Sanny on KQ's morning show podcast was saying the same as you, hazzbeen.  Sanny was pretty on target with Favre for the last two years so I hope his read of the new guy is as accurate.  Of course, he was akso saying that the Twins might have a team this year as well.  Let's hope that mistake is just because he's not as good with baseball.

And the bastard is dead.  Tom Burnett and his sacrifice is avenged.

And keeping it focused on D3 football (well, not really but sort of), a former Johnnie, Denis McDonough, is pictured in what will surely become an iconic photo. To Clinton's right.

Go Johnnies!  Disposing of the bad guys one at a time.

A question on that photo - why did they make the shortest person stand in the back?  That poor woman is probably walking around with a neck cramp today after trying to watch the screen.

She was making a delivery from Jimmie Johns.

Nothing about a NO-NO on this board  ???

Yes, very nice, but I fear it will be one of the few pleasant memories of this season.  And as great as a No-No is, this one was not a dominating performance.  Six walks and two strikeouts on 123 pitches, only 66 of which were strikes against the second worst team in baseball.  It is exciting, but it feels tarnished since I think it's likely this is about as good as it will get for us.

Frank Rajkowski has news on UST(d).  Barny will rejoice.

The Tommies have released this year's recruiting class.

Caruso describes it along the lines of the best recruiting class that has ever existed ever.  I'm sure he's right.

Mr. Ypsi

Oz, the AL Central standings look much more sensible if you turn them upside down! :D

I would say he is outworking and out-recruiting SJU.

"I'm a uniter...not a divider."

Do you know that as a fact, faunch, or is it more your suspicion?  I have no idea what players he is attracting compared to SJU since if a recruit wasn't a relative of some sort I wouldn't know a Minnesota high school football player if he walked up and rang the door bell.

We got out hustled on recruiting for two years in a row, apparently.  Is it now three?  For reals?

Recruiting stories are interesting and all. But at the D1 level they're often completely wrong, when you look back four years later. At D2 it's even tougher. And at D3...sorry, I'm not putting a ton of stock into recruiting stories (and that includes when there are stories bragging about St. John's players). In the spring of 1992, no one would have been jumping up and down to learn the Johnnies had a guy named Chris Palmer coming in. A short guy who'd been a backup guard on a GFW basketball team that kicked our ass in sections. He only won the Gagliardi trophy.

I'm sure St. Thomas had a great class. But it's like hearing NFL teams during the NFL draft. "We got the guy we wanted. We're so excited! Couldn't believe he was still available!" We'll see.

I do know that last year when they met we kept hearing about the Tommies' superiority when it came to talent and depth. Yet somehow those scrappy no-one-wanted-them-when-they-were-recruited-Johnnies played them completely even, other than a PAT. We'll see what happens. Fretting about it because of a press release seems like you're only giving yourself undue stress.

How could you not like an incoming class of young men who work tirelessly and always place the goodness of the team above individual success, and who embody and exude work ethic, leadership, selflessness, pride in the team and passion for our great sport?   Plus we know they'll kick our ass on a regular basis, as sfury points out. 8-)

Quote"In listening to the recruits, the on-the-field success, the MIAC championship, the wins over some rivals and the new facilities were some of the attractors for the guys, but the overwhelming consensus was the fact that they wanted to be a part of a tremendous group of young men who work tirelessly and always place the goodness of the team above individual success."
...

"On paper, the class speaks for itself, but what makes me truly excited about these young men, are their attributes that you can't see on paper -- work ethic, leadership, selflessness, pride in the team and passion for our great sport," Caruso said. "These have been and will continue to be prerequisites for us in our recruiting process, and I'm proud to say that these young men embody and exude those attributes."

Really, those quotes from Caruso were probably said at various times - perhaps verbatim - by Jim Wacker and Tim Brewster. Ya never know.

And I'm not sure if those guys will be great football players, but by that release they're definitely well on their way toward beatification.

And TMert would know better than anyone - when John came to SJU no one would have even known or blinked if not for his old man being on here. No one would have been touting him as the next great linebacker or saying it was proof SJU had outworked and outrecruited everyone in the MIAC. A few years later he was as good as it got in the league. There will be plenty of time to brag about the Tommies. No need to wave a white flag now.

I also believe Touchdown Tommy ghostwrote the release.
