I'm curious about this exodus as well. Somehow there were still eight pages of in-game update posts during yesterday's games, most of which centered around a game between a pair of .500 teams. Yep, Johnnie fans headed for the hills.

I do wonder, though, if the Tommies next year are 3-3 through six games, how many Tommie posters will there be? Bench. And...
Who cares how many Tommie fans are posting on a message board?  During a quick appearance I made at UST yesterday before I had to run off to a wedding, I saw the best Tommie crowd I have ever seen. ------Sidenote, What is up with all the fall weddings this year?  I'm sure Hallstrom's brother knew that it was a football saturday and his brother was planning on playing football in college...........  The Tommie students were louder and more involved than I expected.  After the phantom touchdown followed by the fumble from the 08 Tommie Johnnie game it was pretty clear that a lot of the students weren't as upset about the refs as they were just complacent about the game and patting themselves on the back for predicting another loss to the Johnnies.  It was a great atmosphere for football, though I think if they keep drawing crowds like they do I'd take a play from the SJU book and put up some temporary seating in one or both of the endzones.

Don't take my question to mean I care. It was simply in response to the Great SJU Exodus talk.

sfury,

That's a big "if". As I'm sure you're painfully becoming aware of, as long as Caruso's at the helm it's not something we'll need to consider!

So, is it fair to say that UST is the next UWW?

Do you mean as a football program or as an institution?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

It was a reference to UWW's rise from relative mediocrity to D3 domination... ::)

I'd still post at 3 and 3. I draw the line at 2 and 8. Cough-Roney-Cough.

I assumed.  Seriously though, UST is a lot more comparable to Stevens Point.  Awesome and frequently in the World Series in baseball; awesome in basketball; consistently (in the future) competing for a conference championship in football.  I think the program goes as Caruso goes and we'll see how it goes when Caruso goes.

Seriously, what is the thought on how long Caruso will stay at UST? He should have his first outright MIAC title this year. Regional championsip? National title game? Each step is a great resume builder.

I think if he is career savvy and wants to move up, this will be his last year at UST.  Great season, a lot of seniors... Market yourself at the top of a curve.

If he doesn't leave at the end of this season, I think he will be around for awhile.

USTBench

Can't fault Caruso too much for leaving, but it'd be nice to see him build up some equity/sustained success; Jim Tressel at Youngstown St. style and go for the job he WANTS. Not just the first FCS/lower tier FBS opening that becomes available.

It'd be great to see if ANYONE can bust up that UWW/Mt. Union championship; and I think UST is as poised to do it as anyone IF they can have a consistent leader/formula over the next 4 or 5 years.

I'm not sure how long he stays, but I'm certainly hoping he's growing roots. Generally, I try not to waste too much time on conjecture. Word was that he about left to go to Toledo last year and that obviously didn't happen, so who knows.

Not to take any credit away from Caruso, but I have been told that this is the first UST football staff (maybe ever) that has more than just the HC as a full time employee. That speaks of the administrations commitment to the program and I hope that continues regardless of who is at the helm.
