss in person.

As for rube, I see you follow the KFAN definition, but I can assure you I am anything but rural and I know how to use all the dinnerware at the dinner table.

Finally, I can and will assert anything I want and I do assert that the MIAC football officials are terrible.  To be clear, I complained about the officiating after the Concordia game (who won that?)  I don't care how little they are paid, I don't even care if they are volunteers, if you are going to do a job, do it correctly and I have seen more than ample evidence to the contrary

Freebird -- thanks for stopping by the booth.

BlueandGold.  I didn't say both were in the BU game.  The call on the one yard line covers the margin of loss.  Sans that call, who knows what the game looks like.  The second call being an interception at UWEC that carried the defender into the endzone -- ball on the 20 yard line?  Nope, WIAC officials put the ball on the three.  Huh?  I think the rule is crystal clear and I have yet to see any reasonable explanation.  As I recall, SJU three and out, punt/short field for UWEC, UWEC scores on that possession and takes the lead.

For the record, I am with the coaches on this one, play the game, don't let it come down to the officials.  For the record, I stand by UST crushing BU.

Wow. How do you reconcile your earlier post of stating that you are "with the coaches" on not worrying about officiating, and then throwing a multiple page hissy fit about MIAC refs?

Sour grapes?

It isn't hard to figure it out who I am if you really want to.  Finding my number to call me might be slightly more difficult.  And you were talking about the Concordia game here?

Quote from: AlmostEx on October 12, 2010, 02:30:08 PM
I have been asking myself what would have happened if SJU actually had an officiating crew working a game that understands the rule book and applied it correctly -- see a couple of those turnovers if called correctly, erase the score differential and theoretically result in a win for SJU, who would be 5-1 as as a result.

Don't know how I didn't get that that was the Concordia game.

Awesome. I agree 100%. I have had many problems with officials over the years, but I never thought it was because they were terrible at their job or not trying to do their best. I could come up with several blown calls that cost my team dearly over the years, but each time I thought the ref had to make a quick judgement call and they did their best to make the right one.

I actually remember a former player telling me that a MIAC ref missed a call during a game that severely hurt his team, so he casually spoke to the ref about it during halftime of that game. The ref happened to be working a later game of the season, came up to the player, said he watched the tape and admitted he made the wrong call. That tells me that they are trying to do their best and want to make the right call.
