I've gotta say I'm pretty much in awe of all the playoff talk on this board going on amongst the ust(d)'s and bethel backers.

stanbob, personally I prefer to let my team do the talking on the field. Is there something in particular that you would like to discuss?

He wants to discuss?  Why would he want to discuss your crummy team if you don't have the energy?

How about the new locker rooms?  Do you think they made the difference?

Do I think the new locker rooms made a difference? Sure do. As painful as it's going to be for you to hear, there is NO DOUBT that facilities make a difference in recruiting. Should help with the sustained success we're all looking for! Cheers to the new and quite impressive AARC, mate.

I guess that explains why you waited until they made the playoffs last year before you joined the board.

What exaclty does that explain, stanbob?

This board has typically been a John smokefest and I've had no interest in partaking. The Toms new found commitment to the football program has given the board some new found relevance. You don't like that or what's up?

Raiderguy, I really missed the jello shots this season. It would be great to have them again, even if it has to happen at St. Thomas. :P

So, how many points is UST going to put up on Benedictine?  I think this one could be similar to the SJU/Monmouth game of 2005.

Just so we're clear, though, I'd love to see the Tommies lose...but maybe not this game.  :D

DoubleO...allow me my 2010 drive-by.
So, you never post on other boards then? Like over on the 'Cat Fest board?  I don't recall you doing so during your shellacking last year. Fact is, I don't recognize your moniker.
But, stay healthy. We look forward to whacking the Big Boy again, in the snow, if need be.

D.O.C., typically do not post on other boards, no. Can't say I've ever spent any time, nor do I have much interest in the so called "cat board". Won't take the bait with regards to the "shellacking" comment. You had a nice team last year and earned the W. We would love the opportunity to have another shot at Linfield in our friendly confines should the situation present itself. However, out of respect due to Benedictine we'll be focusing on them this week.

Unless you're a UST coach or team member, you can focus all you want, and it won't make a lick of difference!

What do you mean it won't make a difference?  I just got off the phone with Brett to talk game plan vs. the cheeseheads.  I ran some scenarios in Madden I thought he might be interested in.  Funny thing is they all ended with Favre having 3+ ints.

It better matter because I still have dreams of a Super Bow...playoff appeara.....3rd place fin...1st overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft!  ;D

Just can't wait for the start of the Jake Locker era in Minnesota.  ::)

From RFMichigan, on the Benedictine's Board.  [I am not a Benedictine follower necessarily but saw them on their video feed (a very good quality one at that, as was mentioned on the basketball board last night for their basketball game vs. IWU) a couple of times. Their offense in their first conference game vs. Concordia-Chicago seemed to be fairly balanced run-pass. I'm not sure that their QB is a "runner" but he did gain some valuable yards by scrambling around and running downfield a bit.  Most of their passes were short "outs" or "middle distance" in the seams. (Not many "bombs" in the air.) Their running back runs hard out of the I and got most of his yards off tackle and especially around end on stretch handoffs in the games I saw.

Their two closest conference games were their first two of the year as they really weren't challenged after that. Their defense gave up 42 to CUC who passed pretty much at will in the first of the two.  It was interesting that two of their non-conference losses came to a team who is a "running" team (North Park) and a "passing" team (Kalamazoo).

Looking over the Eagles stats, a few things jumped out at me.

First, they are holding opponents to 50% passing.  That is pretty good. (UST held opponents to ~52%)

Second, Their punter is only averaging 32 yard/punt.  I think this works in the Eagles favor, as it presumably will limit Fritz's return chances.

Third, and most importantly, their D line goes, 215, (No weight given), 235, 235 compared to UST's O Line at 265, 300, 305, 300, 300.  Against UST's power running attack, this I believe, spells doom.  Their D-Line is going to have to get off the ball very, very, very quick or its going to be a long day.

You obviously missed the 2003 SJU/MUC Stagg Bowl.   ;D

In your defense, I highly doubt Benedictine's d-line is anywhere near as good as SJU's 2003 d-line.

The education bubble...  Over 100 colleges and universities are charging $50k a year in 2010.  The return on that investment is getting mighty meager.  I think I may encourage some of my kids to take up a trade.  They may not have the highest social standing, but the pay is remarkably good and compared to the cost of qualification the return is astronomical.

The only MIAC school I saw on the list was Carleton, but there were quite a few DIII schools that I recognized on it.  This trend, of course, will be the death of DIII football.  Who can afford to pay $50k for the privilege of playing ten or so games?

It's pretty ridiculous, and not just for undergrads.  I am in my last year at the U's law school where tuition has increased 13% each year (and is doing so again next year).  The return for a lot of students is just not worth it.

Actually I watched the whole thing and a student-athlete from a rival high school had a big interception for the Johns.  That was an awesome team, obviously.  I too, doubt Benedictine's undersized line is as talented.
