What is the deal with Bethel and their kicking game? They start the game saturday going for 2 and missed their only xtra point try. They haven't tried any FG's since the St Thomas game and have only attempted 29 xtra pts but have scored 49 TD's. Did they give up kicking for Lent?

Why go for one when you can go for two?

When the kicking game goes south Coach Johnson just starts going for two most of the time.

Barring Tracy or Boehme (sp?) going down early, I think this is going to be a great game. And you can't tell me all the chatter about Linfield being a favorite doesn't have UST, an undefeated #1 seed, more than a little fired up. I'm guessing Caruso, who seems to be a very capable motivator, uses some of this talk to light a fire.

If STU needs a bunch of old guys talking on the internet to get them focused, they don't stand a chance.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

They missed a field goal badly on their first drive of the St. Thomas game and had the extra point later in the game blocked. Perhaps the beginning of the end.

I like that bit about Lent, pretty funny.

They gave up kicking last spring?  Bible schools really do believe in strict penitence.

OK, all of you SJU guys, what can you tell us about the Tommies-- Interested in a breakdown of football stuff--not the usual bio on the Girls on their campus !!

GHC

Not an SJU guy as you know but I was at the St Thomas game on Saturday....Scouting our Semi opponent maybe ? ;D

If you have a playbook with every trick play ever devised....St Thomas used that as their game plan.

They had quad reverses on returns, laterals where everywhere, even on an interception!
How bad is it when you are winning by 20-3 and you run a fake extra point for two!? ???
Oh the double reverse with a pass to the QB out in the pattern. Halfback passes too, you name it was in there. Disciplined defense needed here.

Didn't need it, don't know why you would show it in a game like this. Forget about the "give them something to think about defense"

The QB was very good and broke the playoff record for completion per centage, I think he was 18 of 19 and many were not dink and dunk passes.  Ben Wartman is a load but part of his success was because the Bendictine players were trying to tackle him high and he would just let them jump on board and go for a ride. You needed to tackle him low to stop him. Line was pretty big as I recall too.

Really have mixed feeling about the game coming up between these two teams It could end up as .....Linfield in Alliance.......WOW!  :o
Orrrrrrrrrr Mount to Minneapolis and a special edition of the Stiftingfest! That is all assuming Mount can hold serve on these next couple of games too. ;)
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Great video highlights of the game against Hamline in this post at Johnniefootball.com.

Props to Johnniepress and the folks at SJU for putting the video together - only complaint is that it's too short.  The snow made very memorable what would have otherwise been a yawner for the last game of a disappointing season.  It's too bad the weather kept so many people away.

No, that's certainly the reason, though. Future playoff opponents see that video and have to at least consider thinking about those things in the game plan.

But wouldn't any playoff team worth it's salt already consider trick plays in the game plan?  Consider them more?  Spend a day practicing against them maybe?

It seems a redundant argument to me.

GHC - what you really need to know is that the Tommies have new, expensive locker rooms.  Apparently, the tiles are very shiny.

D O.C.

Here's hoping 11 guys paint themselves up in purple and stand the whole game. Would just love to see that. GHC, after you get a close look, make sure WC11 gets a shot of' em after the game.

BREAKING NEWS:

All-world WR Ray Grant has decided to transfer to UST and in an unusual move by the NCAA, has been ruled eligible for this weekend's game against Linfield.

Hamline has cried foul play with claims of tampering and illegal contact by Glenn Caruso, but Grant has maintained this decision was all his own. He felt he was underutilized in the Hamline offense and felt there was an obvious opportunity to start right away for UST.

This definitely bodes well for UST on Saturday. Adding the impressive resume of RG will only make the Tommies passing offense that much more potent. Also look for RG to line up in a tight slot position so as to chip block on Hedin. RG's combination of size, speed and strength may be enough to neutralize the star DE's pass rush. The real question is, will Fritz Waldvogel still be the #1 WR now that a player of RG's caliber, experience and maturity has been added to the offense. We'll see on Saturday...
