Hey Gang-- been a while (a bit crazy working with the HS baseball team this spring) so I hope everything is well.

Found this story this morning and a bit surprised.  I think the Johnnie broadcast network has just been usurped in one big fell swoop, unfortunately.

WCCO Radio to broadcast St. Thomas football games

On one hand, the Johnnie gameday crew's quality beats Dave Lee giving play-by-play eight days out of the week.  But having the WCCO radio coverage across the state is downright fantastic for the Tommies.  Ugh.

Kind of demonstrates the sad state of affairs over at the old neighbor.  They are now carrying the T-Wolves and the Tommies.  I think Tommie football game attendance average might actually beat the T-wolves this year.

This will give UST more exposure...I do think this is another reason SJU needs to consider doing game webcasts to market the University and football experience to an audience around the world.  They already run live video in the concession stand and the luxury boxes at Clemens.  It wouldn't be too hard to send it over the web and dub in the Johnnie radio broadcast.  Additionally they could create video segments to run pre-game that would highlight the University experience and additionally the athletic programs.

(Either I'm onto to something or on something!)

You are onto something.

Please forward this thread to Tom Stock   8-)

You got my back  ;)

But faunch, who would show up to the games if you can watch them on the web?
[/sarcasm]

Seriously, SJU could and should use technology to enhance the at-home experience for those who can't make it to Collegeville on any given Saturday.  The reasoning for why they do not was what I said above-- which I find absolutely incorrect.  People show up to Collegeville for the true gameday experience-- Stiffyfest, seeing classmates and friends, and just being in the midst of greatness-- and no webcast will be able to convey those things.

So why not do it and try to rake a few bucks in from those who otherwise wouldn't give you any?  {sigh}

Truth is I would pay $5-10 bucks to watch on the web games that I can't make.  Additionally I would still attend the 2 or 3 home games that I always go to.

... and some of us too far away from 56321 would shell out for a Johnnie season pass --- or appreciate if as a perk for a donation.

Right, 57? I see you there!

Right on! 1250 miles is a long commute. Before I could listen to VOJ on my Mac the only thing I had was (maybe) the score in the Sunday Denver Compost  :P

Considering I get WCCO in Grand Forks this is pretty huge for UST. As far as whether or not enough people will listen for this contract to get renewed in 2013, I don't know. Read the story on the Trib and a lot of people in the comment section were drinking Haterade this morning.

"If this is going to interrupt the market prices for Hogs I'm climbing on the top rope" was my favorite comment thus far.

50,000 watts is pretty massive for a DIII program, and as far as the Red River Valley is concerned no one even really knows who SJU and UST are (outside of Concordia rubes). But who knows, maybe some kid doing beet harvest in Stephen-Argyle will have it on in his combine and decide to go to UST :-)

I do agree SJU needs to webcast games, I really think with the atmosphere there it wouldn't affect attendance at all, but it would satiate a lot of people's curiosity (read: me) better than updates on DIII.com can.

If SJU was smart, they'd shoot the webcast from the visitors' side to include more of "the atmosphere" .... but then any background audio from that side might be problematic.

That's a lot of wattage for 'CCO, we used to pull it in at the family fish shack on the Canadian side of Lake of the Woods. But every time I'm back in range, I'm amazed at the drop in quality and stature of the neighbor. Started going downhill when they dropped "Hobb's House" . . .

Anyone thing they panicked after losing U of M(ediocrity) sports?

1250 miles?  Bah.  Amateur hour.  ;)

I can buy a season pass to MLB.com for $20.  I would quickly pay the same for the Johnnies.

In golf news, the Johnnies remain in first place with a three shot lead after two rounds of the national championship.  GAC unfortunately missed the cut by one shot so they'll finish the tourney in 17th.

EDIT: correct that dollar amount.  The audio is $20 to MLB.com while the video is $120.  I have not purchased the video. Who wants to watch this season anyway? I would pay $50 for Johnnie football video.  Particularly if it was iPad compatible so I could lay warm in bed and watch instead of sitting in the family room on cold Sunday mornings.

An amazing stat from the golf ... five guys, two double bogeys today. I've achieved that by the fourth or fifth hole some days ...

Oh, you've got to be more exact.  That is not a redhorse, but there are a multitude of redhorse species, even.   ;D

For example:

Shorthead Redhorse (look at those Johnnie red fins!)

Mr. Ypsi

Duffman, you are making this unfairly difficult.  There are only two species of fish: good eatin' and not good eatin'! :D

(Though, I admit, there may be some gradations: delicious; very good; tasty but not worth the effort; etc., on down to 'maybe it is good fertilizer?'! ;))

Absolutely, you can fully expect to hear awful things from the visiting crowd during the first game of 2011 such as,
"I beg to differ with the referee on that play", or "these johnnie fans are much more respectful than those tommie fans we felt compelled to pray for after we played them in the basketball playoffs".
