congrats to Tim Miles and the johnnie track and field team on winning the miac championship today!

And, more importantly, the Tommies finished in 6th.  I could only find results back to 1998 so far, but this is the first time in that time frame they have finished worse than 2nd.

That would be second most important.

Not for everyone else in the MIAC.

I'm torn here... Johnnie Love vs Tommie Hate...

I'm a lover not  a hater, so I'll go with stanbob on this but just barely.

RIP Harmon.  :(

Bummer, I always liked him.  I had heard that he was discontinuing cancer treatments and entering a hospice recently.

I remember my first trip to The Met, as part of a Little League group outing, circa 1973 to watch Harmon play. RIP #3

Wow!!! Fritz calls it quits.  Gotta give him credit for going out on top.

According to the article, Schoenecker Arena cost $54M!  Let's see, that must put the whole Anderson Athletic complex at around $200M!!  :o  Just goes to show that whatever the Tommies have they have a lot of it.

Question - how do you think the UST complex compares to the new complex and bball arena at Mac?  I've only seen the latter from the outside.

Bummer.  If guys like Harmon don't get out of this alive, I don't think any of us will.

Macalester's complex kind of pales in comparison, but St. Thomas is also asking its building to do a little more. And that's not saying that Mac's building is bad -- it's very nice by D-III standards.

I think you pretty well nailed it tmert. It's a sad day in the Twins family.

I used to watch games with my dad when I was a kid, and he'd say "Harmon is due" meaning he hasn't hit a homer in awhile. In my mind's eye, he'd hit a homer pretty darn quick.

What a good life. I'm guessing alot of the MIACPP guys that are old enough have similar memories.

I don't share posts often, but Posnanski is one of my favorites and this is one of the best recollections about Harmon. RIP

Speaking of hamburgers, what would the fans of the Stiftungsfestivities tailgate parties at Johnnie games think about a gathering the weekend before the season opener in Collegeville (9/3/11 when we host Northwestern) when the 150th anniversary of the Stiftungsfest will be taking place in Norwood Young America? On Friday, August 26, Hairball will be playing at 9:00 p.m. Wonderful 80's rock band. Plenty of wonderful Stiftungsfest burgers available. They usually sell about 10,000 burgers over the weekend. Go to Stiftungsfest.org to check out the schedule. Let me know what you think. The Stiftungsfest is the oldest continuous celebration in Minnesota. Danke schoen. :D

Can I just say that Young America is about the best town name evr invented?  I always wanted to live there just because it pulls so sweetly at the patriotic heart strings everytime I think of the name.  I have to send a genuinely regretted no to the Stiftungfestivities.  I do wish I could attend.
