Here's what Sid said during the press conference (with a lot of emotion):

Nobody's been a bigger supporter of your guys than myself.  I was wrong in this.  I didn't think the University of Minnesota would do a stupid thing like this, fire the guy in the middle of the season.  But you look back at your game on Saturday, Tinsley's running for a touchdown and he winds up in a touchback, you have a bad pass from center, that winds up in a touchdown.  Bennett scores a touchdown, and somebody's offsides.  Brewster made all those mistakes?  Unfortunately, he's the coach and he gets fired.

Sid continued this rant on his show this morning (740 am version). He also said "No [coach] will succeed at the U; wanna know why? I'll tell you why.  Their GPA is too high. You cant have a high GPA and win at footblall."

(yes, I know he mostly likely meant their minimum GPA to be eligible, but it sounds like Sid believes the only good football palyer is a dumb one, which explains his distain for D-III where football players and all other athletes are students first and many have quite high GPAs)

Apparently I should have put a **sarcasm** warning on my original post about Caruso.  No way in hell that's happening, even if we hadn't lived through the Brewster fiasco.  Not a judgement on Caruso, just too big a jump from DIII to the Big Ten.

I don't care what anyone else thinks about DIII football.  I like DI and DIII, but for different reasons.  DII used to be interesting until the top schools went DI.  But that's just my opinion.

Honestly, from what I've seen from Brewster, I'd take the guy coaching at the local high school....

It is a shame the Dungy doesn't want to do it.....

Sid's marbles have been rolling in his mouth for the past 7 years. He needs to park his kister on his dock, do a little fishing down on the St. Croix and put his golden pen in the Smithsonian..

Sid sounds like quite a bonehead.  I'd be willing to spot Minnesota 3 TDs and still take Stanford - does he think UM's entry GPA is higher than Stanford's?!

(For that matter, is Minnesota's entry GPA higher than other Big Ten schools?  Maybe a couple, but I'm willing to bet it is lower than Michigan or Northwestern, to name just two.)

Hey! GHC just figured out Johnnie Red made off with the tip jar!

Week 8 Pick'ems

Seeing as how the Tommies and Bethel hold a 2 game lead in the MIAC race and do not play anyone above .500 after Saturday's game, I'm calling their matchup the conference championship and putting 5 points at stake.

Minnesota: The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that league (NFL) sources say Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is interested in the head coaching job at the University of Minnesota.

I had a somewhat similar situation when I was babysitting my neighbor's house.  He had gone out of town for a couple of weeks and asked me to look after it.  One Saturday morning I woke and and noticed a bicycle laying on the ground behind the back door.  When I went over to check it out I saw that the back door had been broken in.  Rather than go inside I called the police department.  When they went inside they discovered a drunken young man sleeping on the couch. After a night of drinking he had broken in thinking it was his house.  The funny thing is that he lived on an entirely different street which was at least 8-10 blocks from my neighbor's house.

PA just savaged Brewster for missing on Fritz Waldvogel.

According to them, Waldvogel turned down a chance a some very big time schools. Was not aware of that.

Adam Weber is a class act.  I feel sorry for him, and the other players.  Brewster was just in over his head.

Yeah, I really feel for Adam Weber. Just didn't seem like he ever had a chance to really showcase his stuff. He'll leave as the Gophers career record holder in yds (and tds??) while operating under a revolving door of offensive coordinators and systems. Tough gig. But you always got the sense he handled himself well despite all the junk going on around him on the coaching staff.

Sid obviously wasn't in the Navy.

Exactly...take some responsibility. But this would also have to include Maturi.

Adam Weber may be the worst QB in the Big Ten. Maybe that is stretching it a bit, but he is awful. I credit him for sticking it out with the carousel of offensive coordinators he has had, but still he is brutal. He will make a great pass one play, then the next three passes he will bounce to his receivers. Look at last year against South Dakota State. We scored only 16 points against a lower tier school, when a couple weeks later the University of Montana hung about 70 on them. Enough said.
