Wondering if the NCAA or Regional panel will take into account a teams stat's other than win/losses when picking the top 32 teams?  I've been following BU football for 3-4 years now and although I tend to see more of the offensive side of things, I'm very impressed w/the defense as well. Each of the 4 years that I've followed my grandson, the defense has been the "consistent" part of the team.  I actually looked back over the years on the BU website and have noticed they are always on the top of the MIAC in most defensive stats.  This has been true for most of coach Johnson time at BU.  Does he recruit players first to play defense and build the program around the defense??  They always seem very prepared and make very good game adjustments.  Just would like some insight for those that have followed the program.  Thanks

Other than strength of schedule and other things that are derived from wins and losses, no, no other stats.

Thanks Pat!
Where would one find the strength of schedule info?  Do you know where BU stands in the catagory?

Being a young buck, it is remarkable to me that there was a time that Augsburg was good at football.

Funny, with the exception of the past two years, I was thinking the same thing about the Tommies  ;)

On paper no other stats...however, they do 'enter the conversation' on occasion to help iron out deadlock, at least on the regional committe level at times. Certainly not given the priority of the established criteria, but committee members are aware of these intagibles. It's why the represention that is expressed on each regional com. is so important. You've got individuals who are familiar with the teams being discussed, at least to a degree.

What?!?!?! Every MIAC historian has to remember the Cigar Bowl!!! http://www.tommiesports.com/news/GeneBlog_28.html

I've heard quite a bit about the Cigar Bowl...But I'm WAY too young of a buck to have been around for it. Quite an interesting story though!

I've returned from Pennsylvania.

Was able to witness Joe Paterno's 400th win.  It was an awesome feeling being in a stadium with over 100,000 fans for such a happening.  Not quite as awesome as being at the Stagg Bowl in 2003 and 2000.

On the scoreboard after the game:

Winningest Coaches in NCAA Football History:

John Gagliardi   476
Carroll College/St. John's University

Eddie Robinson  408
Grambling State

Joe Paterno  400
Penn State University

*Note:  the scoreboard was incorrect as John had won is 477th game earlier Saturday.

The tailgating at Penn State is unbelievable.  I saw several tailgaters with 50 inch TVs and satellite dishes.  They start very early and go very late.

I also had the pleasure of meeting one of State College's finest after the game.  I had failed to turn on the headlights of my rental car.  Fortunately for me, I had not had anything to drink all day.

Excellent environment ROR- +K

Last season on the Halloween game Gophers vs. Mich. State @ The Bank- I was the guest of an old boss of mine, who is a Penn State alum.- he reminded me that no matter how nice the new TCF stadium is, that there is nothing like the experience in Happy Valley!
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

+k to auggiedoggie57.  That may take the top of this year's Slam-o-Rama highlights.

Well, that same happy comment is regularly made by fans from Texas, Nebraska, Michigan and every team in the SEC.

Tommie football gets a very rare, yet first class news story on KARE11 sports this evening.  It's about time the local media devoted a little air time to St. Thomas.

I saw the piece on KARE 11 & the article about UMD, UST & Bethel in the Star Tribune.
Caruso has done a nice job turning things around at UST,and by what he said in the Star Tib. article seems to want to stay for the long run- who knew ???

This is the type of article/TV piece Gagliardi is accustom to receiving. The Star Trib. does a similar type article almost every year featuring the MIAC champions and compares against big time D1 & professional football to point out these guys (D3) play for the love of the game.

UST coaches, players, fans should be proud, they have a great squad this year.

Well, we will be having our last Stiftungsfestivities of the season this Saturday in Collegeville. :'( Hamline fans are welcome to join us. We have the tailgate in the parking lot above the scoreboard end of the field. The Arths will be making chili on Saturday. Bring a culinary delight to share if you like. The party is usually going by 10:00 a.m.
