He took his ridunkulous show on the road this weekend with another out of his mind zero catch performance.

SUMMIT!!!!!

What if Caruso were to accept a job at a bigger program in a warmer climate (say, San Diego?), return to MN to give notie & pack only to have an epiphany and change his mind and end up staying another 30+ years? He woudln't be the first MIAC coach to do that  :)

Peronally, I hope he stays till he retires, but even if he were to leave after this season, I think the foundation he laid will allow UST to remain viable and competitve not only for MIAC titles but on a national level, giving the conference a trio of powerhouses, along with SJU & BU

I hope he is saving it all up for the Johnnie/Piper tilt in a few weeks.

A tradition unrivaled...

Even though ROR has lost a step to "old man time" he's still one heck of a route runner  ;)

Realistically what type of opportunities would be available to Caruso?  Why would he leave, he appears to have all the support he needs?  He has an ever improving, metro campus to which to recruit.  He has a positive image with area high schools, which should translate into a continued pool of talent.  He should be able to re-recruit the local kids who left for D1 only to find it is not their niche.

SJU fans, rivalry hyperbole aside, should hope he stays.  If he stays and continues to succeed, it should only raise the profile of the conference.  If he stays it should only motivate the SJU coaches and administration to up their game, which I believe will need to happen.  I would hope that in the end fans, coaches and football players alike want to go against the best.

Having 3 or 4 teams that can realistic make a deep run through the play-offs is good for the MIAC, and like you said can only help in recruiting local and national talent. More & more MIAC rosters have kids from California, Texas & Florida.

For a long time, Manny Ramirez and I had the same number of RBI in a White Sox uniform. Ahh, those were the days.

On coaches, one thing to think about is the family situation. Caruso has a couple of young children -- does he want to move them around the country a lot? Coaching at a higher level carries the potential of frequent job changes. Or if he has a situation he likes, would he want to park in St. Paul for the 15 years or so it would take for his kids to go off to college?

It's way too early to know if Caruso is a D-III lifer, here for the love of the Division, or someone who will want to move up. There are not many places in between -- the other big class of D-III head coaches are the ones who can't cut it here and get let go. :)

You can still catch him, Pat. Sox will be looking for an inexpensive option at DH and Im sure you cna get at least 1 RBI to tie Manny  :)

As much as I would like to believe he is the Tommie coach of the future, his track record of continuously jumping to the next best opportunity does not lead me to be that hopeful.  I don't think there is anything wrong with UST being a stepping stone on his way up, though (maybe UST should just go DI anyway?  :o).  If it is, I'm glad he made the program good while he was around.

Life Long Tommie,

A bit of advice, pay no mind to the comments about lack of posts, attendance, etc. Clearly, the Tommie's success is a bitter pill for some of the John fans to swallow (pun intended) and they're left to try and take shots at the new board posters, their lack of posts and play the attendance card. This board has been a Johnnie smoke fest for sometime and it's apparent they're not to enthusiastic to share. I take pleasure in it all, just reaffirms the Toms arrival! ;D

Thx DoubleO – Not only do I share your assessment but your right on in it's content.

It's been a Johnnie "smoke fest" for sometime because Tommie fans are the weakest coffee in the whole d*mned shop.  We have regular Cobbers, Auggies, Royals and even some Pipers, Oles and a GACer.  But the Tommies don't come out until something big happens, like a player managing to tie both his left AND right shoes without help.  And as soon as the glory fades, so do the fans.

So the Tommie team?  Have fun.  Go crazy.  The fans?  You all still suck.  Maybe it's genetic.

I've not noticed a real big increase in Tommie postings in the past 6 weeks but tell me out there, has anyone but I noticed a significant Johnnie posting exodus in the past 3 weeks? Wonder what the reason for that is? Speak for your own Johnnie Boy!

So I guess your major in art appreciation, minor in lawn care aesthetics, didn't cover negative correlation?  One ugly variable goes up causing a second desirable variable to go down?

Not that you've recognized a valid trend.  I take it that your J-term elective in classical toppings of the meat lover's pizza didn't talk about sample size?  Hint: in a population of almost 54k posts, a reasonable sample size is more than 12...

Caruso has been th coach at UST for how long?  A few years or so and he will have 2 playoff appearances in that time frame.  Good?  You could say that, but worthy of a D-1 coaching job...hard to say and I lean towards not likely.  He may be able to land a D-2 or FCS head coaching job but at a lower level school.  From there you take the assistant position with a FBS college team and hope to be promoted to head coach.  Then the possiblity to be promoted to a head position at a lower FBS school and possibly to a big time program (one of the schools in the 6 BCS conferences).  Probably will take around 8-10 seasons at the least to accomplish this.  If you take a peak at bio's of big time college coaches who have had success (brewster of course doesn't count) they have been all over the country coaching as assistants until they got there break into head coaching and just kept moving up as they had success.

I would submit there is 0% chance of a D1 head coaching position, even a 0% chance at a D1 coordinator position.  At the D1 level the best he could hope would be a position coach and I dare say this is true at the D1AA level as well.  To my earlier point, what kind of opportunity really exist, and does, as noted he really want to move his family all around.

Very, very few hit the lottery like Chris Meidt and even he must be asking himself if it was worth it.  One of the biggest challenges in life/career is to know when you are (or aren't) at the right address.

Oshkosh head coach went to the Goofers when Brewster came in  as a position coach, and the WW o cordinator went to Northern Illinois as a qb coach.
