Quote of the year candidate from the front page story on Bethel v. St. Thomas:

"The coaches, we're tight-knit in this league," Johnson said. "We want to beat the socks off of each other, and this is a rivalry. But it's a rivalry that's good, not a jackass rivalry."  ;D

Classic Coach J & well said. No doubt both sides can't wait to pound the other, but I think there's a lot of mutual respect.

Another Coach J quotable: "If you run around with horses, you might become a stallion...if you run around with donkeys, you'll probably be a jackass!"  8-)

Go Royals!

St. John's to install lights at Clemens Stadium.

Sorry if I offended anyone with this post  ::)

Interesting.  I would think that a night game played there would create a very good atmosphere....with the natural bowl being surrounded by darkness.

I read the article and saw that there are no near term plans for one, but it'd be nice to see them give it a shot.

and yes, I was very offended by your post.

The Hamline game at season end could have used lights.

"There are no plans to move any starting times for SJU football games, which have traditionally started at 1 p.m. Saturdays. (Late-season NCAA Division III playoff games have started at noon.)"

I'll believe them (for now). However, the temptation will always be there to host a night game from this day forward.
I'm not quite sure I am, or ever will be, completely on board for this decision.
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Awesome, I have always thought night football games would bring out more students to St. Thomas games... maybe SJU can use its football prowess to start a MIAC trend towards playing night games!

I think I read somewhere that the league has a policy against them, though? Is that true?

Augsburg has hosted night games, I believe the most recent being against Wartburg a couple of years ago.

PurpleReign,
At its most basic, and as a counter, SJU has enjoyed a three week head start in recruiting this year, right?

Slippery logic reserved for teams not continuing to get in practice time and media exposure ala playoffs (or bowl games for FBS teams).

The rest of the MIAC can go right ahead with night games to try to draw fans.
I'd rather the Johnnies stick with afternoon games.

As a player, I enjoyed the few experiences I had to play a night game in college.  It's nice to have that change once or twice a year.  I wouldn't want it to be an every week thing though.  Can't take away the weekends.  :)

It certainly couldn't bring out fewer!

(Thank you!  Thank you very much!  I'll be in the Cabana Lounge every night for the next three weeks.)

League policy wouldn't have any impact on how Augsburg chose to schedule its non-conference games.
