105,
He had his daughter with him and in talking to her she was going to be the DD.  I'm sure he is home safe and sound.

I hope they get Mike Leatch.  Spending some unwanted time locked in a closet would do some of the Gophers good and I'd rather watch us lose 52-49 than 23-3.

HELP WANTED:

Looking for Pollsters for a "soon to be unveiled" D3 TOP 25 FAN POLL.

Publishing site: www.uwwfootball.blogspot.com

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Commit to submit a ballot ranking the D3 Teams 1-25 by stated deadline. I'm thinking that will be midnight on Mondays.
2. Research the teams and try to be as unbiased as possible in ranking them.
3. Think through your own philosophy as to how much to weigh previous ranking, won/loss record, your sense as to who would win head to head, national performances in recent years, quality wins, and whatever reasonable criteria you care to choose.
4. Submit a ballot EVERY WEEK by the deadline. Missing a deadline will be cause to forfeit your spot. Create and submit your ballot BEFORE viewing the D3football.com poll. You can look at previous weeks polls to get you started if you are having a hard time filling out the last few slots.

PURPOSE OF POLL

This poll is to promote meaningful and fun discussion on d3boards.com.  It is simply something that will be fun to contrast with D3football.com's poll. D3football.com's poll is the one legitimate poll we have in D3 football in my opinion.  This poll is not even intended to become #2. I just think it would be an interesting point of comparison and discussion.

HOW TO APPLY

Send me a private message. In your message indicate:
1. you are applying to be a pollster.
2. What team/conference you follow.
3. Whether you can submit a poll as early as this Thursday. (That is not mandatory, if everyone can we may do one this week).

WHO WILL BE CHOSEN?

The first 25 respondents will be our initial group of pollsters.  This group will remain the D3 FOOTBALL FAN POLL TOP 25 pollsters unless they resign their position or miss a deadline.  Pollsters, I will never post your names on the boards.  If you choose to, that is fine. If you are beyond the first 25 responses, your name will be placed on a "waiting list".  If there are fewer than 25 respondents by midnight on Wednesday, we will go with what we have and continue to have "open" slots to be filled.

Remember FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!  ;)

DOC and Gig Harbor Cat, thanks so much for the hospitality Saturday at the CatDome. The longie was excellent, as was the luncheon inside the tent. Nice to see Coco, his wife, son and daughter-in-law.

As always, enjoying my stay here in Oregon. We went to Mount Hood last Friday and this morning I will be attending a law school class with my daughter at Lewis and Clark here in Portland.

Heading back to Minnesota tomorrow to start getting tuned up for the Stiftungsfestivities this Saturday when the Gusties come to town.

Speaking of the Johnnie connections, Saturday I met a Linfield grad who had the privilege of playing for the Wildcats in 1965 when they got drilled by the Johnnies for the NAIA national championship in Augusta, GA. Then yesterday I went to Mass at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Portland and met the priest. Turns out he did a sabbatical at St. John's for a year and a half in 1999-2000. There was also a Johhnie singing in the choir who is a `59 grad.

The music director at St. Elizabeth's was my grade school music teacher at Our Lady of the Lake in Lake Oswego.  Glad you enjoyed your stay in Portland, Johnnie Red.

Brewster being gone will be a major positive for the program.  Highly doubt Caruso will get the job.  My guess is either Marc Trestman or Al Golden from temple.  There's no way they'll lure a coach away from a good thing.  Especially with some of the names I heard.  Sorry but the guys at TCU and Boise aren't going to leave and never a shot at Dungy.  This will be interesting to see who gets saddled with that mess.  Go Badgers. :)

Granted Brewster is responsible for teaching kids to play his style of football, however the talent level on the gophers is far from competing in the Big Ten.  But is there any blame to go on Maturi for hiring a coach without experience as a head coach at the college or NFL level?  Did he fire brewster now to take heat off of him if he would have kept brewster throughout the season?

And Sid was PISSED.  I wish they would have had the camera on him when he was talking.

Sid has traveled to a different planet at this point. As Dusty pointed out a couple years ago when Sid said that SJU should go D-1 in hockey and play at the National Concrete Center, "Sid is ready for the Shalom Home."

That is part of it I think.  First I don't think Brewster ever really knew what his style was.  He sure didn't recruit the right guys for it.  You can't expect to do well when you linebackers are 210 pounds, I don't care what star prospect they are.  But yeah a good amount of blame should fall to Maturi too.  There is no way someone with no coordinating experience at the least (not recruiting, talking O or D) should become a head D1 coach.  I just thought it was funny when it happened and as a badger fan it was fun to watch.  Almost felt bad at times though.

Nearly 50 years of wallowing in the mud. The "highlight" of many years was a moral victory of "keeping it close" against Ohio State or Michigan or some lame-a$$ bowl game in same place no one would want to go and losing money to appear in said lame-a$$ bowl game.
Watching Minnesota kids leave to play at another Big 10 school or in some cases Florida Stae, Miami or Notre Dame. It's not to say you can keep all the blue-chippers in state, but if Wisconsin & Iowa can keep their kids in-state, why can't Minnesota?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Hey guys - Not sure if you'd seen this, but a player from Luther sustained a pretty serious neck/spine injury this past weekend. You can check out his caringbridge.org site and leave him a note. If you're so inclined, keep him, his teammates, and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks.

Sid may not have mentioned Caruso, but Mike Rand from the strib did today and gopher nation is also aware of the letter writer.

I think Maturi either gets lucky and lands Mark Richt after Georgia loses a few more games, or he hires someone 55+ to at least give the appearance of hiring someone unlike Brew.

The pulse I get from listening to 8 hours of KFAN a day is that Caruso is a risk they wouldn't be willing to take. But, as a coach at USD, NDSU, head guy at Mac and UST, i couldn't think of too many people that know the recruiting area any better.

That being said, I'm thinking they'll be courting some bigger names.

Also after reading some of the rube chats on Gopher Hole and Star Trib it looks as if a another riot would ensue in Dinkytown if they hired (gasp) a DIII guy. My favorite is a guy calling Caruso a "Snake oil salesman, who begged and pleaded for the Toledo job, and lies to his players." (I'm guessing he was a UST benchwarmer. Embrace it buddy! Don't be bitter at success.)

My take is, it's fashionable for major college rubes to hate on our brand of football, think we can't take our talents to the next level. All I got to say is, "Watch last night's Indianapolis v. Washington game. Pierre Garcon killing it. London Fletcher killing Joseph Addai."

Apparently I should have put a **sarcasm** warning on my original post about Caruso.  No way in hell that's happening, even if we hadn't lived through the Brewster fiasco.  Not a judgement on Caruso, just too big a jump from DIII to the Big Ten.

I don't care what anyone else thinks about DIII football.  I like DI and DIII, but for different reasons.  DII used to be interesting until the top schools went DI.  But that's just my opinion.
