Can't fault Caruso too much for leaving, but it'd be nice to see him build up some equity/sustained success; Jim Tressel at Youngstown St. style and go for the job he WANTS. Not just the first FCS/lower tier FBS opening that becomes available.

It'd be great to see if ANYONE can bust up that UWW/Mt. Union championship; and I think UST is as poised to do it as anyone IF they can have a consistent leader/formula over the next 4 or 5 years.

Having seen both teams play (UW-RF vs UST, and UWW vs EC) I honestly don't think UST would do well.  Their defense is good I will give them that, but against UWW run game i don't think they would last.  The offense wouldn't be able to get much done.  I think the RB Wartman is big but the backup 37 I think is a better back overall and would actually make UST a better team.  The guy just seemed more explosive.  The game just seems to be more physical in the WIAC, which is why I think UST would struggle.

I guess I wasn't even necessarily talking about this year, as I said "UST is as poised to do it as anyone, IF..."

That being said, the physical play of the WIAC is hardly a new conversation. It used to be their biggest downfall as they'd beat the hell out of each other all year and then their playoff team wouldn't have the juice to make a deep run. Then again, nobody had the horses UWW has had the last few years (UW LaCrosse in the early 90s). I think if it were to be busted up this year, the road to Salem will have to go through Alliance, as I don't see anyone beating UWW at Whitewater. Although Linfield did have them on the ropes last year.

But if North Central, Wesley, UMHB or UST gets hot against Mt. Union, it may happen.

If I had to vote with my wallet and not my heart, I think it's going to be another year of the rest of D3 watching Mt. Union and UWW on ESPN2.

My error -- I didn't study the resume before commenting.  O.K maybe he has something more than a zero percent chance at a D1 or D1AA cordinator position, but . . . .  Then again, he may have the best professional network known to man, and he may be the next head coach at <fill in the blank>

Freebird

Just ran into Mr and Mrs OneArmScot in the airport on my way home from Dallas. Given the weather they are flying out for a little work/vacation at the right time.

I saw some of the UMU/Capital game On STO this weekend. It's hard not to be impressed by the way the Mount moved the ball at will, but I didn't see too many I considered game breaking type athletes as I have in the past. They "just" played well as a team. I don't think they are unstoppable. The same is true for UWW. Their game against Stout showed that they might be beatable if the game plan is right and the opposition is good.

They have not really had an easy time with opponents from the MIAC recently, so if UST and UWW meet, I don't think you could rule out a win for UST.

Do you mean UWW or Mount? I can't see UST beating UWW, but that would be a fun game to attend.

As a Mount fan, I would agree with your assessment, but bring up one important point.

A certain AA wide-receiver named Cecil Shorts III is currently nursing an injury, and would definitely be considered THE play maker in any game.  Mind you, not up to a certain MIAC all-tweet receiver, but not too shabby.   ;D

Retired Old Rat

I think we should work on naming a D3 All Tweet Team.  I think Ray Grant has Most Valuable Tweeter locked up.

MIAC related Halloween costume ideas (Common Man is my muse):

1) Pair of stilts to make myself 7 foot 3 and go as SJU's record this year
2) I could pin a bunch of zeros to me horizontally and go as Ray Grant's stat line
3) I could wear a red shirt with 3 tiny purple dots on it and go as an aerial view of Bench and his friends at Stiftungfest
4) I could wear a purple shirt with a giant white question mark on it and go as the average Tommie fan's knowledge of football
5) I could wear a Scarlet Knight's jersey with some hip waders and go as a Carleton player on his way to practice
6) I could carry around an old paint bucket and nothing else and go as Hamline's trophy case
7) I could wear a Michigan Wolverine's helmet and go as a Gustavus player
8) I could wear a wrestling singlet and go as the best athlete on Augsburg's campus
9) I could not dress as anything in sit in my room on Halloween and go as a Bethel student
10) I could hire a tutor from Carleton to follow me around all night and go as a St. Olaf player
11) I could wear something old and outdated and go as Concordia's playbook.
12) I could wear a Hamline windbreaker and a headset and go as Tim Brewster in 2011

Bench-what the hell is going on with the Sioux? Maybe a Haksol costume.

Johnnie Red

So should we bring the Stiftungsfestivities to Carleton Saturday morning?

USTBench

I could wear a suit and flip off everyone dressed as a referee and go as Hakstol
I could dress as a siv with a red light flashing behind me and go as Sioux goalie Brad Eidsness

That goalie-no confidence in him.
BTW-you guys getting a blizzard today or tonight?

USTBench

Looks like tommorrow or tonight. But it's raining like hell here right now. Not a fan of the Alerus Center, but glad I'll be seeing if the Sioux football team can get to 3 and 5 against Lamar in my comfy suite.
