It's 9:40 pm Saturday 05/21/2011 and I'm still here. And as I look out the window .... so is the world.

Yeah, me, too.  Maybe we got lucky and only they only took Tommies this time around.
Nope, no such luck. Us Tommies got passed over by the Rapture with your Johnnies and everyone else....maybe next time?
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

You know who really wished this 5x10x17 days from the death of Christ end-of-the-world scenario was right?  Yoooouuuuurrrrrr MINNESOTA TWINS!!!!

If this were a horse race, the screen would be up and the gun shot would be echoing across the outer right about now.

But, Oz, think of poor Keystone, WNEC, and Buena Vista - they finally make the CWS for the first time, and the world ends before they get to Appleton?! :o ;D

Macho Man Randy Savage - he was the man. Who hasn't impersonated the "OH YEAH!"

PFFFFT.  Let me be the first to raise my hand. Sorry TH, Duff and others, but while I'll concede that Macho and the others may be, or have been, great athletes (it wasn't always so), I wouldn't watch "pro" wraslin' while doing my laundry. :P

I really don't like pro wrestling, either, but the Macho Man is an icon from my youth!

OzJohnnie, glad you like the name Young America. I should mention that in Carver County we have towns with the following names: New Germany, Cologne and Hamburg. Next door in Sibley County we have Green Isle, which is where my Irish ancestors settled.

Speaking of Macho Man Randy Savage, I am hoping to line up Buck Rock N Roll Zumhofe of professional wrestling fame to make an appearance at the Stiftungsfestivities this fall. Buck is originally from Hamburg and we were wrestling teammates in high school.

I was up in Northeast Mpls yesterday afternoon at Jax Cafe for a wedding reception. Thank goodness we did not get hit by the tornado. :o

Time to turn on the way back machine for a little reminiscin'...

I used to be a part time DJ, spinning actual discs at that, on Grand Rapids' own 1320 KOZY, home of the Vikings, Twins, North Stars, Gophers' Hockey and the Grand Rapids Indians high school football and hockey teams.  When you hear your favorite oldies, you know you're listening to 1320 Kozy.

Anyways, I bring this up because I spent many a Saturday night and Sunday afternoon listening to the Twins playing .500 ball in their first season ('84) under Pollad ownership.  I listened to a lot of losses, but fear a return to '82 this year.  I reckon they are going to drop a hundred games.  Dang.

EDIT: Jeez, many things change but many things remain the same.  The woman in this picture is sitting in front of the exact same control board that I sat in front of those many years ago (although I doubt they use it anymore).  There were two turn tables to her right that are gone (I guess all the music is now digital) and I used to stack tape decks (looked a bit like 8-tracks) of the hour's commercials on the ledge where the monitor is now.  There was a deck player for the commercials tucked to the right of the control panel and that too is gone (probably digital commercials as well).  Still the same?  The blue carpeting on the counter.  Nice.

You know, I bet that computer does all the work now days.  Back in my day we had a run sheet that provided the music variations (fast song, slow, rock, easy listening, etc) and a series of shoe boxes that contained index cards with songs that matched the run sheet category.  You would take the first card from the front of the correct box that matched the time limits you had to whatever break was needed.  Song variety was achieved by rotating played songs to the back of their respective shoe boxes.  (Hint: You need a longish bathroom break?  Time to rotate in American Pie or Marvin Gaye's Heard it Through the Grapevine.)

My best moment?  Playing Dion and the Belmonts Runaround Sue when my girlfriend at the time, Sue ******, broke up with me over the phone while I was at work to date Kevin *******.  She called me just after I put on a tune to make sure she had time to pass on the news.  We didn't, as a rule, do dedications, but I thought the occasion called for a policy exception.

Oz, the way they've been playing this year, the shot would miss.....how do you blow so many games in so so many ways? I mean, this is beyond reeeediculous

I was doing some research on MIAC football and came across the St John VS St Thomas game, and it just looked like an awesome atmosphere. I brought this up over on the MIAA board and asked if anyone had been to anything similar at the D3 level.

No one could relate to that large a crowd but we all agreed that it would be sweet to be apart of something like that. So, my question is, how sweet was that game atmosphere to those of you who were there in person? How was the tailgating, hype, ect?

Go Trine!!!
The atmosphere is great. SJU football has hosted many games with crowds over 10k.
The student section with the Rat Pak is fun for us old guys to observe.
Tailgating is always great with the Stiftungfestivities.

You should take a road trip to Collegeville some time. 8-)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

It's on my list!   :)

Oh...and I don't want to hear you Twins fans whining!  You have actual World Series Championships.  As an Indians fan, I have had two World Series appearances in my lifetime to "cherish",  but neither ended well.  I have to admit it's been fun this year so far.  48 million dollar payroll, and they are playing like they believe.  Here's hoping there is no "June swoon".

As a Cubs fan, my father hasn't even had the chance to "cherish" one World Series appearance. The way things are going now, I'm not sure he ever will.

As much as I hate the White Sox, I hope your Indians can keep pilling up the wins.

An old guy (not in the best of shape) was working out in the gym, when he spotted a sweet young thing.

He asked his male trainer, "What machine in here should I use to impress that sweet thing over there?"

The trainer looked him up and down and replied, "I would try the ATM in the lobby."
