Touchdown Tommy

Highlight of the day:  Hearing the Referee with an epic Freudian slip.  Following the coin toss to start the OT the ref said,"St. John's has elected to go on defense.". Followed by vociferous boos from the USTD faithful & loud catcalls from the numerous Johnnie fans in the stands!!  100% factual.

Had the Jiffy burger at the Blue Door Pub pregame.  Pepperjack cheese, peanut butter, mayo, and pickles with some tots.  It doesn't sound appetizing but it is crazy good.  Tried the Lagunitas brown shugga beer on tap.  Real tasty double brown ale.  Found out later this was 10% alc (not my usual Zima).

Good to see my pal 11.  I  promise not to utter a word to your wife about the midget strippers on Friday night.  Very sloppy game that neither team probably deserved to win, but someone had to.  I was very impressed by Linfield's WR #23 (tremendous hands & ability to take a hit).

I don't want either team to win next week.  But looking ahead MUCk at UST would be an epic beatdown while Bethel at MUCk would be a chance to revenge their pasting of a few seasons ago.  In the end, seeing RaiderGuy with Jello shots wins out!!

GHC:  how come Linfield can't win in Minnesota?
Chasing MILFs since '82...

It was a tough loss by one of the best DIII teams and football  programs in the nation....so the Tommies deserve the congratulations for a hard fought win...and I hope you guys go all the way to the Stagg Bowl and continue your road to victory.

Congratulations Tommies!
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

Will Bethel implement the forward pass into it's offensive scheme for 12-4-10?
Will Bethel continue to go for 2 pt. conversion or perhaps have faith in the kicking game. Would Johnson be kicking himself if UST prevails by a score of 14-12 with two failed 2pt. conversions?

Can UST stop Flannery? The kid is sniffing 5K yards for his career. Johnson just starts the "Road Graders" and they keep grading the road and eating the clock.

Things that make you go Hmmmm.....

TDT- that samich sounds nasty!
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I took it as you inteneded it sfury - a throwaway introductory line.

Freebird - I think you might get your A$$ kicked for sayin'something like that.

Sounds like somebody has a case of the Mondays Oz   ::)

So who will you cheer for mildly hope wins on Saturday? Your Catholic buddies over at USTd or the fine young men of the Bethel University Royals?   :)

All snark aside, here is my hope for this weekend: That the winner comes out uninjured and finely tuned for a clash against Mount.  One day, somewhere, this UWW-MUC death grip on the championship will be broken, and if it isn't the Johnnies, then I hope it's someone from the MIAC.  And if not there, then the West.

So, I actually don't care who wins, I just hope that the winner can play against MUC.

My prediction: The Tommies.  BU cannot win too much further when they give up on extra points.

My prediction the week after: MUC.  There isn't a snowball's chance of a Tommie victory in front of their 1,200 fans for a national semi-final.

I guess I "Jumped to Conclusion" on sfury intro too quickly  :)

Bethel shocked everybody and kicked a FG saturday. 2-6 on the year and the kicker, Nick Love, is 1-1. It was a spiral, knuckleball, sidewinder from about 36 yds but it split the uprights. I watched him go about 1-6 in pregame warmups so was shocked they let him kick one, but he made it and it was a huge kick. Made Wheaton go for a TD late instead of a FG to win it.

D O.C.

Just really trying to be part of the Kinder, Gentler WILDCAT NATION
BUT....I am really insulted by the fans at the University of Saint Thomas.

They did not rush the field at the end of the game.

I was shocked to see they did that as well. Especially since they went for two after their first touchdown.

Bird, it was a throwaway line, not any type of commentary on the: Reformation/Inquisition/Baptists/dancing/priest scandal/Mary/ascension/proper use of condoms or any other religious thing.
Ha! Yep, that about covers it  :D

Will Bethel implement the forward pass into it's offensive scheme for 12-4-10? Isn't that play illegal  ???
Will Bethel continue to go for 2 pt. conversion or perhaps have faith in the kicking game. We have great faith in our punter   ;D
Would Johnson be kicking himself if UST prevails by a score of 14-12 with two failed 2pt. conversions? Maybe, but he was kicking himself when St. Thomas prevailed 10 - 6 on a missed PAT and field goal earlier this year

Can UST stop Flannery? The kid is sniffing 5K yards for his career. Johnson just starts the "Road Graders" and they keep grading the road and eating the clock. Actually, I think the sniffing is all over, pretty sure he achieved it on Saturday against Wheaton. If UST does shut Flannery down, they'll definitely walk away with the victory...but that was probably the game plan for Wartburg and Wheaton as well.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Not to pummel a beaten horse, but another factor in the publicity is the work done (and not done) by the SID at the various schools. USJ is fortunate to have one of the finest, well-oiled PR machines handling its sports information the past 10+ years. UST's SID does a great job getting info to the media. Bethel is on its 3rd or 4th SID in the past 10 years. That means there is less of a good contact/relationship with the members of the local media. The game stories have been rather slow getting posted on the BU site this season and were rather skimpy at times, not giving the media anything to work with. This past weekend, the geographic logistics factored in too....common sense says it easier and far cheaper to send a writer aross the river than down to Chicago.

On the whole, the Strib does a horrible job covering the MIAC and D-II, but the P-Press makes that look like amazing coverage, as they rarely give more than the final scores, if that. Both papers used to have beat writers who gave the league the same in-depth coverage Frank does for the USJ/CSB.

As a Tommie, I think Id rather be playing Wheaton, simply because its always harder to beat  team for a 2nd time in a season. BUT I see a solid UST win on Saturday :)
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

And a hearfelt THANK YOU to all of you for your prayers and kind words. They mean a lot to me and my family.

Miacmaniac- I would also rather the tomes were playing Wheaton! Also, the bethel story on their site from the wheaten game left a lot to be desired. Poorly written and many wrong facts.

Congrats to UST on the win this past Saturday.  Just a hell of a defense and just a street brawl of a game where neither team could throw the knockout punch until the bitter end.  No offense but my last two trips to Minnesota has resulted in my heart being broken ('03 SJU and now) and it has ruined my impression of the land of 10,000 lakes.  ;) Best of luck moving forward and representing the West.
