Fresh walleye would be welcome, but I prefer eating it within a few hours after being caught so that's not likely.  Veek and Fins would be most welcome.  Who's "TC"?

As for being "away on important business the past few months," I presume we're talking about a 90 day sentence with some highway cleanup detail duty yet to be done.  That will at least give you time to compose new paens to the Tommies for 2011.

Can't figure out why you didn't give your MIAC picks.  We know it starts with USTD and Bethel, so you can just give us 3 through 8.

In other breaking news following a long evening of cold beers on St. Anthony Main last week it was decided that the new editor-in-chief of JohnnieFootball.com will be none other than Mr. Johnnie Tats.  Please welcome Tats & share all comments/questions/complaints with him.

Congratulations, Tats.  We look forward to your editorial influence.  It can only make things better... :o

i wish I could come up with something clever to say about this, but the Tommie in me kinda likes it:

That settles it.  Boise State no longer has the ugliest field in college football.

Hello?!?!?! Anyone out there?!?!?!? Hello?!?!?!

...crickets...

Ok well the President of the CAC has been away on important business the past few months.  I've only read back to mid-April, so I hope everyone was well behaved in my absence.

Looks like the Tommies have all the key cogs coming in to win it all in 2011.  I mean have ya'll ever seen such a brilliantly composed press release(cough: yes of course I wrote it Shawn!!).

Clark I'm coming to the Bay Area in 2.5 weeks.  Let's do lunch!!!

Veeeeeeeek where are you?  Get outta the free sampling lines at Costco.  The "Club" is waiting for you!!!

Congratulations, Tats.  We look forward to your editorial influence.  It can only make things better

I think the decision was made in this manner. Everyone else took one step back and I was concentrating on my beer at the gathering, and  I did not notice. A case of the last man standing! In all seriousness, we are hoping that the site and the the postings are enjoyable to all in the Johnnie Nation and all others who follow D3 Ball. As many of you know (from my postings on the site) I am not the word smith like Dusty SJU, TDT or Tmerton. I simply like to post from the heart and from my love of all that is SJU,much like others on this Board who proudly support their Alma Maters! Here's to a GREAT D3 football season and the 10 year anniversary of the Sfestvities at Collegeville!
See everyone at Collegeville on 9/3 for kick-off 2011
Once a Johnnie...Always a Johnnie....

Signs that everything is going to Hell and the Apocalypse is imminent...

"Plague of ravenous mice eat farmer John Gregory's pigs"

"We went away in the school holidays and when we came back we drove up the driveway and it looked like the ground was moving - there were hundreds of thousands of them." ...

"But now I [put engine] oil [on the pigs] every week, because the mice have run out of food and they're just eating anything, so they were climbing up on the pigs and chewing them," he said.

And even worse than swarming, carnivorous mice...

"Cultural change is killing our beer"

BEER drinking, the pastime that helped define our nation's culture, has hit its lowest level in 62 years...

The average beer drinker now consumes just a six-pack a week.  Not since the first Holden rolled off the production line in 1948 have Aussies drunk less beer...

The average lover of booze now guzzles just two litres of the brew - or about a six-pack - each week.  It pales in comparison to a spike in the mid-70s when we happily consumed 3.7 litres - or about 11 stubbies each.

And with that bit of depressing news, I go back to my slumber awaiting the melting of the snows on about Sept 1.

They'd never do this in Minnesota or Australia, right, Oz?

Look, I shouldn't encourage this sort of behavior and God know's I hate to give complements to Kiwis (the kids were probably expats, come to think of it), but the brilliance of this prank is remarkable.  It deployed over a number of weeks, was captured for all time on Google AND the perps have kept their guilt concealed for two years.  Legendary status hooliganism in my estimation.  Congratulations, Kiwis.  Now back to your sheep.

some MIAC talk tonight on the Sports Show went something like this:

Reusse: "Thanks to their new $60Million building, the Tommies have the best recruiting class in the history of the MIAC"
Sid: "St. Johns used to be the best"
Max: "Bethel has been the best team from the MIAC over the last 10 years."

And ... ?  Was there more to that conversation or is that as far as your memory goes?

Let's see, over the past 10 years would seem to include 2003.  I don't know who Max is as I don't get MSP media out here, but he's clearly a dope.  And no disrespect to Bethel in saying that, but how many of the past 10 years have they finished above the Johnnies?

As Bud Wilkinson used to say, so long as it's news when you lose rather than when you win, you're doing okay.

sfury

Mike Max is the local CBS affiliate sports guy, longtime radio host too. He's a really good dude, and a big proponent of high school and small-college sports. He's actually a Hamline grad, played hoops and baseball.

That said, he does seem to have a soft spot in his heart for Bethel and/or other teams that challenge the Johnnies (yes, it's the SJU paranoia bug afflicting me).

As for Reusse, I'm his biggest fan, for his writing but also his Fulda roots (hello slayton folks). But again with the Tommies' recruiting class...sorry, in D3, it's ridiculous to make recruiting proclamations before the season, even more ridiculous than it is at other levels. Let's check in three years. The old example: No one cared when Chris Palmer went to St. John's in the fall of 1992. He was a small guy. A nobody. Who ended up winning the Gagliardi.

But Reusse's been pumping SJU football for 40-plus years so I can't really complain about giving a little praise to the Tommies.

And officially, over the last ten seasons:
Bethel: 79-32
SJU: 101-20

Head to head: SJU 6 to 4.
combined scores: 227-151

Bethel has won four of the last five. But best team over last 10 seasons? That's Hamline math.

Sfury, don't forget that Mr. Max is a native of beautiful Gaylord, the county seat of Sibley County. Mr. Reusse wrote an article about me back in the fall of 1970 when I was a one man cross-country team from Norwood Young America and went to Glencoe every day after school to train with their team and go to all their meets. Those were the days!! ::)

Nice! Yeah he was a Gaylord guy. Personally I don't have any soft feelings for Gaylord - I was pulled over several times for speeding outside of town during college while making the drive back from Janesville to Collegeville.

Reusse must have been pretty fresh-faced when he wrote about you.

My favorite Reusse story, from my dad:
Ninth-grade football at Fulda. They had a drill-sergeant for a coach, real jerk. He'd lectured them about arm-tackling. Few minutes later, Reusse arm-tackles during a drill and breaks his arm. As he's on the ground rolling around in pain the coach picks the ball up, throws it at him and yells, "Reusse, you stupid SOB, that's what you get for arm tackling!"

I'm sure Gagliardi's done that to guys over the years, too.
