Congratulations Bethel.  Great victory.  Let's hope that the kicker gives up his yips during the week because this is definitely the last week you can afford not to have one.  Get charged for MUC and be ready to move that line around a bit.

Tough loss, UST.  Great season and MIAC championship.

It should be interesting.  Bethel running game against MU defense.  MU offense against Bethel defense.  Who wins this battle?  Good luck on the road Bethel.

Congrats Bethel--good game--looking forward to next week--thanks for saving us a trip to the great northwest--or maybe I should say the great north central--any way, we are glad to be home next week!!

See you in Alliance!!!

Wow!! Great game.

Congrats UST on a fine team and great playoff run. You did the MIAC proud, fun to dominate the West like that! Great career Tommie seniors. You guys turned the program around and were always fun to play against.

Bethel!!!!!!! Flannery...you earned the rushing record today my friend! O-Line, well you're the Bethel O-Line, that says it all. Penz...heal up buddy. #70, way to step up!

BU Defense. You made every D-alum proud today, just like you have all year. Gutsy performance. Wow. Outsized today, but definitely not outclassed! You guys are pure AGONA! So disciplined, so fast, so physical, so unflappable!

Go for it next week! The seniors have all been there. You know from last time that Skunks' comments above are probably how a lot of Alliance regards you. Who cares. Nothing to lose, make some memories and get the W so I can finally make a trip to Salem! AGONA!!!!

Great game today. Both of Bethel's scoring drives were 85+ yards, weren't they? Man, their D completely shut down the Tommies after that first series. Great job.

That said, no Waldvogel or Wartman. What happened to Waldvogel? Seemed to be running around on the sidelines, was it a concussion?

And where was Wartman? Tobin's better in my mind, but he looked less explosive late in the game. Fatigue play a factor?

My heart was with Bethel in this one, but I would have loved to see Mount Union actually have to travel in the playoffs for a change (when's the last road playoff game they've played?). Sadly, I don't think Bethel is diverse enough on offense to win. And defensively, I think Mount will move the ball on them - my Johnnies certainly did and we don't have a Cecil Shorts on our team.

GoldandBlue,

Swing and a miss.  I am really beginning to question the value of a Bethel education, no check that I do question the value of a Bethel education.

Lets do some analysis exalmost-

Other than TDT, you're literally the only SJU backer who has negative karma.  Your fellow fans don't even appreciate your commentary, so why don't you settle down a bit?

You obviously come off as a dou$her to everyone, so why not just keep to yourself a bit more?

From your point of view, there is a positive in the BU victory...SJU gets yet another week of recruiting advantage...lucky dogs!   ;)

The difference is that my K is the result of many years of dedicated posting.  And a badge of honor.  BTW: Willy Wonka and AO also have tremendous -K scores.  Well deserved of course.

RE: Bethel's kicker

I don't think the game will be close enough to make any difference next week in the vaunted confines of Alliance.  In fact, I don't think this game is within 30 points.

Hi Clark.  Merry Christmas pal!

1996 in a semi-final win vs. Wisconsin LaCrosse at Camp Randall.  Congrats to Bethel on the win today.  I enjoyed the broadcast with the PA announcer/carnival barker in the background.  :)

True, I did fail to mention your affection for -K.

I'd love to think that BU could keep it close, but wouldn't put my money there if I were the gambling type...however, anything can happen.  If their D shows up in a big way, it might be closer than expected.

@Pat, KMack, et. al:

You're first words on the final four have nice coverage on 3 teams and simply this about Bethel:

"Mount Union will stay home for the national semifinals because Bethel upended MIAC rival St. Thomas 12-7. The Royals got a 1-yard touchdown run from Logan Flannery and Justin Aakre capped a 95-yard drive for the second as Bethel again survived its utter lack of a kicking game."

Really  ??? Only 4 games to cover today, and that's all you've got, 2.5 sentences, one of which ends in total dig. Thanks fellas, no really, we appreciate it.  ::) :P You guys usually do a phenomenal job, but this is pretty bad....

Here' to hoping everyone will continue to overlook Bethel. It's worked well for us the last 3 weeks on the road.

Do be fair building a story on that game would be really difficult. No D3 rep on site and the stats have taken forever to be posted.

Once again great post. I always enjoy hearing your comments on the game. Bring on the mighty Mount! I have many more comments and will post tomorrow once I'm out of Williams.

For those who haven't seen it yet. Very nice story by the MIAC about Flannery and Wartman. http://www.miac-online.org/news/2010/12/3/FOOTBALL_1203102517.aspx

Sounds like Wartman was injured today and that's why he didn't play. Tough way to end your career, very tough. I will say, Tobin was hands down the more effective back against BU the first time around and I just assumed at the game that they knew he was the better match-up. Surprised to hear he was hurt.

For those who haven't seen it, UST has their recap up. http://www.tommiesports.com/ftbl/news/BU_12-4.html

I don't what 'drops' they were talking about. Actually can't think of a single one. There were numerous pass breakups on the day, but I don't know about any drops?

The last picture on the recap is DIII playoffs in a nutshell. One team in absolute jubilee as their season continues. Another player absolutely dejected as a football career comes to an end. Been on both sides. The former is pure ecstacy, the latter is one bitter pill to swallow. Great to have been fortunate enough to play college ball, but at this level, 99.9% of seniors never get to play competitively again. Heartbreaking. Always good to keep in perspective, that as much as we love seeing our teams win and defeating an opponent, this time of year, those losing squads are filled with Seniors who have poured their hearts into something they'll never do again. So emotional to take those pads off for the final time.

That said. Congrats to all the Tommie and MIAC seniors who make DIII/MIAC football such a great experience. You are classy, quality young men with great things in your future. Many lessons learned in the weight room, video study and on the field will serve you in life. To Bethel's seniors, soak it up, the ride is gonna end at some point in the next two weeks, enjoy every second you have left!

I can understand not having the info. But when you're only giving a big game 2 sentences, the dig seemed unnecessary. Hopefully they put up more info, but as it stands they've basically not covered it and shifted attention away from a great quarterfinal win and onto a weakness that this great team has been overcoming for 3 weeks, on the road, in a very tough West Region.
