Well, it was an epic clash this weekend when the Hawks and the Geelong Cats took to the field for a second regular season tilt.  A hard, brutal game where each team brought their best to the pitch for the entire fourth quarter.  There were big momentum swings as one team would get the run up over the other.  Unfortunately, the Hawks fell to the Cats for the sixth straight game since the '08 Grand Final.  This time by five points, 88 - 83.  Despite the emotionally draining loss, for the first time I feel like the Hawks have the game this year to take it to Geelong and Collingwood in the finals.

If anyone from these boards ends up wandering down this way during footy season, this is exactly the type of game I hope to take you to.  What a classic.

some MIAC talk tonight on the Sports Show went something like this:

Reusse: "Thanks to their new $60Million building, the Tommies have the best recruiting class in the history of the MIAC"
Sid: "St. Johns used to be the best"
Max: "Bethel has been the best team from the MIAC over the last 10 years."

I think Mr. Ruesse was maybe having a little "fun" at the Tommies expense.

Good point.  That same line could have come from any Johnnie, sans usTDT, and we would have recognized the sarcasm immediately.  I loved Ruesse when he wrote for the Pioneer Press, hated him when he left for the Trib sports page, but maybe can love him again with his witty *sarc* and Tommie bludgeoning.  After 20 years, I may forgive.

Maybe my sarcasm detector was broken, but it seemed like Reusse was being genuine.  Besides, I thought it was accepted that the Tommies had the best recruiting class.  The banter on here was whether or not they got their recruits because of the fancy locker rooms or not.  Also, everything is going to be a little over the top when it comes to D3 topics as Reusse and Max have to spend a little time justifying their inclusion alongside the usual vikings/twins banter.

Oz's detector was broken a long time ago and now just points to sheep in NZ.  I suspect sarcasm is beyond long-time MN sports writers.  More likely that Ruesse has been going on benders with USTDT and has been consuming Tommie kool-aid.

Best if you know the NZ accent, but if I'm going to be labeled a broken detector Kiwi-hater, then I may as well go in full speed...

An Aussie visits the land of the Long White Cloud and sees a Kiwi farmer walking a very shaggy looking sheep down a country road.  "Oi, mate!" yells the Aussie.  "Are you going to shear that sheep?"  The Kiwi yells back, "$%&$ uff, mate, git yer own!  I ain't shearing this sheep with anyone."

Heard Mike Evans on KQRS this morning mention that People magazine wants to pay Kim Kardashian one million dollars for pictures from the upcoming wedding with Kris Humphries. Now if I could do the wedding ceremony! ;)

Congratulations to VOJ and yea! for the rest of us.  SJU has extended the current broadcast deal for eight more years.  Now let's just hope there is a little nugget of gold in there where we find that they will be able to broadcast video with the radio audio.

As a side thought..  Are there any lawyers in here? (Ha!). I'm wondering if the radio station may have some sort of license restrictions where they are not allowed to simulcast their broadcast with a video feed, even over the Internet.  Anyone familiar with FCC type regulations?

Not an issue.

wasn't it explained somewhere that the big wigs at SJU don't webcast because they believe it will lower attendance?

Here's the quote from VOJ explaining that St. John's could webcast if it wanted.

With St. Johns' endowment & wealthy alumni you would think they could add webcast. ::) ;) If it wasn't for work, the drive & the cold, I would consider making the trek up to C-ville. This is easily the game of the night.
Perhaps WBHR owns the right to broadcast, and thus a student run video webcast wouldn't be allowed?

We have no control over the potential "webcast" of an SJU sporting event...to be honest I have never asked about a webcast and why SJU does not provide one.

St. John's will not allow a video broadcast from its home football games, even an independent one.

You can't scout what you can't see  ;)
I've heard John still sends out 'film' from the 1954 season  :D

At this point I think teams get the film they want.  Also, at least half of SJU's games are web-cast anyway.  I think SJU is missing out on a great marketing opportunity.

I'll just throw the jinx out there.  Someone has to do it.

The Twins are certainly turning their performance around.

(You may blame me for the inevitable return to early season form.  Alternately, you may praise me if the good results continue, being that I said what was feared to be said and killed the voodoo hoodoo.)
