Speaking of old dingy gyms with the crappy wooden bleachers, I sure there are a few of us on this board that remember the days of Rat Hall at St. John's. Great place to watch college basketball. Just another wonderful memory of being a student at SJU.
I was in the original 'Rat Pack' founded by Frank 'Rat' Berres...............
.......long ago I'm afraid 8-)

You're a legend in many ways, 57, but this first time I heard of this.  A foundation member of the Rat Pack.  For real?  I can't think of another Johnnie institution that has greater alumni prestige.

D O.C.

It's really very sad to see the Red Stripes reduced to the Hairball concert instead of playoff football.
Have a nice winter - which started already.

Rat Berres is the only legend. The rest of us were just a bunch of rowdys that sat together at basketball games and gave the opposing team a bad time. Rat's favorite target was the wife of the Hamline basketball coach. No rats at football games then. I think we had cheerleaders then. Today there are more people at Stiftungfestivity than we had at a football game - almost.  :)

Dear Five-Seven,

No way you can throw this out here without further elaboration.

It was fun to carry on the tradition of Rats in the 80's. But the stories I heard from Coach Smith and Fr. Don about the original Rats were impressive. The best maybe when 57 and his gang ran through a banner for CST at Rat Hall-a near riot broke out, but peace was eventually restored. BTW-that was when SJU was know as the BlueJays-correct?

Really? I had no idea they were the Blue Jays.  Why and when did the transition happen?  Did they follow the MIAC trend of matching names (Auggies, Tommies, Gusties, Oles) or did they start it?

Hamline & Gustavus were the basketball powers then. The Hamline coach had a real trophy wife who came to the games ( Tommy girled up before there were Tommy Girls) and sat behind the Piper bench. Lets just say that Ratty couldn't let that go unnoticed.  :P
.......... of course we were all pretty ratty 24/7 except for church which was mandatory back then.

Ryan: St. Thomas 48, Benedictine 10
Pat: St. Thomas 61, Benedictine 7
Keith: St. Thomas 49, Benedictine 0

Using my Minnesota math like Dick Bremer, I'd have to say that the experts are picking UST by an average of 47.  That seems a bit high, even against a glorified UMAC school.  I personally would set the line in this one at 34 1/2.  I'd take St. Thomas to cover.

If it had only been South Park at least they could have said that they killed Kenny  :o

Great "off season" conversations boy & a big helping of +K to go around.
57- I'd give you 2 if I could, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Just for D.O.C.- with a couple more nights of temperatures in the 20's and some fool with enough Hamm's in him will try to be the first ice fishing fatality of the season  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

If the forecast holds, I guarantee there will be folks icefishing on Thanksgiving.  I did it two years ago--not a lot of ice, but I stayed dry!  ;D

A tradition unrivaled...

Good luck to UST and Bethel on Saturday. Here's to hoping both win and make a strong statement for the MIAC!

Are we about to find that the Rat Pack was the inspiration for this famous Animal House scene?
