Johnnie Red

Duffman, I just got a call back from my connection in New Ulm and he said the advance tickets for the Bock Fest are already sold out. :'( Looks like we will have to show up at the gate at Schell's Brewery at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning when the festival gets going. Hopefully that will be early enough. If you think we should be there earlier, please let me know.

As to Johnnie wrestling, the story in the Guillotine should be out today. Hope you enjoy it.

JJR, this will be my first time missing in the past 6 years.  I'm doing the Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge in Lake Calhoun that day, so I will be unable to attend.

#13 and some other SJU friends are doing the plunge as well.  Brrrrr.

Good to see the UST attendance numbers climb again in 2010. Will be interesting to see what they do in 2011 after finally hosting the Tommie/John  game again.

UST is laying good claim to the "no fun school" title for visitors on gameday.  Two years ago they eliminated tailgating in their parking lot; now they've eliminated the parking lot (hey, maybe they'll get wild and crazy in the new underground parking, under the student center).  One has to think that the City of St. Paul relied on their traditional low game attendance when they approved the plans to let them take out the parking to build the student center.  The neighbors must be crazy happy.

Well said tmerton. The tailgating policies are atrocious. As an alum, I have refused to donate any additional $$ until the tailgating ban is lifted. Not sure if it is from Karen Lange's office or if it comes from Fr. Dease, but either way the whole policy needs to be rewritten. I know there are members of the administration that feel the same way and are pushing for just that.

Not to mention the elimination of the ability of visiting fans to sit in the bleachers behind the visiting bench...

Did anyone catch this piece back in October from TommieMedia on tailgating before UST football games?

Amazingly, I have not had it yet, but I heard it is good stuff.  Thanks for the reminder, though.  I need some.

Yeah, when you put seating behind the visitor's bench but then make it seating for the home team only, well, something sure stinks.  The problem here seems to be that UST has so much money they really don't know what to do with it, and they end up doing silly stuff like this.  The cost per seat to put in that seating surely was exorbitant, and no way they would have done it had it been seating for the visiting team.  But VIP seating for UST big wigs will maybe help 'em bring in more $$.

Good find.  Was that filmed at a UST home football game?

SJU has its own silly policies on tailgating but wisely ignores them if folks act sensibly.  Overall it's a great atmosphere.

Since the story was posted on October 10, I'm assuming that B roll was shot either October 9 vs. Augsburg or September 25 vs. Concordia.
